Hi, fellow forumers! Wouldn't it be fun to have status messages? I made a picture of what I mean here, on ibisPaint x:



Above the bar where your status message is, you have a ( Last Updated: ) section, where you can see when you last changed your status, and an Edit button, which, when you click, gives a pop-up that looks like this:



Anyways, the cooldown for updating it, I think would be 24 hours. The default message would be “Hi! I'm {userName} and I use Scratch!”. It would have the filter like everything on the site has.

Pros:

• Can let scratchers know what's on your mind

• Acts like a siggy on your profile

• Gives a chance to show off your speech writing skills.

Cons:

• Scratchers may post random things.

So, what do you think? Support or no support?

What's the difference between a status message and just putting that phrase in your About Me or What I'm Working On?

Since (I may be wrong) it will then attract more attention that if it was in the “AM” or “WIWO” section. And that is because it's more visible.

So, like an official version of my-ocular and Aviate? I'm kinda on the fence. Again, you could probably just use the aforementioned tools, but they don't appear on the actual Scratch website without browser extensions.

Yes. An official version of (snipped). It would also be friendlier for mobile devices, and people who don't want to install any extension.

This sounds like a cute idea! :00
Although the profile pages are kind of cluttered and this would only make it more cluttered.. But since the ST has to update them to 3.0, they'll hopefully learn from the studio update and fix that anyway.

Another question: would the statuses only be displayed on their profile or would it be displayed in other places, like the forums?

In my eyes, that kinda makes this whole idea kinda useless. You could already put a status update in your bio fields, so why add an additional field? In the ocular integration for a certain browser extension, you can set it to show on the forums and profiles as well. Heck, there's even a public API for ocular that allows fetching of the status so it can be displayed on other services.
