Part 1 - Character consistency
Constance from the Mysterious Benedict Society
Name: Constance Contraire
Pronouns: she/her
Species: human
Strengths: determined, creative, strong, assertive, intelligent
Weaknesses: stubborn, pessimistic, grumpy, snappish, annoying
General view of life: grumpy/narrow-minded/ later develops into a calmer, more mature outlook
Relationships:
Nicholas Benedict - adopted father
Rhonda Kazembe - adopted sister
Number Two - adopted sister
Member of the Mysterious Benedict Society with Reynie Muldoon, Sticky Washington, and Kate Weatherall
Tendencies:
When faced with difficult situations, Constance tends to lash out at the people around her. She’s stubborn, and refuses to give in to what other people say and loses her temper often. She’s also a Professional Annoyer of Bad Guys™
Oh, and she’s a telepath.
Scenario:
I chose the scenario- your character thinks their friends have forgotten their birthday.
Takes place in between the second and third books.
I abused the semicolon in this part.
Constance Contraire despised waiting. And she despised being ignored. This particular day felt like a combination of them both, like the world was specifically conspiring to annoy her.Part 2 - Character voices
That wasn’t fair. It was supposed to be the other way around.
“Vengeance…” she muttered, pacing across her tidy room. Tidiness meant that everything was hiding in neat piles, which annoyed her. “What rhymes with vengeance?”
Constance was annoyed at the lack of rhymes. She was annoyed at Kate for tidying her room. She was annoyed with her and Reynie and Sticky for forgetting how important today was. She was annoyed at basically everything.
“Flagrance, fragrance, nuance,” Constance shook her head, none of them sounding quite right, “maybe… dependence? Oh! Repentance, that’s it!” Feeling much better, she finished mentally sketching out her poem. Clearing her throat, she began;
“You will see my wrath and vengeance,
You will bow down in repentance.”
Hmm… not her best, but it would do for now.
A sharp knock cracked at the door.
“Constance, can you come downstairs for a minute?” Reynie’s disembodied voice asked.
“Oh, now you want me, I see!” she snapped, “Well, you’ll be deprived of my company.”
“Come on Connie girl, just for a minute,” Great. Now there was Kate’s disembodied voice as well.
“In being friends, you have no interest. So why not just let me rest?” On the plus side, Constance had finally destroyed her writer block. On the minus side, all three of them were clearly outside the door.
Constance took a deep breath, and spouted off;
“Reynie, Sticky and Kate,
I, Constance, have come to hate,
Your behavior as of late,
So punishments I will debate.”
A silence from the other side of the door.
“What is that supposed to mean-” Ah, there was Sticky’s voice, as expected.
“If my poetry is too complicated, I will make it facilitated- LEAVE ME ALONE!!”
Another silence.
“Constance… are you mad at us?” asked Kate, queen of stating the obvious.
“What do you think?” Constance snapped, too annoyed to think of a witty poem.
“Yeah, she’s mad at us,” said Sticky, king of stating the obvious. Constance didn’t bother to reply.
“Constance, Mr. Benedict wants to see you.” that was Reynie again, and it took her by surprise. If Mr. Benedict wanted to see her, he would have come upstairs. Besides, Mr. Benedict was on the list of people Constance was annoyed at. But then again, Constance’s instincts were telling her that Reynie was telling the truth, and her instincts were usually right.
“Is it serious?” she asked.
“Deadly serious,” came Kate’s reply.
“And incredibly urgent,” Sticky added.
“Fine, I’ll come.” She opened the door just a crack and stormed out without looking at their faces.
Constance felt a heatwave of rage and annoyance as they followed her. What was the point of this? Clearly, they didn’t care enough to spare her a single remark, why was she being brought into deadly serious and incredibly urgent situations?
And how could they forget how important today was?
Constance stormed through the door to Mr. Benedict’s office. She had approximately five seconds to notice the cake on the table, the balloons on the walls and the pile of presents before the all yelled,
“SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”
I chose Tam and Linh Song from Keeper of the Lost Cities, because they deserve a backstory.
Linh is sweet and soft-spoken. Instead of shyness, or silence, she turns formal around people she doesn’t really know too well. She’s a genuinely sweet person, who cares about what other people feel and think, but has a passive-aggressive, determined streak.
She’s less straightforward than her twin, so I guess her point of view would be filled with flowery metaphors and descriptive language. And probably present tense as well, though I’m not sure why.
Also, she tends to say cryptic things about water a lot.
Linh isn’t exactly a rule-follower, but she isn’t a rebel either. I get the feeling that she would prefer to stay out of trouble, but goes with the flow when it finds her.
Tam refuses to follow any rules he disagrees with, or thinks are stupid. He sticks to his principles, and follows his instincts even when it makes the situation obviously worse for him. He has severe trust issues, refusing to believe someone until he has read their shadow-vapor, and still only slightly. He’s sort of on the edge between caution and paranoia.
Tam speaks his mind no matter what, so I think his point of view would have simple, short sentences, telling things as they are.
His first instinct is to protect Linh, then himself. Which often leads to sticky situations. That and his rebelling can make Tam almost self destructive.
Linh’s perspective-
The whirlpool swings me in its embrace, spinning me into the deep, dark, tantalizing depths as I forget. I forget the world around me, and why I’m here and who I am as I am swept into the water.
Come, it whispers, come, release, let go, drift.
The tide is rushing in my ears as the call fills my mind, blocking everything else out.
“Linh?” my brother- my twin’s voice slices through the sound. I blink as everything comes into focus and see the silvery-blue lights of Atlantis.
“I’m okay,” I shake my head, trying to shut it out. But I can’t ignore the relentless call pressing down on the dome above.
“Please keep yourself under control, for once,” my father says, his voice muffled through the noise.
“She shouldn’t be here.” Tam mumbles, and I know he means this in a good way, but it still stings.
“My control isn’t that bad,” I point out. Shut out the call Linh, focus.
“If you say so, Girl of Many Floods,” he smirks. I roll my eyes. The nickname has been going around lately, I would be offended if it wasn’t accurate.
“Is it this way?” my mother asks.
They start ahead of us, holding hands and smiling those tender, loving smiles. I swallow, trying to quench the thirst at the back of my throat and take a hesitant step forward.
The world tips sideways as I fall into the water and everything is up and down and sideways and an empty, beautiful blue void that could kill me wants me to-
Tam grabs my hand before I hit the ground.
“Focus,” I jump when I realize his voice slipped directly into my mind. Shadow-whispering is something Tam’s been trying to teach himself, given that he’s too impatient to wait until we start attending Foxfire next month.
“- stay in control. You’ve got this.”
“I’ve got this,” I repeat, “I’ve got this,”
I take one step forward.
Then another.
Then another.
I focus on the rhythm of my feet and try not to think about the vast swirling infinity above my head that’s just begging to be released.
Tam’s perspective-
For the record, I warned them.
I told them no, she couldn’t handle it. Just wait until she gets proper training. But nope, they couldn’t wait another day for their romantic evening. They didn’t trust us enough to leave us in the house, ever since Linh destroyed the bathroom.
So they brought a fledgling Hydrokinetic to the middle of the ocean. Great idea. Super fun, if you like your average apocalypse.
The first sign was when she couldn’t hear me.
“Linh?” I had to say her name three times for her to hear it.
“I’m okay,” she said, her eyes slowly focusing on mine.
“Please keep yourself under control, for once,” I scowled at my father, but he was already turning away, pretending we didn’t exist. That was the newest punishment. One of our favorites. I had actually lost track of what we were being punished for. Refusing to pretend we weren’t twins? Causing a disaster? Existing?
Well I hated it. And I hated the way they were treating Linh.
“She shouldn’t be here-” I started.
“My control isn’t that bad,” Linh muttered dreamily.
“If you say so, Girl of Many Floods,” I tried to use the nickname to snap her back to attention, to remind her that she needed to focus. She smiled. And so I did too, even though it made my cheek muscles hurt.
“Is it this way?” my mother asked. The two of them started ahead of us, not caring that their daughter was carrying an impossible burden.
Linh shivered, and took a step after them. I don’t know why she bothered, since it was clear that they didn’t want us there.
A moment later, life vanished from her eyes, and she toppled forward.
“Whoa!” I tried to keep my twin from smacking into the ground, “Linh? Linh can you hear me?”
I felt panic begin to edge around the world, “Linh!”
I took a deep breath. Slowly, I slipped my shadow into her brain, it was the only thing I could think of.
Come on Linh, focus, stay calm, come back.
She fluttered back to life.
“Stay away from the water, Linh. Stay in control. You’ve got this.”
“I’ve got this,” she gasped.
Slowly, I helped her forward.
Linh’s perspective-
I’m not sure how it happens.
One minute, I’m standing there, holding on to Tam, one step after the other.
Then everyone is watching, staring, thousands of eyes.
The silence makes it easier to hear the water’s call.
Free. You can be free.
Just give in.
I want to, I want to so badly it hurts. But I can't. I have to hold on.
Then my father says one word. Or more than one, but I only hear one.
“Separate.”
And suddenly, Tam is gone, and I am untethered, unanchored, a floating island in the vast great abyss. And the pull is so strong, so unbelievably strong.
I look up to the dome and I stretch out my hands, reaching for the water. I want it, I need it. And it comes, pouring in, cracking the fragile forcefield like ice, spilling into my hands, over my head, enveloping me in its warm, deep embrace.
Somewhere deep inside me, I know I’ve lost control.
Tam’s perspective-
Five steps
That’s how far we got.
Then the crowd came. Staring at us, muttering things about the Song siblings, about the Song twins.
I didn’t care. Linh didn’t notice.
My parents, on the other hand…
“People are looking,” my mother said through gritted teeth.
My father looked desperately from me to Linh.
“You two, separate.” he ordered, pulling us apart.
“Wait-”
Linh gasped.
She was standing, swaying on her feet, her head tilted so far back it looked like it would snap off her neck.
The look on her eyes was what scared me the most. Dreamy, unfocused, lost.
“Don’t-” my father ordered.
Slowly, Linh raised her hands up to the sea. The water pounded painfully hard against the dome, then it burst.
I yelped as an icy torrent rained down.
“Linh!” I screamed, “Stop it!”
I could vaguely see my father leading my mother away.
“LINH!”
People were screaming and running as the gap in the forcefield widened. I had no idea how powerful my sister was until I watched her shred Atlantis’s defenses like paper.
I scrambled, struggling towards my twin. The water was up to my ankles.
I realized that she couldn’t hear me.
Shadow whispering. If it worked once it can work again.
I stretched out my consciousness towards her, putting every fiber in-
Snap out of it!
Linh falters, and for one second she meets my eyes.
Please Linh, come back.
Linh’s perspective
I am the water, I feel the pull in every pore, twisting me into an unrecognizable, powerful thing that is no elf. Something beyond.
I think maybe I have to stop. Maybe I’m destroying something, or messing up, as usual.
But I am the ocean, and the ocean listens to no one.

Aaaaand, it ends abruptly just because

Part 3 - Fanfic tropes
Hunger Games
AU / role swap / angst fic
I hold my breath as I watch Effie Trinket strut over to the bowl. Her long, clawed nails shuffle around the papers, hooking around one.
Not Katniss, not Katniss, please not Katniss.
I can’t lose her. She kept me alive when no one else cared. She stayed strong when the world crumbled. I can’t see her in the Games, I can’t.
But there are so many slips with her name on it. She should never have entered her name for Tesserae, we would have survived with the woods.
The odds aren’t in my sister’s favor and it paralyses me.
Not Katniss, please no.
And Effie unfolds the paper as she struts to the microphone. Leaning close and beaming at the camera, she says one name.
And it’s not Katniss’s.
It’s mine.
Disbelief. That’s the first thing I feel.
I was worried for Katniss, but I never believed it would be me. Or maybe I did, deep down and that’s why I can move now.
We’ve spent our lives watching child after child being reaped, leaving for the Games and never coming back. Of course I took the time to imagine what it would be like if it was me.
But Katniss didn’t let me take any Tesserae. I only had one slip.
My feet move without me telling them to. One shaky step after the other until I’m climbing the steps to the stage.
A lifetime of watching the Hunger Games tells me that I’m on every television on Panem. I see myself on the nearest screen, a pale, frail, ghostly little girl and I see myself as the other tributes would see me. A weakling to pick off in the first five minutes.
Don’t cry, I tell myself, but a wetness is creeping out of my eyes.
I’m not coming home.
I clutch the hem of my shirt to keep my hands from shaking and find it loose around my waist.
Tuck your tail in, little duck. Katniss said that to me before the reaping.
I shove it into the waistband of my skirt and hear her scream.
“Prim!”
Katniss sprints towards the stage, the crowd parting for her, yelling my name.
And suddenly, I know what she’s going to do.
Maybe it’s all the Reapings I’ve watched, years in District Twelve, or just a lifetime of being Katniss’s little sister, but I know that she’s going to volunteer.
“I volu-”
“DON’T!” I scream, louder than I’ve ever said anything in my life.
I see her falter. There are two parts of her that are warring with each other, the part that wants to protect me and her survival instinct.
“Please Katniss,” I give her my most confident smile, “I’ll be fine.”
She knows I won’t be, but the survival instinct wins.
I make it onto the stage, and the world turns to water.
“Excellent!” Effie Trinket chirps, holding my hand triumphantly in the air, “Primrose Everdeen, the reaping winner! And possible winner of the Games themselves, unless we have a volunteer?”
Katniss stays silent, although I know it’s killing her.
Effie calls the male tribute, an unfamiliar name, but for some reason I remember the smell of warm bread and a dripping wet Katniss coming home during the days when everything was blurry.
And then we’re being whisked away.
Katniss and my mother are my first visitors.
“I should have volunteered,” is the first thing my sister says to me, after pulling me into a hug.
“No,” more tears drip down my cheeks, “No, I’m glad you didn’t.”
My mother is silent, shell shocked, barely there. Just like during the months after my father died.
“Prim, listen to me.” Katniss kneels down, so we look at each other eye-to-eye, “You have a chance.”
“No I don’t,” the tears are coming quickly now., “I can’t.”
“Yes, you do. Remember Johanna Mason?”
I shiver. A few years ago, the female tribute from District Seven did an awfully convincing job of appearing weak, and going ignored. Then she got her hands on a knife and-
“I can’t do that, Katniss.” I bury my head in her shoulder, tears soaking into her shirt.
“You don’t have to, just run.” her voice catches, “Run as far away from the other as you can get, and hide. Don’t draw attention to yourself, and they won’t find you. Wait until the Careers finish each other of, and then-”
“And then what?” I demand, feeling heat in my cheeks. I can’t fight, and she knows that.
“And then you-” she swallows, but there is a hard cold look in her eyes. I’ve always believed Katniss had enough strength to rip the world apart, but here we are and neither of us can fight the system, “You do whatever it takes to come home.”
I gulp.
The Peacekeepers come through the door, time’s up.
“Prim!” Katniss yells, desperate, “Promise me you’ll come home!”
And then they’re gone. And I’m alone in a cold, hard room that's basically a cell.
“I promise,” I whisper to myself.
Part 4 - SWC fanfic
Disclaimer: We don't actually have a secret plan to rocket up to the top… or do we? B)
Campers around me stared at the leaderboard. I stood on the edge of my tiptoes, but I was still too short to see above their heads.
Instead, I turned to their expressions. There was an extraordinary range, from ecstatic to utterly dismayed. A Sci-fi camper groaned in frustration, while a Myth camper cheered. There was a surprising amount of disbelief from random campers, and quite a few strange glances in my direction.
Finally a path cleared enough for me to see the standings.
Instinctively, I looked at the lower part of the leaderboard. No Fairy Tales in sight. Then up, further, still further. It was so high, people of my height were practically being discriminated against.
There. On the very top.
Fairy Tales.
First place.
It took me a minute to figure it out, but it finally hit me.
“We did it!” I yelled, bouncing up and down, “Fairy Tales is the best- and don’t you forget it.” I high-fived one of our allies and hugged a fellow Fairy-Tales camper.
“The plan worked!”
Five days ago…
All three factions of Fairy Tales were standing in the Gathering. Even though it was only my first day, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this was unusual.
“All right guys, you all know why we’re here,” Vi said, climbing up onto the podium.
“Not really,” I muttered. I was in a bit of a mood, since we’d been stuck close to the bottom of the leaderboard since I got here.
“Okay, I think we can all agree that we’re the best cabin there is?”
A halfhearted cheer. The leaderboard just proved us wrong, after all.
“I know. It doesn’t look like we’re going to win. But just hear me out okay? Now this could work two ways - I could give you a speech about how winning isn’t everything and having fun is what really matters. Or we could, ya know, win.”
Despite my bad mood, I grinned.
“Let’s win!” Zia called.
“Glad we got that settled,” Vi smiled.
“Question!” I called, waving my hand around, “Uh, how exactly do we win?”
“About that,” I see our leaders exchange secretive smiles, “We have a plan.”
Fairy Tales was a famously underestimated cabin. No one really took princesses and bedtime stories seriously. No one really thought about the darker, evil twist to some tales, and how fairy tales were the most ancient, and the most dangerous kind of story.
Long story short, no one expected the Fairy-Tales cabin to come anywhere near the leaderboard. We could either protest at this… or use it to our advantage.
And that’s exactly what we did.
No one really paid attention to our cabin, which meant no one really noticed when we all simultaneously worked on the weekly. We went through the necessary lengths to appear disorganized, and inactive.
Then we struck. All the weeklies at once, pouring in, propelling us to the top.
Fairy Tales for the win.

“Adora! What does this say?”
Glimmer’s bright voice echoed through the library. Adora looked up to see a book flying straight toward her, pages flapping about. She immediately ducked and it hit the shelf behind her with a thud.
“I totally could have caught that!” she called, but Glimmer only shrugged from the ladder that positioned her in front of the highest bookshelf.
“Hey, my dads said to not throw stuff in here, everyone else is doing perfectly fine at not destroying ancient literature—” Bow was cut off by Frosta yelling “Catch!” and flinging two more books through the air. Adora leapt up and caught one, fingertips just brushing the other as it soared toward the wall.
“So close.” She turned back to her own book, then looked up. “Hey, does anyone smell smoke?”
The others were staring at her. Not at her; behind her. She slowly looked back to see that the book had hit the candle. The candle had fallen over. The candle was lit.
“Uh oh,” squeaked Entrapta.
The flames jumped, sparks flying, and caught on to the nearest shelf in a matter of seconds. Books hissed as their words were lost forever.
“My dads are going to kill me,” Bow yelped.
“Well, they can’t kill us if we’re all already dead,” Mermista muttered. The door had just caught on fire.
Adora stood up. “For the honor of Grayskull!” she shouted. In a blink, she transformed. “Everyone out!”
Perfuma winced. “We, ah, kind of need the door for that.” Then she perked up. “Mermista! You control water! Just put out the fire!”
“I don’t know where the water is. And I might burst the pipes, which could also kill us.”
“Oh.”
She-Ra punched a hole through one wall, debris flying. She grabbed Frosta by the waist and put her through it, saying, “Run!” Frosta nodded and took off.
Netossa ducked through it, hand in hand with Spinnerella, and they followed. She-Ra watched as the flames came closer. “We can’t get through anymore without frying.”
“Oh joy,” Mermista sighed. “What now?”
“Entrapta! Can you lift me up to the ceiling?”
Bow yelped. “Not the ceiling! That’s real First Ones architecture!”
She-Ra gritted her teeth. “I’ll make you a new one! Entrapta, now.”
Entrapta lifted a ponytail and wrapped it around She-Ra’s ankles, slowly elevating her to the roof. A spark jumped onto her hair and she let out a squeak; She-Ra dropped to the floor with a groan as Entrapta desperately attempted to extinguish her hair.
“No, no… we can still fix this! It’s fine! We can get out!” They watched as the flames danced through the library.
Part 2
Catra is cunning and skilled at using her words to get under someone’s skin. She uses her knowledge of the other person in addition to their lack of knowledge of her to her advantage. However, if her own weaknesses are called out, she will become anxious if by a stranger or someone who is able to overpower her, or try to refute the claims if called out by a friend or someone she believes can’t do anything about it. In many cases with friends she will boss them around, and can bring people to make bad decisions. She very rarely shows vulnerability; this is only exhibited with people she’s extremely close to. If under a lot of pressure for a long period of time, she can reach a breaking point in which she turns violent and temperamental. She is determined to always have the upper hand and makes carefully calculated decisions based on what will get her further toward her objective. She’s not afraid to take risks when dealing with others, and exhibits the bare minimum of respect for people in authority positions. Unless particularly flustered, she tries to act confident in herself and her words and this is often beneficial for her. 203 words
Adora makes choices based on the greater good, as she sees it as her responsibility to protect the world. With friends she’s very laid back and cares for them strongly. She always wants to make her friends happy, and is definitely a people pleaser. She tries to follow rules and is respectful to figures of authority. Her outward speech usually resembles her thoughts: if she’s feeling confident, it shows, if she’s worried or confused, that shows, et cetera. She’s an effective leader and is good at keeping people organized because of her time in the Horde. Whenever she isn’t actually in charge, she may still try to be and promote her own ideas instead. She’s also usually very honest. 119 words
Catra’s Perspective:
I remember when Adora became Force Captain. Shadow Weaver obviously favored her, of course, the golden child. She always denies it. Sure, she was always much more respectful, which I’m sure was a factor; I may have taken plenty of chances to get under Shadow Weaver’s skin. And for the record, I was right when I called Adora a people pleaser. But it was pretty clear that Shadow Weaver had some sort of grudge against me when Adora explained that I couldn’t go on the mission. I didn’t mind. I was totally cool with it. I just went up to the roof for some fresh air! Because everyone does that. It would have been fun to fight some princesses, but it didn’t mean that I was weaker or worse at fighting if I didn’t get to go. Clearly Adora thought I was sad or something— like I said, I wasn’t! — so she showed me the key to the skiffs. I was excited to try them out off duty and wanted to go fast, but Adora kept wanting to move slowly and be careful so we didn’t get caught (buzzkill!). So I took control to make us speed up. Of course Adora fought me for it, and it’s all her fault that we ended up steering the skiff into the Whispering Woods. She’s pretty clumsy, so it shouldn't have been a surprise that she fell right off the side of the skiff! I crashed into a tree— like I said, all her fault! — and went to find her. She was acting weird, talking about a sword and stuff. I guess I was a little worried. But only because of Shadow Weaver! Adora’s never been the best at hiding things and I knew that if she mentioned this to Shadow Weaver I’d get the short end of the stick. That was all I was worried about. So I brought her to the skiff and we went back to the Fright Zone. 329 words
Adora’s Perspective:
Shadow Weaver had just made me Force Captain and explained my next mission. Catra was pretty excited - but she became less than happy when she found out she didn’t get to go. She even ran up to the roof of the Fright Zone! I had really wanted to cheer her up. I probably should have known it was a bad decision, but it got us here and that’s better than what would have happened if I hadn’t! I showed her the key to the Skiff that Shadow Weaver had just given me. I knew that she would be excited; it was freedom that she wanted and this gave us an opportunity to leave our tiny area of the Fright Zone. Just like I had expected, she was. We went over to the skiffs while I was completely rethinking my decision! But it was definitely too late; I’d never have heard the end of it if I took the key back. So we got in the Skiff and started driving off. Of course Catra wanted to steer, and at first I thought that was fine. But then I realized that she would take us pretty far out, using all the gas, and stranding us somewhere. Shadow Weaver would definitely have taken away my Force Captain rank if that happened— not that Catra probably minded much. So we ended up fighting for control. Somehow we accidentally steered toward the Whispering Woods, which was pretty scary because we always heard it was full of savage princesses. Ha! Funny how that turned out. I fell off the skiff and landed in the woods. There was this weird vision I had, and when Catra found me again after crashing the Skiff she kept asking if I had brain damage. Then we went back to the skiff, and thankfully we made it to the Fright Zone without using up all the fuel. 316 words
Part 3
Backstory fic, Friends to Lovers (Netossa and Spinnerella), Songfic (part of Another Day from Rent): She-Ra
Queen Angela sighed. “The Horde attacked Elberon again.”
Her words were met by a chorus of sighs and groans. “Are they okay?” Spinnerella asked softly.
Netossa, a sudden anger in her eyes, immediately responded, “It was the Horde against a tiny town, Spinny, what do you think happened there—”
“You and I both know they’ve stood up to the Horde before!”
“That was four years ago! The Horde has been training new soldiers for four years, they’re expanding their ranks, and we all understand they’ll come here next! We’ve done nothing!”
Angella slammed her hands on the table. “Netossa, get a hold of yourself. We’re doing everything we can.”
“Oh, of course, stationing mostly untrained officers in each city and taking credit when those cities go a week without being attacked— my apologies, your Majesty, of course we are. Gosh darn it, nothing ever changes. We’ve been at this for years and we’ve never made progress. They’re going to come here and destroy everything. What’s the point?” Netossa’s voice echoed through the room. “In fifteen years your daughter will be of age. What kind of world are we sending her into?”
There is no future.
Angella was clearly flustered, even though she tried not to show it. “Netossa,” she said quietly.
“No.” The blue-haired woman left the room before tears pricked at her eyes.
Angella turned to Spinnerella. “Could you—”
“Yeah.”
Spinnerella left the room and chased Netossa down the hall to the outside. The two of them collapsed next to the huge doors of the palace.
Spinnerella gave a brief laugh. “I’m not usually the one of us comforting the other.”
Netossa smiled a bit.
“But, hey,” there was a pause as she tried to come up with something. “We’ve been doing this for forever, and we haven’t been beaten. Who’s to say that we can’t get the upper hand?”
“We were barely teenagers when we joined. It’s been far too long. We haven’t won yet and at this rate we can’t. It’s not like we can ask everyone in Etheria to risk their lives for us. There won’t be some magical thing that happens to give us an advantage. The rebellion is tearing us apart.”
There is no past.
“Okay.”
Netossa looked up and met her friend’s eyes. “What if we lose everyone else to the Horde?”
“That won’t happen.”
“All the townspeople, the ordinary folk, isn’t it their best option? They live in fear. They would have nothing to lose if they joined.”
“They have backbones.”
“Do they? No one’s defecting from the Horde. Even if the citizens reach their breaking points slowly, it puts us at a disadvantage. We can’t join because we’re princesses, we’re exactly what the Horde is fighting against, it’s fight or die for us… but the citizens can.”
“Trust them a little, yeah? We just have to not give up.”
Netossa leaned her head onto Spinnerella’s shoulder. “I hope you’re right.” She pauses. “Spinny.”
“What?”
I live this moment as my last
“Promise we don’t get torn apart?”
“Always.”
There's only us, there's only this
The two of them watched the sun set behind the Moonstone, behind the Whispering Woods, behind the faraway wasteland of the Fright Zone. It sang golden hues into the star-dotted sky. They saw the same view every night, but somehow tonight it was more profound.
“I wish we had known better. We made so many mistakes. Maybe we could have won by now.”
Forget regret or life is yours to miss
“Do you wanna go see who can break more chairs?”
“Chairs?”
“Bright Moon has tons, and there’s barely anyone here.”
“I can totally break more chairs than you.”
“Nuh uh!”
They ran back into the castle, skidding down the halls. There ended up being a lot of broken chairs afterward.
“Angella’s going to kill us.”
“Nah. She’s gonna need babysitters for Glimmer at some point. She’ll kill us when Glimmer grows up.”
No other road, no other way
They collapsed together again in the debris of their expended anger, smiling a bit more this time. Their shoulders were pressed together and Spinnerella spoke in a whisper.
“Truth or dare.”
“Dare.”
“I wanted you to pick truth!”
“Too bad.”
“Fine, I dare you to answer my question truthfully.”
“Cheater.”
“What do you think will change here after we win?”
“You say that like it’ll happen.”
“Because it will! Answer the question.”
Netossa paused for a moment.
No day but today
“Maybe you’d finally kiss me?”
Part 4
All across Scratch Writing Country, the tyrants were feared. Everyone had either lived or heard the stories. There was the Mango Bill, requiring all citizens to have with them at least fifty-two mangos at any given time; Antoine’s Law, stating that cabins are subject to search (also known as destruction) by mountain goats if they have sus word counts; Claude v. SWC, won by SWC, stating that eating fruit does not automatically allow you to join; and countless others that could be found in the massive archives. But the most well known is the Supreme Wourt Court case Alba v. Flammable Things. Alba won by a tiny margin and her case led to the complete legalization of arson. Some people really did not appreciate that.
Birdi, Robin, Honey, and Bakie were quite proud of this reputation. They loved watching everyone cower. They even put some heads on the spiked fence outside of the Exclusive SWC Overlords Club; the heads were technically mangoes with wigs and faces drawn with Sharpie, but at least it kept nosy citizens from spying on meetings.
Inside the Club, the four of them sat around a round table. Birdi got up from her chair and pulled the agenda onto the projector. “Here are the topics of discussion, in order,” she said. It read:
1. Proposition: Make SWC into the Hunger Games
2. How to increase mango imports and reduce costs
3. Break (in which Birdi will showcase her most recent amazing photos)
4. Designated time for Robin to rant about her latest favorite musical
5. Coming up with ways to force citizens to sleep on time
6. Citizen complaint in the Royal Tyrant Hall
“First order of business!” Robin said. “We should turn into a dystopia.”
Honey shrugged. “Scratch Writing Dystopia does have a nice ring to it.”
“How do you suggest we do that?” Birdi asked.
Robin had been waiting ages to present this idea; she immediately pulled up a slide on the projector reading ‘How We Indirectly But Also Directly Cause Many Citizen Deaths And Become Extra Corrupt, also known as HWIBADCMCDABEC in the Night's DOADAAVOTATOHTYV. The number in the corner revealed that there were 283 slides. “I’m so glad you asked.” She moved forward a slide. “You see, fifteen cabins is close enough to twelve— we can take two tributes from each—”
Bakie winced. “Robin, you know we can’t actually kill campers, right?”
“Huh? Dang it.” Robin frowned. “I’ll have to edit the plan, then.”
i’m legitimately tempted to make a hunger games swc fanfic because it would work so well? would’ve done that here but 400 words is short sdfjkll

HI im lily im going into sixth grade. I am {insert number} years old currently, turning {insert number} in {month}. I like to read, write and draw. I play the piano and i’ve been playing for about 4 years. I like to eat fried rice, or just rice in general. I am sorted into poetry cabin this session with arli, cami, and sparrow. It is currently summer right now, and I have several splotches from sun burns on my face. I am in swim class. I go wednesdays and fridays. I have a tendency to kick underwater and not get my toes out of the water. This was the hard part. I almost passed my swimming class, I just couldn’t because of the backstroke kicks. Otherwise i did pretty good according to my instructor. I wish you a happy summer. This is lily signing off. This was for a word war not an autobiography. I have scratch writing camp and this was an assignment of how many words i could get in three minutes. Im guessing right now i have about 180 words or something. My current profile picture is a grubhub picture and it’s kinda funny. Although it’s a little weird. I have discord open and google, and scratch and this document open right now in this window on my dell computer.

Word War!
Mozart is perhaps the greatest classical pianist to ever roam the earth. I will tell you why his music is so calming and happy and joyful. He was a very young and accomplished young man. IN fact, he managed to compose a wide variety of pieces. Mozart is the best. I will tell you why Mozart is the best. One of my favorite pieces of Mozart is his sonata in c major. nO 16. Mozart’s sonatas are all very happy and joyful. They are not the most complex, including the c major one, but they still manage to convey so much joy and happiness and love. I love that mozart’s music is sort of childish, yet it is still so beautiful. Just because it is childish doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be ignored. Mozart was one of the greatest of his times and he still is. Mozart was such an accomplished young man. He managed to do so much in his very very short lifetime. I am impressed by Mozart’s music. It is just so beautiful that it makes me want to break down and cry. It also makes me want to jump up in the air. I love vibing to his music. It is one of my favorite hobbies to listen to Mozart. I just love the way his music is different. It is so youthful and young, like my own youth. It conveys something about childhood that should be celebrated. It paints childhood as a good thing, which is why his songs are all so youthful. Anyways, mozart was able to create great music and great classical pieces. I love his piano pieces the most and he will forever be one of my favorite classical pianists to ever roam the earth. He was a god at what he did and Mozart is the best ever. Mozart is the best ever and I know this because he was awesome. Thank you very much for listening to my praise about mozart. Thank you very much indeed! I love mozart!!!!

Give me a break, Rich thought tiredly as he plopped down on the couch. There’s, like, a million people Squiped already. Let them do it.
Shut up, Richard, the Squip shocked him. He barely flinched, already used to it from the years in the Squip Organization.
You need to finish the w̵͕͉͍̥͛̈́̐̿͠o̷̧̧̗̘͙̹͙̽͌̊̋͘r̴̰̤̠̯̺̫̆͘k̷̨͈͉̝͍̔͋͜͠
The Work. Rich hated the Work. He didn’t know why his foolish teenage self ever joined it. But he was stuck here now, with no way to leave unless he magically got his hands on some Mountain Dew Red. But Michael isn’t here to save them anymore. And there was no alcohol in the base to glitch out the Squip.
Thinking of resistance already, Richard? Well, at least you’re smart enough to know that it wouldn’t succeed. It laughed. It was funny, how his Squip was the Evil Kermit, yet he feared him so much. You’d have to be really scary if you could be intimidating in the body of Evil Kermit.
Well, Richard, why don’t you go with your friends and gather some new recruits? ‘New recruits’. Yeah no, it was just taking pills from the hospital and replacing them with the Squip pills, then putting Mountain Dew on their table.
Rich scowled and got up to look for Jeremy, Michael, and Jake. He found them hanging out over there in the lounge.
“We have a new job,” he called out to them. The three were already prepared. Well, obviously. The Squip must’ve told them.
“Let’s go then,” Jake prompted.
Rich got in the car and drove to the hospital, putting the radio on to avoid the awkward silence. Or that was what the Squip told him.
They arrived at the hospital, replacing all the pills. Every move made him weight with guilt. Finally, they finished raiding the hospital and returned to the base of the Squip organization. It was actually quite a nice place. Or that was what they wanted you to think, anyway. It was extremely large, for the large amounts of ‘new recruits’ arriving each day.
For Rich, it all started when he took the pill in freshman year, all because life was difficult and he hated himself. He hated himself then, but he’ll never forgive himself now.
Stop moping around, the Squip hissed.
Right. But he didn’t want to. Actually, Rich would like to just sit there forever. He would much more want to leave, but maybe in another universe.
Part Two
Stottlemeyer and Monk
216 words character voice descriptions, 814 character voices, 1005 words total
Monk
Adrian Monk is the main character of Monk. He works as a private consultant. He was decommissioned from the police department due to his many phobias that could put others in danger. Monk's voice is mostly straightforward and perfectionistic, and he either stresses his emotions too much or not at all. He is very scornful towards the things he dislikes, like milk and germs. He is normally calm, but takes a long time to accept things. He thinks of most people in an analytical way, and only does he thinks emotionally when it's about Trudy or when someone has hurt him. His closest captions is Sharona.
I grin as I walk out of the dressing room in my full police uniform. Sharona smiles at me, excited. “You look wonderful!” She complimented.
The question now is: am I going to stay in this uniform? Stottlemeyer had gone toy reinstatement hearing. I don't know if I trust him to speak favorably of me- I can only hope. (Should I really think of him like this? I wonder.too.) But if he did, and they accepted, I would be back in the department! For once, I didn't try to fix the wrinkles on my kidshirt. It was perfect by itself.
Then Stottlemeyer came, walking down the hall.
He looked somber, his head down. It seemed like he was avoiding my eyes. That could only mean one thing. My shoulders sag. I wasn't back.
“How could you do this?” Sharona cried. She stomped towards Stottlemeyer, who was looking ashamed. As he should. How could he? I thought he trusted me..I guess all of it was a lie then.
“You and the department takes credit of his work every time!” Sharona accused. Stottlemeyer sighed, and moved out of her way. “I'm sorry, Monk. You just aren't ready to handle a gun yet.” He says, still not looking at me.
Was I not enough? After everything I've done?
–
I sit at the table, staring into nothingness. Needless to say, I was still not satisfied with Stottlemeyer's choice to throw me to the dust. Well, I guess I won't be able to be back for a while, then. I look down at my plate and push the pasta a bit to the left so it matches up perfectly with the cauliflower.
Stottlemeyer. I thought he had agreed to vouch for me already. So he just decided to change his mind at the last second, huh. Did he just want me to suffer? I've waited so long for this chance, and now it's thrown in the ashes like it was never even there. If Stottlemeyer just said a few words differently, then maybe he would be in the office right now, smiling. Instead he was in his kitchen, an hour behind schedule moping in front of his cold lunch.
Well, no use to sit and mope. Time to solve the case. For Trudy. She wouldn't want to see me like this. I could almost hear her voice, telling me to not give up. And I'll listen to her. I stood up.
Stottlemeyer
Leland Stottlemeyer is a major character in the show Monk. He is the head of the San Francisco Police Department. His voice is normally straightforward and sometimes he comes off as brash.. He is usually polite and patient to others, but when something goes wrong or one of his loved ones gets hurt, he can be quite abrasive and harsh. He cares deeply for his friends and family. He tries to remain his friendships and relations if not at the cost of his own happiness. He always does what he believes is the right thing, although sometimes this becomes hazardous to his friendships. His closest companions are either Randy or Karen.
It wasn't what I had intended to do.
They asked me if I thought Monk would be a good cop, and I told them about his detective skills. But they just kept nagging me, and I just burst, telling them everything about Monk.
“He's a good detective,” I tried one last time. “He's solved most of the cases we received, if not all.”
“Don't avoid the question,” they said. “Captain Stottlemeyer, do you think that Adrian Monk should be reinstated to the San Francisco Police Department?'
”I have to say that he is very intelligent, but he has too many phobias, and I don't think he could handle a gun yet.“ I say finally.
”Well, there's the answer.“
What have I done?
–
I walk down the hall, my gaze on the marble floor. I couldn't bear to see Monk's excited smile fade and turn into a frown. Sharona argued and argued, screaming at me, but the only person I could see was Monk. He stares at me with a betrayed look etched deep in his face. I'm quite sure he hates me now. I do too.
”I'm sorry, Monk,“ I say sadly.
I don't think I can forgive myself.
–
”Captain?“ Randy's introspective voice snapped me out of my thoughts. He looks concerned. That was special, especially for him.
Right. The case. Why do I keep spacing out? Of course I know why. I sigh and look at Randy. ”Get Monk.“ He nods and rushes off. I opened my mouth to tell him that there was a telephone right next to him, but he was already gone.
I stare at the wall. We needed Monk. What was I thinking when I talked about him like that? He's the best cop we've got. He solved more cases than the entire department could together, and we took credit for every single one of them. I should know- Trudy was probably why he was alive right now. His reinstatement was one of the only things he looked forward to, and I crushed his dreams and left him in the dust. I probably don't come close to understanding his pain, as I sit here safe and sound in my office. He nearly has nothing left now, all because of me. He trusted me, too. He probably won't ever forgive me again.
Worth a try. I take a deep breath as the door opens.
”Monk." He steps in and meets my eye.
Part Three
Backstory fic, Crossover, Middle School AU, exactly 700 words
Adrian lurched up the moment his alarm rang. He could not afford to get up after exactly 7:10. Ten was the best number. Although seven was gross, it would eventually pass. He grabbed his blanket and began folding it, making sure the corners matched perfectly. Then he put it on the middle of his bed, glancing sideways at his clock.
7:08. Now he had to stall for two minutes, to get the perfect 10. Duh.
He waited until it was 7:10, then sprinted to the dining table to eat breakfast. Turns out they were eating toast, with butter spread on top. Adrian grumbled and grabbed a knife, smoothing out the butter carefully.
“What is it this time?” Ambrose asked, staring at him as he bit into his toast and got a crumb on his face. Adrian grabbed a napkin and leaned over, trying to wipe it off. Ambrose pushed him away and dusted off the crumb. “There, are you happy now?”
“Yes, very.” Adrian finished spreading the butter evenly and began to eat. He looked at his watch- 7:20. “Oh holy pickles!” He dashed to his room, got his backpack, and stumbled out of the door. Ambrose sighed and finished up his breakfast and joined him, although they were ten minutes early. Adrian liked to be either early or exactly on time. But he would never get the seconds to be zero and the bus is always late anyway.
They waited for a while, then the bus came. Adrian went first, paid, and tilted something. The bus driver sighed, used to it by now. Ambrose followed, and together they went to their friends. Well, Adrian's friends. Kind of. Classmates. And there's Trudy
“Adrian!” Sharona called out to him. Leland acknowledged him with a nod, Randy waved, and Trudy gave him a warm smile.
“We were just talking about how the school is doing a program for awareness about pollution and stuff, ” Leland explained.
“How'd you find out?” Ambrose interjected.
“ I'm the class president, remember? Anyway, we could be in a group together.”
The bus lurched to a stop. Adrian was about to fall over, but Ambrose held him upright. Randy tried to fix Leland's collar, but he slapped his hand away.
–
“Hello, class.” Herpin greeted the students. “Today we're doing a new unit on pollution. We will split into ten groups, five people each. Any questions?
”Will we be able to pick our own groups?“ Leland asked.
”Yes, fortunately.“ Herpin gave a thin smile. ”In fact, we will pick now. Kids, gather into groups of five.“
”See ya," Ambrose shrugged at Adrian and disappeared into the crowd of students. Ah, crowds. Adrian scowled as he plucked through the classroom of 7-8th graders. He finally found Leland, Randy, Sharona, and Trudy waiting for him.
Herpin passed out the instruction papers. Leland scanned the paper with the others crowding around him. Randy and Sharona accidentally kept bumping into each other. (“Stop elbowing me!” Sharona scowled at Randy. “Well, you stop going near my elbow!” Randy argued.) Leland sighed and gestured for the two to sit down.
“We have to make a presentation about pollution. We have to cover the types of pollution and potential solutions. We have to make a Slides presentation, and there are roles. Manager, writer, fact-checker, presenter, and researcher. I would actually like to be the manager. Objections?” The group thought Leland would be a good leader, so nobody objected. “Uh…” Adrian thought for a while. “Designer? Wait no, thinger. No, I mean, how about thinger? Uh…”
“You could be the fact-checker,” Leland provided helpfully. Adrian nodded thankfully. “And Sharona, you could be the presenter, if you want. You just feel fit for the role,” Leland suggested. Sharona nodded. “And Randy could do the research, and Trudy could do the writing if it’s okay with you two.” The two agreed,, although Randy’s role would turn out to be a terrible mistake.
–
After a month, the group presented and got an A+, from Leland’s connections but mostly from Monk’s nagging to make everything perfect. The group, of course, also benefited from Trudy’s gifted writing and Sharona’s wonderful presentation.
They never made Randy the researcher again, though.
Part Four[
Exactly 400 words
The real-fi restaurant was silent, aside from the soft whisk of the wind and the distant humming of the birds. The campers were either too busy and forgot their shifts, were working fewer shifts or had not had their shifts yet. In one other case, Gee and Misty were sabotaging the other cabins by breaking their ceilings. People had tried to stop them in vain.
Gee and Lily had to leave town temporarily, and it was up to Amy to take care of the restaurant. She was quite anxious about the inactivity of the workers. The restaurant had a war to wage, yet no one was there to help. Of course, everyone dropped in every couple of hours, but few people were doing the war.
“Hey,” Rookie called from the door. “I have to eat right now, but I'll be back as soon as I can.”
Misty crunched on the ceiling of other cabins while doing algebra. “I have to do math right now, but I'll work too.” She sipped on burnt oatmeal and multitasked.
There was still hope. Amy rallied up the campers and announced: “we have to do the war. Tell me when you do the tasks, and if you did the extra challenge.” She pulled up the Spreadsheets.
The infinite bowls of mango seemed to motivate the campers. Keyboards were shattered and phones were cracked from the peer pressure of the campers as they typed.
“Back!” Misty yelled out, because she was big brain and finished her algebra questions at the speed of light. Then she pulled out her phone and started to tap at an inhumane speed. She also shuffled the Hamilton playlist to further motivate the campers.
“EEEEEEE!” She screeched as she typed this fanfic for the words. She also dropped by Fairy-Tales to check out how they were doing, also to break the ceiling.
“Hey y'all, what's up?” She called in a southern drawl. Well, her terrible impression of one. She was hyperactive and jumped around while chugging mango smoothies, eating mangos, and eating mango-flavored ceilings to show her patriotism. She also began multitasking by doing work and writing at the same time.
Then, she returned to the restaurant to discover that there was another war. So now she had to do the second part of her weekly for it, although she had no idea what to do for the part. She thought that this fanfic was terrible and therefore ended it.

scene from mr. peabody’s point of view:
while sherman was enjoying his cake i noticed the time of the french revolution.
”sherman! i said looking for him “where is he!” i muttered to myself as i entered the baking room
“hey mister peabody,” said a voice i turned around quickly
“sherman!” i said worriedly “what are you doing in here?”
“enjoying the cake,” he said
“sherman why did i tell you to stay to stay close to me!”
“it was going to rain?”
“close.” i said even though it was far from correct “after the french revolution comes the reign of terror!”
immediately after saying that the town folks barged in the queen and others were running away
“round up all of them he said”
while getting in the trailer i noticed the distance between the sewer lids and the reason that there must be one directly under the guillotine when i go there i also noticed that there.
“mr.peabody are you ok?” sherman shouted in the audience
“everything will be ok sherman.”
the guillotine fell as it was falling i saw that the light bounced off sherman's glass into the executioner“s eye blinding him which was enough time to fall through the board switching it with a cantaloupe fall into the sewer i quickly snatched sherman into the manhole
”how did you get out,“ he said i explained to him while running the way back
”that's amazing! he said
“no, it's just a matter of keeping my head.” sherman laughed
we got cornered by the guards and mister robespierre i tricked him easily and broke the pipe me and sherman burst out of there i rubbed the metal frame next to the wall which made an explosion that blasted us out of there.

part 1b:

“Do you know where any books on alchemy would be kept?” Edward asked the librarian, who smiled.
“Right this way,” she said. She got up and started walking off to another section of the library. Edward followed her to a row of shelves, a bit confused why she suddenly had started acting like he was a child who couldn’t follow a set of directions.
He glanced over the titles of the books, looking for any books that might have had an important secret- important enough that the homunculi would have murdered Hughes. One book stuck out- a book with the title “The Philosopher’s Stone”.
That seemed like it could have held something that Hughes could have found. Even if they had already known the truth behind it, maybe there were more layers of truth than Doctor Marcoh- Mauro- had told them. He was about to take it off the shelf to look through when the librarian snatched it out of his hand.
“What-” he began to ask.
“Silly me, I think this book is in the wrong section,” she said. “Oh, and these too.”
She took several more books off the shelf, then grinned at him- a grin that was eerily similar to someone he had seen before.
Suddenly, there was a flash of light, and where the librarian had been standing was an exact copy of Edward, down to the glimmer of the State Alchemist pocket watch. The fake Edward grabbed the books and took off.
“Hey!” Edward shouted. He took off running behind them. ‘How did they do that?’ he wondered. ‘Was that how Maria Ross was framed?’
Edward chased the imposter down an alleyway into a dead end, where they stopped and started looking around for something- likely an escape route. ‘I’ve got you now’, he thought with a smile.
“Who are you?” he clapped his hands together and transmuted a blade out of his automail arm.
The imposter just grinned, and in a shimmer of alchemical energy revealed themself to be Envy, the homunculus from the Fifth Laboratory. “Ta-da! Happy now?”
“Return the books!” Edward snapped. “What do you want with them?”
Envy shrugged. “I’d rather not. I have some cleaning up to do…” And with that, they rushed past Edward and vanished into the crowd.
Edward ran after them, but Envy was gone. ‘Great, I lost another lead…’ he thought as he reluctantly headed back, mood dampened by what had happened.
part 2a
words: 111 and 135
Edward Elric is, as mature as he can be at times, still a teenager. He isn’t normally afraid to speak his mind, and tends to not use formal language (aside from military titles) in any situation, instead preferring to use whichever words get to the point and act casually around most people. Edward tends to treat things with a very serious attitude and is often easy to anger when insulted (especially in regards to his height), but isn’t incapable of swallowing his pride when he needs to (after all, he did choose to become a State Alchemist). He is insecure and often blames himself for not being able to help people.
Maria Ross, like Edward, prefers to use the words that get to the point and do it quickly; in the military, not many people use very elaborate language*. Depending on the situation, she could be more open or she also could be more defensive (for example, if she were hypothetically framed for a mvrder, she would be more defensive), but most of the time is more casual than closed-off. She doesn’t want people to be disappointed in her (for, say, hypothetically breaking out of prison) and cares a lot about the wellbeing of others (and herself, of course). She tends to speak formally, though once she has permission or has gotten to know someone well enough she switches more to informal language.

I picked up the newspaper Al had given me, wondering what had shaken him so badly. As soon as I looked at it, a headline stuck out to me: The Brigadier K1ll3r is Convicted in bold, next to a photo of 2nd Lieutenant Ross.
As I continued reading, I couldn’t believe it. Hughes was actually d34d, not out in the country. Mustang had lied to me. Ross was a mvrderer. But none of it seemed to get any less true the more I stared at it. We had to look for ourselves. I came outside and saw that Winry had heard the noise Al had made.
Hughes had been so nice to her… And until then, we had all believed that he was alive. We had all been there when that had lied to us about his d34th. I couldn’t bring myself to tell her.
I told Winry instead that I would explain later and that I had to go check something, and ran down the hallway with Al. In the distance, I could hear her asking what happened- the exact question I had.
Al and I were close to the prison when we saw somebody wearing armor, followed by 2nd Lieutenant Ross and Ling, running in the opposite direction.
“2nd Lieutenant Ross!” we exclaimed.
“Edward and Alphonse?!” she asked, looking just as confused as we were.
Al and the armored person both recognized each other, but we- or, at least, I- weren’t here to reunite.
“2nd Lieutenant Ross, what’s going on? Did you kill Lieutenant Colonel Hughes?!” I asked, desparate for a real answer.
The armored person shouted for Ross to go to the warehouse district and escape, and Ross hesitated, but she ran off once they mentioned that the police would soon come bearing weapons. She shouted over her back, something about explaining later.
I shouted back for her to wait, but was interrupted by the armored person, who attacked me with a sword and blocked the way forwards. Al called after her, but it was in vain. We would have to go after her ourselves.
But as I was trying to figure out how to get past the armor, there was an explosion from the alley Ross had run into, and I realized who exactly could have made that explosion.
I cursed and used the distraction to dash past them, running down the alleyway. I stopped near the end of it at the sight of Colonel Roy Mustang standing over a still-smoking charred body with Ross’s identification tags. I was too late.
“What’s the meaning of this?” I shouted, clenching my fist. Mustang just stood there, looking at me coldly, and I shouted for him to explain himself.
Instead, I felt the impact of his gloved fist with the side of my face and stumbled back.
“You would raise your fist to a superior officer?” he asked, adjusting his collar. “Know your place.”
With that, the accumulated rage over everything- Hughes’s murder, his lie, Ross’s murder- came to a boiling point, and I swung back my fist to punch him– but before I could, Al restrained me.
I struggled against Al’s armor grip, though it was pointless- another advantage of his current (temporary, hopefully) metal body- and shouted for him to let go. I shouted that Mustang had killed Ross, trying to tell Al why to let me go, and Al began to demand answers as well- though he didn’t let me go.
He didn’t explain anything, instead just stating the events: Maria Ross had been convicted, his orders had been sh00t to k1ll, and that there was nothing else to say.
Al said what I had thought- that it didn’t explain anything-, but instead of answers Mustang just apologized for keeping Hughes’s d34th a secret, and the energy to fight drained out of me at the reminder of why exactly we were fighting.
I ran down the road, following the person who had broken me out of prison and the teenager who seemed to just be tagging along. It didn’t seem like the person had a plan, which wasn’t reassuring- I was tired of running and the police were likely already on the way.
Then, as we reached an intersection, Edward and Alphonse stepped out. We noticed each other, and there was a quick back-and-forth of “what are you doing here”- somehow, they even knew who the teenager was-, until Edward got to the point.
“2nd Lieutenant Ross, what’s going on? Did you kill Lieutenant Colonel Hughes?” he asked, but I didn’t get a chance to answer because the armored person shouted for me to use the alleyway to go to the warehouse district and escape.
I was torn between staying and telling Edward and Alphonse the truth or running, but when the armored person shouted that if I stayed it would mean getting caught and k1lled by the police, the instinct to run won out.
I apologized, said that I would explain to them later, and ran down the alleyway. I could hear them calling out after me, but I continued running, telling myself that if I stayed I wouldn’t be able to explain, but if I ran and came back later I could have a chance to tell them the truth.
When I saw the figure standing at the end of the alleyway- the infamous Flame Alchemist-, I was sure that running might have been a bad decision.
“Maria Ross, I presume?” he asked. I saw the glove with the Flame Alchemy circle on his right hand, and my body started screaming at me to run.
But instead of incinerating me like I had expected, he turned to the nearby dumpster and opened it, pulling out a horrifying thing that looked like a skeleton but with flesh added via alchemy and dumping it on the ground in between us.
“It’s a dummy”, he said, and when I reacted with confusion added: “After tonight, you’re a dead woman.”
He snapped his fingers, and a burst of flames that knocked me back on my knees reduced the dummy to charcoal. I stared at the dummy, thousands of questions racing through my mind, most prominently: what was going on?

“Do you, y/n l/n, agree to the terms of the SWC Journey?” asks the ghostly figure. There is another hum that you know precedes another one of the being’s sentences, and it continues. “You can say skip to skip this if you already know where the terms are located. If not, say go ahead.”
“Go ahead,” you tell it, and it bobs up and down and continues.
“The terms are detailed under clause 13b of document 15z of the SWC Agreement, as well as additional requirements for membership detailed under their respective documents. The conditions of gaining free room and board as well as the necessities required to survive the Journey are located in document 6d, as well as additional details under document 9b and…”
You zone out, bored by the figure’s speech, figuring that you can just read the document later. When you zone back in, the ghost looks surprised.
“Wow. In all of my centuries of experience, nobody has ever listened to the whole speech before,” it says with an astonished expression. “Do you want to join the team and help us plot the Journey?”
“Uh, sure,” you reply.
“Awesome!” it exclaims, looking as excited as a levitating blob with no facial features could be. “Hold on just one second…” It starts looking around, and you get the feeling that it is looking at things you can’t. “The terms detailed above no longer apply, and the only regulation is that while in the Journey you can’t leave, so… Just sign here.”
It holds out a piece of paper that just has a line on it. You sign your name on it, and the paper vanishes.
“Welcome to the team,” it says as everything seems to fade away for you.
When you come to, you are in what seems to be a meeting room. A couple dozen other people are also in the room, all sitting in rows of chairs and watching a translucent light blue teenager present a colorful slideshow that, according to the booklet sitting in front of you, was named “How We Of The SWC Journey Can Help Prevent The End Of The World As We Know It In A Way That Has Much Less Work, More Benefits, And Better Résumé Material, or HWOTSWCJCHPTEOTWAWKIIAWTHMLWMBABRM”.
“…This project was funded by the amazing Fan-fi Republic’s leaders and the Agency of Learning, Innovation and Teaching, with amazing research assistance provided by Myth, Fan-fi, and Non-fi’s awesome campers, leaders, and honoraries. The study’s participants are listed in the booklet, and thank you for attending my presentation on HWOTSWCJCHPTEOTWAWKIIAWTHMLWMBABRM,” she says with a bow, and everyone in the room claps enthusiastically- including you, even though you missed most of her presentation.
“Welcome to the team, y/n,” a voice behind you says, and you turn around to see a smiling translucent red bird. “Let’s get started.”

Alphonse Elric: @everyone Cornello doesn’t deserve the stone :/
Roy Mustang: @rewatching his reasoning is faulty because the stone would run out eventually
Riza Hawkeye: @rewatching yup, then where would that leave the town? If they take it he can blame it on them
Edward Elric: @everyone Fight scene, huh?
Alphonse Elric: @everyone I thought you could draw in sand?
Roy Mustang: @everyone I think he forgets the properties of sand

Winry Rockbell: @everyone And the shine on Al’s armor
Edward Elric: @everyone The episode is over :(
Alphonse Elric: @everyone Hm, interesting animation
Winry Rockbell: @everyone How has the armor brother not fallen off
Maes Hughes: @rewatching The power of the Philosopher’s Stone
Roy Mustang: @rewatching Yes, the powers of the Philosopher’s Stone can make you levitate
Riza Hawkeye: @rewatching Or just optical illusions
Maes Hughes: @rewatching You can make optical illusions with a Philosopher’s Stone
Edward Elric: @everyone THAT WALK ANIMATION IS SO SPED UP!
Edward Elric: @everyone Is that Scar?
Alphonse Elric: @everyone That door is suspicious
Winry Rockbell: @everyone I think it’s a wall.
Maes Hughes: @everyone I guess that’s it for today. Theories for what happens next?
Edward Elric: @everyone Well Cornello obviously dies
Edward Elric: @everyone There is no good ending for Cornello
Alphonse Elric: @everyone Rose gets her heart broken.
Riza Hawkeye: @everyone I think that and will and will and then
Edward Elric: @everyone :(
Edward Elric: @everyone Okay but I think we die
Riza Hawkeye: @rewatching Uh…
Riza Hawkeye: @rewatching That is so close but also so far
Roy Mustang: @rewatching That is half right
Riza Hawkeye: @rewatching Half right and so far off
Alphonse Elric: @everyone But what about the rest of the series?
Winry Rockbell: @everyone Well, the world doesn’t revolve around them
Winry Rockbell: @everyone It’s about Winry and Pinako’s grief over having lost their friend
Winry Rockbell: @everyone And Hohenheim’s guilt over abandoning his sons.
Edward Elric: @everyone We should invite Hohenheim (real) to the watch party
Roy Mustang: @everyone Interesting. Are you 100% sure
Edward Elric: @everyone That makes it sound like something bad will happen
Roy Mustang: @rewatching Not something bad that WILL happen, something bad that happenED…
Riza Hawkeye: @everyone Well according to you both of his sons’s fictional counterparts die so
Maes Hughes: @everyone Yeah, not the best idea
Edward Elric: @everyone That was just joking
Alphonse Elric: @everyone Do you mean that they do die???
Winry Rockbell: @everyone gtg, the apple pie is ready
Edward Elric: @everyone so, when is the next watch party?
Maes Hughes: @everyone A day, maybe two

Alphonse Elric: @everyone Tomorrow!
Roy Mustang: @everyone Sounds good to me
Riza Hawkeye: @everyone ^ the above person is ignoring that he has a meeting and will end up late
Roy Mustang: @everyone ^ the above person is ignoring that when there is a will there's a way
Edward Elric: @everyone ^ the above person hates rain
Alphonse Elic: @everyone ^ the above person exists
Winry Rockbell: @everyone ^ the two people above have apple pie to eat

Word War // 7/7, @SqueakyBird520, No prompt, 303 Words:
I looked around my room from where I sat on my bed, bored out of my mind. I really had nothing that I could be doing right now. It was summer break so there was no school or homework for me to do, and I wasn’t about to go looking for something educational to do either. It’s not like I wanted to be writing essays during the summer or something; I’m not that big of a nerd. I honestly don’t know if anybody really is. I wasn’t in any shows right now so I didn’t have any lines to practice, granted I did have an audition coming up but I had already practiced my song so much that I knew it by heart and had done multiple different choices with acting and all that. I also just really didn’t feel like doing that right now. What else was there that I might be able to do? I wasn’t quite sure. I looked around my room hoping that there would be something that would give me inspiration to find something to do. I looked over at my bookshelf, but I’d already read all of the books that I had more than once and I didn’t have any way to get to the library to get any new books either, so that wasn’t an option. I sighed, there had to be something for me to do. There was no way that there wasn’t anything to do. I was a fairly active person so there had to be something that I was supposed to be doing. Looking around though I found nothing… Thinking about it for a little long, I thought about maybe going and reorganizing things like my desk or my shelf or something but honestly that didn’t sound very appealing to me at all.

Character Sheet: 565 words
Anakin Skywalker - character sheet
(The first trilogy of the Skywalker saga, and up to S3E5 of the Clone Wars)
Series continuing or ended? : It’s technically ended, but I haven’t finished the Clone Wars yet, so I’m going to say continuing.
Pronouns – he/him
Sexuality – Straight
Species – Human
Strengths: quick-witted, fast reflexes, extremely skilled fighter, creative, out-of-the-box-thinker, extremely loyal, brave, focused, independent, good at tech, usually good at staying cool under pressure, compassionate, humorous, selfless, has become better at admitting his mistakes, usually listens to friends when they turn him away from a darker path, willing to do anything to save others (can also be a weakness, depending on what he has to do to save them)
Weaknesses: reckless when stressed or scared, impulsive, can sometimes be too focused and lose sight of the larger situation, revenge-seeking, willing to sacrifice his ideals and morals to save those he cares about, power-seeking, not always good at following orders, especially when he disagrees with said orders, holds a grudge (but can be dissuaded from it)
General view on life: not hateful, until he turns to the dark side, when he becomes very hateful
Tendencies -
> Tends to choose the few he cares about over the majority
Improvement: Does not improve. If anything, it gets worse, and ultimately leads to his turn to the dark side.
> Tends to be willing to sacrifice morals and ideals to save those he cares about
Improvement: Also does not improve, and actually gets worse.
> Tends to throw thinking out the window and be impatient and impulsive when stressed.
Improvement: Improving a little. He’s gotten better at listening to others when they tell him to think logically.
> Tends to argue and disobey orders if he disagrees with them
Improvement: Somewhat improving, but he usually just finds more subtle ways to get around the orders.
Situations -
Someone Anakin cares about is in danger:
Emotions: Fear, desperation, anger, panic, ruthlessness
Actions: Usually becomes single-mindedly focused to save them, even if he has to sacrifice the mission or the greater good.
Outcome: Others get mad that Anakin is putting his attachments before the greater good. Sometimes his actions pay off, and he is able to save them when the others would have given up. However, other times this makes the situation worse, or leads him into a trap.
Someone other than Anakin has to take the riskiest role in a mission:
Emotions: frustration, resentment, reluctance
Actions: Argues as much as he can. If there’s a bump in the mission, impulsively tries to go help the other person. Usually can be persuaded to calm down and trust the other person.
Outcome: If the other person is in danger, they either save themself or Anakin is able to help in the end.
He is given orders that he disagrees with or that he feels should be improved.
Emotions: Frustrated, argumentative, sulky
Actions: In the past, would have argued a lot. Now agrees, only to disobey orders as soon as they cannot stop him. If he’s not THAT against the orders, he may follow orders up until the point that he thinks it would be better to change plans.
Outcome: Usually ends well, unless something unexpected comes up and the situation gets worse, and he gets in trouble, but there’s not much time to deal with that as they try to save the mission.
Story: 514 words
Battle on the Frozen Planet
Blaster bolts whizzed through the air, sending up clouds of snow and ice as they hit the canyon ground and walls. The creaking and whirring of machinery resounded through the battlefield as lines of droids marched steadily onwards. They reloaded and cocked their weapons, unfazed by the bolts of blue energy that struck their comrades down, one after another. But for every droid blasted to pieces by a clone’s lucky shot, five more stepped forward to fill its place in the ranks.
A few bold droids broke through the defensive line, only to fall to the ground in a heap of scrap metal as they were ripped apart by a beam of blue light. Anakin Skywalker raised his lightsaber, letting the Force guide his movements as he deflected the incoming blaster fire.
“General! There are too many of them!”
Anakin glanced at Captain Rex, mind racing as he appraised the situation. Before he could reply, a nearby soldier toppled to the ground in a flash of blaster fire. Three battle droids surged forward, but didn’t make it far before a green lightsaber slashed them apart.
“I’m not sure we can keep this up much longer, Master,” Ahsoka Tano reported as she whirled her lightsaber through the air. Anakin met his Padawan’s eyes, then squinted through the howling wind to survey the battlefield. His gaze flickered over the top of the canyon.
“Aim your fire there!” The Jedi ordered, pointing his lightsaber. The clone soldiers responded immediately, firing their weapons upwards. Plumes of dust and ice filled the air as an outcrop groaned and plummeted downward. The battle droids glanced upwards, but only had time to let out shrill shrieks of fear before they were buried in the rockfall.
“That should buy us some time.” With a flash, Anakin’s lightsaber retracted, and he turned to the clone captain. “We have to keep moving, or they’ll corner us in the ravine.”
“Yes sir!” Rex signaled to the troops, and they retreated down the path. The ground shook as the Separatist forces behind them bombarded the blockage.
As the Jedi and clones ran deeper into the canyon, a red light flashed on the commlink on Anakin’s forearm.
“An—CRACKLE—in? Co—SCREECH—in,” a voice stuttered, full of static.
He frowned, holding his arm up to speak. “Obi-Wan? What’s going on?”
”Where—SCREECH—you? We’re—KSHHHH—rendezvous,” the communicator warbled. Anakin pressed a few buttons, but nothing seemed to improve the transmission.
“The canyon walls and the storm must be interfering with the signal!” Ahsoka called over the whistle of the wind.
“Of course they are,” Anakin muttered, trying to reach out again. “Obi-Wan, can you hear me?”
A low drone of engines above them cut through the sound of the storm. Looking up, he spotted Republic gunships hovering in the air above them.
“Anakin—BZZZZZ—see droids—KSHHHH—we—BZZZZZ—blast the canyon—SCREECH—trap them.” Ahsoka shot her master a look of alarm.
“Don’t blast the canyon! We’re down here too!” Anakin shouted urgently, signaling the others to move faster.
[End of Part 1, continued in Part 3]
Author's Note:
I had just started watching The Clone Wars when this weekly came out, so why not take advantage of that to write about a character that I was already familiar with! :) It really helped that I was able to look for specific strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies while watching the series, and I was able to put in a comprehensive character sheet on Anakin Skywalker. Something I would do differently next time is include a section between strengths and weaknesses where I could put in neutral traits, like being a show-off.
For the story, I decided to pick the “character has to help others cross a frozen river, but there's not enough space to fit everyone in the boat” prompt. However, this quickly went out of hand as I underestimated how many words it would take to write this. XD Another complication was trying to shift the movie-style format with an objective narrator into a story with a limited omniscient narrator, but I think I accomplished that goal.
The story will be continued in Part 3, but I was unfortunately unable to finish it for the purposes of the weekly. My motivation was starting to deteriorate a bit, but I might end up finishing the story one day! :) at least they finally actually got to the river fjkdlajfdkl
I loved writing this, and I look forward to continuing to explore sci-fi writing, and perhaps more Star Wars fanfiction in the future!

I couldn't do this. I glanced back down at the paper; up again. Down, up. Down, up. Down. Up. Down. Up. Up at all the other students, their faces twisted into various emotions - joy at receiving a good grade, disappointment at not doing well, anger at failure. I watched everyone compare their grades with each other, eager for any interesting pieces of gossip. But not me. I sat at my desk, feeling alone now more than ever. I couldn't look at it. I didn't want to know what I got. The conflicting thoughts that I could have maintained my perfectly intact grade or sent it all spiraling downwards into chaos were simply too much to bear. So that was what I would do. What I had been doing all year. What I knew I had to do. Ignore it. Just wait and see if my parents mentioned my plummeting grade or not, and there I would find my answer. Seems simple enough, right? Well it isn't. At least, not at a school where everyone knows everybody's business. Not at a school full of nosy middle schoolers. The girl sitting next to me noticed that I hadn't shared my grade, and I braced for impact. “Hey, you haven't shared what you got, have you?” she asked, not accusingly. I simply shrugged and looked away. “Well…?” she asked, clearly curious. My face flushed and I wished I could be anywhere right now other than here. But, just my luck, I was stuck here for now. At least until the bell rings. I checked my watch. Great. We still had thirty minutes left in class. By now the rest of the class had noticed me too, and they were all prying for my grade. Every time, I told myself I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of knowing it, especially before I figured it out myself, but every time, I ended up giving in, or someone would take matters into their own hands and snatch it away from me. This time, though, I told myself, I would be prepared. Ready for anything they could possibly think of. “I have to go to the bathroom,” I said, and picked up my belongings and left the classroom wordlessly. Shockingly enough, no one followed me. I kept checking behind me, sure that the whole class would be trailing me, but I saw absolutely no one. I supposed I had to go to the bathroom like I said I would, so I walked over there, not without first slipping my test into my locker so that no one could see the grade.
Later that day, when I had completely forgotten about the test grade, I assumed everyone else had too. I relaxed until I went to my locker before English class. The test was gone. Immediately, all of my senses went on high alert. I could have lost it… or maybe I just put it in a different place than I thought I did. It could be anywhere, said the rational part of my brain. But the irrational side kept unhelpfully offering up more panic-inducing ideas. What if someone had broken into my locker and stolen it? What if I failed and someone saw it? What if everyone knows how badly I did on that test? They're probably all laughing about it right now, probably thinking, look at that loser who couldn't even pass a basic history test.
“Hey,” said a voice behind me. I jerked upwards, jolted out of my thoughts, “Are you okay?” That was… not the question I was expecting.
“I… um… yes. No. I don't know. Maybe? Probably not.” I was still breathing rapidly. Who was this person? Nobody ever talked to me, certainly not like they actually cared if I was okay or not.
“I saw you in history class today. That was pretty brave of you to stand up to those girls like that,” she began.
“Wait. You're in my history class?” I interrupted, “How have I not noticed you before?”
“Well,” she replied, seeming to be slightly embarrassed, “I just transferred here a few weeks ago.”
“Oh,” I responded, at a slight loss for words until I remembered her earlier compliment. “Also, brave?” she nodded, but I continued, “That was hardly brave - that was just me being too afraid to tell everyone my grade, then running away. It definitely isn't what I would call bravery.”
“Yeah, well, I would have been to afraid to do that,” she answered.
“Wait,” I paused her, slight recognition creeping in, “You're the one who got a perfect score AND extra credit, right?”
She nods sheepishly. “We already covered this unit at my old school,” she explains.
“Still, that has to be hard to remember all that information,” I exclaimed.
“Well, not really, since I kind of have a photographic memory,” she adds.
“Oh,” I say, not really sure what else to say to that.
“Anyways, what got you looking like you were having a panic attack?” she asked.
“Well, um…” I stutter, “So, you know how I didn't want people seeing my test grade? Well, um… I had the test in my locker, and now it's gone,” I finish, not even sure why I'm telling her this. I mean, it's not like we're friends or anything. We just met. Plus, I don't do friends. Everyone with any common sense can tell that just by looking at me.

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
For this part, I chose the characters Tsunami and Moonwatcher from Wings of Fire.
Warning, this will contain some spoilers for the series.
Tsunami's voice: 105 words
Tsunami, princess of the SeaWings, has always been loud-spoken and unafraid of speaking her mind. She grew up as one of the strongest of her friends, and usually served the role of protecting them against their guardians. When Tsunami gets an idea in her head, there is usually nothing that can stop her from getting her way, and she won’t let herself be intimidated by anyone. She can be impatient and stubborn when others frustrate her, and prefers action to discussion. When talking to someone she respects, she may, in rare cases, use formal language, but she usually uses informal language to emphasize her independence.
Tsunami's Story: 342 words
Oh, hey there. What? Of course, I remember you, you’re a student here at Jade Mountain Academy. You want to hear a story about the Dragonets of Destiny? Ugh, why don’t you go ask Webs? He adores droning on and ON about that sort of thing. Hmm, that’s a good point. Wouldn’t want Webs messing up the story of MY heroic adventures, would we? Ok, fine, I’ll tell you, but be prepared to have your wings knocked off by how epic this story is going to be! Let’s start at the beginning, when we first arrived at the Kingdom of the Sea.
Clay, Glory, Starflight, Sunny, and I had just escaped the SkyWing palace, where we had been held prisoner by Queen Scarlet. Oh, she was a nasty one, and I’m glad Glory got her with her magical death spit, otherwise we might never have gotten out of there. Yeah, Glory doesn’t like it when we call it magical death spit, but I don’t care if she’s queen of the RainWings now, we’ve got to call a camel a camel.
Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, we were leaving the SkyWing kingdom, and, after a detour to the MudWings so we could try to find Clay’s parents, we headed for the ocean. You see, Kestrel had told us that my egg had been… wait for it, STOLEN from THE ROYAL SEAWING NURSERY! Gasp! Of course, I had known that I was the missing SeaWing princess all along, but it was nice to see stuck-up Kestrel finally admit to it. So of course, we had to head over to the SeaWing kingdom so I could reunite with my family. On the way, the SkyWings and SandWings were still searching for us, so we had to lie low until we reached the ocean.
Just when we got to the edge of the ocean, though, a SkyWing patrol nearly caught us. That… didn’t go very well. But look at the time! I’ve got a lesson to teach soon, so I gotta go! See you later!
Moonwatcher's Voice: 108 words
In contrast to Tsunami, Moonwatcher (often shortened to Moon) grew up in a rainforest with no one to talk to but her mother when she visited. As a result, Moon is often shy and doesn’t speak much around strangers. However, she is also kind and compassionate, since her ability to read minds allows her to feel a greater empathy for others. She is thoughtful and careful when she speaks, preferring to take the time to choose her words rather than jump right into things. Moon doesn’t like conflict or fighting, so she will usually do her best to be as diplomatic as she can when interacting with others.
Moon's Story: 312 words
Oh, hello there. You must be one of the other students. I’m Moonwatcher, but you can call me Moon. Um, where did you hear about that? I guess, yeah, I can hear your thoughts. But don’t worry, I’ve gotten really good at tuning them out, recently? Is this why you wanted to see me? Oh, a story? About… Darkstalker? I guess, if you really want to hear it.
I first met Darkstalker when I was just a new student here at Jade Mountain. I was so scared and overwhelmed at hearing everyone’s thoughts, and I kept getting visions of terrible things that were going to happen. Then, one night, I heard one set of thoughts that could talk back to me. At first, I was afraid, but Darkstalker was kind and taught me how to control my abilities so I wouldn’t be overwhelmed anymore. Yes, I know that everyone says he was evil, but there was really more to it than that. All Darkstalker did was just a twisted way to protect the dragons he cared about, but his animus magic had corrupted his soul.
By the time I realized this, I knew that although Darkstalker had been a friend to me, I couldn’t let him escape and hurt even more dragons. But then Peril burned his scroll, and he was free. At first, I thought that maybe his long time underground had made him regret his past decisions, and that he might be able to be better this time around. But, sadly, that wasn’t the case, and me and my friends had to find a way to stop him once again. I’m sorry it had to turn out this way, but I still believe that maybe Darkstalker did have some good deep inside.
Well, that’s the end of my story… and it was nice talking to you. See you again soon!
Author's Note:
This was actually the last part of the weekly that I wrote, just before posting. It was written in a couple hours, with much of the final part written during an 8-minute word war. It has been a while since I last read Wings of Fire, but I hope that my descriptions weren't too inaccurate. Moon and Tsunami are some of my favorite characters, and they have pretty distinct personalities and voices.
It was interesting to think through each of their points of view, and I hope that I was able to portray their voices well!

▪ Total word count: 118 words
◭ Word War #3 ☰▪ Lost against @DashingDiamonds oop - 118 vs 187 wordsIndia sat at her desk and opened her computer. She navigated to Google Docs, where she had to write a report in a book she had read recently. Her document was blank. No problem, actually. She just sat there for a few seconds, remembering what the book was about. Having an idea, she quickly tapped the keys, writing at what looked like the speed of light.
Yes, that’s right. India had superpowers.
She already knew. Nobody else did, though, except for her family. She was only 9. She was scared of scientists that would like to do experiments on her. That’s why she kept this a secret.
While thinking all this, she wrote an entire report. “I’m done.”

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
In Part 3 of the weekly, I continue the story from Part 1. It is unfortunately not finished, because the entire story was approaching 2,000 words and I needed to submit my weekly already :')
In this passage, I use the canon compliant, OC, and angst fic (with a happy ending, but I didn't get to that part before finishing) fanfiction tropes.
Story: 1,348 words
Battle on the Frozen Planet, Continued
“What—CRACKLE—blazes—BZZZZZ—doing there?—SCREECH—supposed—beside—canyon, not inside it!—KSHHH—happened to—CRACKLE—plan?” Obi-Wan demanded through the commlink, his voice almost unintelligible through the static and the roar of the storm. Before Anakin could respond, a thunderous boom rattled the canyon, sending a shower of dust and snow over them.
“Obi-Wan, I said don’t fire on us!” Anakin shouted at the commlink.
“—wasn’t us!—need—get out of there!” came the reply.
“Great idea! We never thought of that!” Anakin gripped the canyon wall as another tremor shook the ground. “We need to find a way out of this canyon!” he called to the others.
Rex nodded. “You heard the general! Let’s move!”
“Master, according to the maps I looked at, we should be coming close to a trail that leads up to the plateau!” Ahsoka called.
They rounded a corner, and the Padawan pointed upwards. “There!” In the distance ahead, barely visible through the snow and hail, a winding path was cut into the side of the canyon.
“Good work, Snips,” Anakin replied, his gaze hardening a moment later. “Only one problem.”
About a hundred meters away, the ground gave way to a raging river that frothed and bubbled, cutting off their path.
“Oops, I forgot about that,” Ahsoka said sheepishly.
Another boom shook the landscape. “The droids are almost through!” a trooper reported as he ran up to them.
“There’s no other way out! We have to find a way across!” Ahsoka stared at her master desperately. Anakin met her eyes, his mind fighting to come up with a plan.
Then a thunderous roar cracked the sky as a blinding light from behind them shot into the clouds. A moment later, the sound of wrenching metal and straining engines echoed through the air, growing louder at an alarming speed.
“Look out!” Anakin barely had enough time to shove Ahsoka aside before the Republic gunship crashed into the canyon floor, filling the world with white.
The ground rumbled, rocks and snow falling all around them. Anakin was thrown to the ground, but he kept his hand outstretched, gripping the Force as hard as he could to slow the plummeting debris. Even though he couldn’t see anything, he could sense Ahsoka doing the same beside him.
It seemed like an eternity had passed before the canyon stopped shaking. Anakin groaned, shoving at the force to shift the slabs of metal that were pinning him to the ground. Once he was free, he staggered to his feet, coughing. A sharp pain flared in his side, but he ignored it, focusing on the more pressing concerns on his mind.
“Ahsoka? Are you ok?” he called, searching for his Padawan through the settling dust.
“Over here!” Green light streamed through the air. Anakin turned to see Ahsoka crouched over a heap of metal, carving it in half with her lightsaber to free the leg of a trapped clone trooper.
“I’m fine,” she reported, retracting her lightsaber with a whoosh. “But he’s not.”
The wounded trooper had lost his helmet in the explosion. He clutched his leg, grimacing.
“General Skywalker!” Captain Rex emerged from the smoke, his armor scuffed and streaked with ash. Anakin made his way over, stepping over piles of rocks and pieces of scrap metal. As the dust cleared, he could spot many clone troopers lying motionless on the field or being supported by others.
“What’s the situation, Rex?” Anakin asked, surveying the scene grimly.
“We lost Jumper and Tracks, sir.” The captain’s voice was grave. “Four of the others are badly wounded. As for the troops in the gunship… about half were killed, and most of the survivors are in no condition to fight. They need medical attention, pronto.”
Anakin’s eyes darkened. He turned away slightly, pressing the button on his commlink. “Obi-Wan? Come in. Can you hear me?”
The only reply was a faint static. “It must have been damaged in the explosion,” Anakin frowned. “And the gunships wouldn’t be able to maneuver in the canyon anyway,” he added. “We’re on our own.”
The wind whistled ominously, punctuated by the clanks and whirs of the droid army marching in the distance. “We have to get across the river, or we’ll be trapped here,” Anakin told Rex. “Maybe we can use some of the debris as rafts, or—”
“Master, look! Over here!” Ahsoka’s shout interrupted. She was crouched beside what seemed to be a large clump of boulders at the bank of the river. But then she turned her hand, using the Force to lift one of the “rocks” into the air and turn them over. Anakin’s eyes widened as he realized what they really were.
“Boats!” Ahsoka reported, her voice filled with excitement and relief as she set the first vessel down on the riverbank.
“Excellent work, Ahsoka!” Anakin told her, hurrying to inspect his Padawan’s find.
“They must have been left by the villagers when they evacuated the area,” Ahsoka theorized, grunting slightly as she lifted the second boat into the air. Anakin nodded, stretching out his own arm to help her turn over the other boats.
Rex stood beside the two Jedi, arms crossed, until the four boats were lined up on the shore. Trepidation hung in the air, and Anakin quickly realized why the clone was so somber.
“It won’t be enough,” the captain stated, staring downstream. “Those boats will only be able to carry five people each, max, and there are too many of us.”
The master and Padawan shared a look. Anakin glanced in the direction of the incoming droid army, an idea coming to him. He didn’t like it, and neither would the others, but it was the best chance they had.
“Start loading the wounded onto the boats,” he ordered. Rex nodded immediately, signaling his men.
“But Master, you heard what Rex said,” Ahsoka objected. “There isn’t enough room for everyone!”
“There’s enough space for you to get the wounded troops across the river,” Anakin told her firmly. “Rex and I and the remaining clones will stay here to hold off the droid army to give you and the others time to escape.”
Ahsoka’s eyes flashed with worry. “But Master—”
“There’s no time to argue,” Anakin interrupted. He put his hands on her shoulders. “Ahsoka, I need you to get these men to safety.”
“Besides,” he added as her gaze darkened. “We’ve been in worse situations, haven’t we?”
Ahsoka stared back for a long moment. “We’ll be fine,” Anakin promised, seeing her resolve waver. “Now get going.”
“You’d better have a plan for getting out of here,” she growled, turning toward the river, where the wounded soldiers were almost finished boarding the boats.
“Of course I do!” he called after his apprentice. As she leapt into one of the boats, shaking her head, Anakin signaled to Captain Rex. “Let’s go!”
Without a glance back, the Jedi led the troops farther down the way they had come from. Anakin tried to push back the pain stabbing his side and the doubt clouding his mind. Focus on the mission, he told himself. All they had to do was make sure Ahsoka and the others got away safely.
“What’s the plan, General?” Rex asked, holding up his blaster as they ran.
“We need to buy time for the others to get across the river and to the Republic gunships,” he replied. “Let’s use the terrain to our advantage. We’ve already been here, but they haven’t.”
The wind blew harder, casting flurries of snow across their path. Anakin was just about to turn the next corner when he spotted a glint of metal through the storm. He signaled the others to stop, backing up so the army was out of view. “There they are. Move into position.”
The clanking of metal shook the ground as the droids moved closer. The troops pressed against the walls of the canyon, watching, waiting. Then, as the first line of battle droids started to pass them, Anakin ignited his lightsaber, filling the narrow space with a blinding blue glow. “NOW!”
[To be continued, perhaps…]
Author's Note:
Whoo! This story was originally meant to just be 400 words, but it kept dragging details and events out of me until it has reached almost 2,000 XD. I modeled the story after many of the battles in Seasons 1 and 2 of The Clone Wars, which were fresh in my mind as I watched the series for the first time. Hopefully I was able to accurately portray not only Anakin, but also Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, Captain Rex, and even the annoying and funny little Separatist battle droids ;). I'm not completely sure I was able to fully describe the scene and action I was seeing in my head, but that's the struggle of converting a story modeled visually into writing.
When I was reaching about 700 words for this story, I decided to divide it in two parts, one for Part 1 of the weekly and one for Part 3. At this point, they hadn't even reached the original prompt yet, so I felt that I would be able to meet my goals better this way. However, this did make it so I had to include three tropes in the story.
I was already making it canon compliant by setting it sometime during the Clone Wars, and the desperation and struggle that I wanted to put in would fit the description of an angst fic. For the final trope, I chose to insert a couple of OCs into the work, the clone troopers Jumper and Tracks. *coughs* pfft no, I didn't kill off those characters just so I could get my third trope in without changing the story much… what are you looking at?.
Overall, I loved writing this story from start to (sort of) finish, and I really want to be able to finish it in the near future. If you are reading this, and you'd like to be notified when I finally give the story an ending, please comment on my profile and let me know! :) I'd also be more than happy to hear your thoughts and reactions to the story!

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
The sun is rising above the horizon. A new day dawns over the land of Scratch Writing Camp, which bustles into action. Campers start writing furiously, knowing that the sunrise is only a reminder that the sunset is swiftly approaching.
And so the competition resumes.
In the cold north, the inhabitants of Mystery Forest desperately comb the woods for the elusive giant squid. Nearby, brave hikers hang out at the Poetry lodge, where they rest and recover for a long day of scaling Mount Epic. Beside the mountains, but even higher in the clouds than the tallest peak, is the Dystopian Castle in the Sky, where the rebels work to gather supplies to escape the city without the tyrannical royals noticing. At the base of the mountains, geocachers scour the Adventure parks for clues and treasures. A long, winding road connects the parks to the central city of SWC, where many realms are clustered together.
Within the horror arcade, gamers fend off ghosts and jumpscares as they fight to escape the neon-lined trap. On the same street, the clanging of pots can be heard in the Real-fi kitchen as the junior chefs fight over recipes and serve meals to hungry food critics. A few blocks away, the workers at the Non-fi press hurry to solve a mystery while keeping their newspaper running. And in the underground of the city, the Sci-fi Hacking Ring works in the shadows to topple the government and save their friend.
Meanwhile, in the main event square, the Historical Fiction International Renaissance Faire is taking place, where the guild members compete to complete the most quests and triumph over their rivals. To the west, the Fairy Tales kingdom struggles to stay together amidst three warring factions that each seek to win the ultimate victory. Magic and mystery also reign in the Fantasy coven, where persecuted mages, sorcerers, and wizards strive to keep their haven safe.
Off to the south, three more realms exist in a similar blur between realities. Located just beneath the surface of the waking world, the dreaming souls trapped in the Thriller Rift race to explore and complete challenges before it’s too late to escape. Deep in the woods, bold Script players put on a show of mystery, intrigue, and rivalry between two warring houses. And, intertwining with each dimension through its winding passages, the mages, warriors, and bards of the Myth Maze endeavor to earn the favor of the gods and repair their reality before it’s too late.
But as rivalries, both internal and external, divide the land of SWC, one realm rises above the rest. The Fanfiction Republic is a glowing beacon in the heart of SWC. Its citizens work hard to create fanfiction simulations, collect mysterious anomalies, and ensure the victory of their side over the rest. Despite the conflict that divides this world, Fan-fi stands united against the other cabins. Over it all, the Duck Deity watches and judges. It has chosen Fan-fi as its chosen kingdom, and, through its favor, the Fanfiction campers will rise to the top.
And so it has always been, and so it will always be.
Author's Note:
This fanfiction imagines SWC as a physical yet magical place, where multiple dimensions co-exist in one land. I looked through every cabin to incorporate their storyline in the story, so hopefully, if you're reading this, you enjoyed your cabin's part!If I mis-represented the storyline of any of your cabins, please let me know!
I actually was writing this while I puzzled out Part 1, and it was done pretty early, with me reasoning that I would only need about a sentence for each cabin to reach the 400 word limit.
Now, though, it is a relief to finally be done! I learned a lot about fanfiction and my own writing preferences and skills this week, and I look forward to the next weekly! Fan-fi FTW! <3

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
Mild Spoilers for Voltron, Legendary Defenders.
Keith is a brave Student at the Garrison. Being the Emo-kid in class, he doesn't really fit in, especially his parents - his mother, being an alien to earth.
But everything changed when he met a man, Shiro.
Shiro was a man shown with lots of respect, and when Keith faced the exam and nailed it, Shiro was delighted, but strangely, Keith is shown growling at the screen. As well as someone that wouldn’t like war, he would do anything to stop it. He has a big temper, as shown he is capable of piloting the red lion.
Lance is also a student at the Garrison. He is a person that enjoys charming girls, and came from Cuba.
When he was still back on earth, he showed signs of love and family. He had a big family, and a nice one too. His family is heartwarming, as shown when Allura comes over for dinner with him.
He has a direct crush on Allura, and is not trustworthy of Lotor. As shown, when he mumbles, “I’m just a boy from Cuba, not a space prince like Lotor.
Despite all of this, when Allura is angry at Lotor’s betrayal, Lance calms her down.
Keith’s story:
I looked out the window. While the teacher was just going on and mumbling, I just looked out the window.
I’m pretty expected to be all that, because I’m an emo-kid. The “Weird” Emo-kid.
I just stared at the window for a while, not looking at anything, but just looking at the desert.
I wasn’t looking at anything specific, just staring at the window.
Then, the teacher told us that the world famous astronaut was here, but I still didn’t listen.
All the kids looked at him- Shiro, but I just kept staring at the window.
I actually didn’t know that Shiro, didn’t have eyes on any other kids that was staring at him,
He was staring right at me.
Shiro was letting the students take trials, including me, I just didn’t want to. So I stared at the ground till all the other kids were angry or sad.
You're the last one, Shiro smiled at me. I didn’t really want to, but fine. I’d probably fail anyway.
I kind of remembered that Shiro told us that no one has made it past the third round.
Maybe I’d fail too.
I kept focusing on the movements.
Just keep focus.
Don’t listen to others.
You can do this.
And just like that, I was totally in a new world.
KEITH IS ACTUALLY DOING IT! Someone yelled.
THE EMO-KID IS! Another yelled.
Wha-
No.
I’m not doing it.
I didn’t listen till the text - Level 5 complete - was on the screen.
Thankfully, the skills of not listening were coming to use.
I didn’t listen,
Don’t listen to others
I kept focusing on the screen, but the “one kid” was just being irritating.
KEITH MADE IT PAST LEVEL 5? THIS THING MUST BE BROKEN!
I could hear Shiro talking the teacher - covered by the dang sound of cheering,
Ugh.
Even though, I still didn’t really like the garrison.
I scrunched my hand- and my teeth- angry.
I don’t want to be part of the garrison. I don’t like the stupid program. I could hear the teacher recommending the “one kid” to Shiro.
In my anger, I purposely failed level who-knows-by-now.
Lance's story
(This one has spoilers)
I could see Allura’s face.
She was the Alien princess, I guess. She didn’t remind me of any other women,
Probably all the women I saw were on earth.
But she keeps getting me to be a better person. She wants me to be one.
Allura was MAD at Lotor’s betrayal.
So did I.
I was probably the first one not to trust him cuz he stole my gal.
I’m just a boy from Cuba, not some handsome space prince like Lotor.
I told that to the mice, probably even doubting they actually care. They got it all easy, no girl to worry about.
Allura, begin the reboot sequence. Coran said.
Allura looked down, not responding.
Allura, can you hear me? Is this thing on mute?
There’s a lot of blood rushing to my head. I keep hitting the wrong buttons!
I looked at her, sad face and everything,
Allura? I asked
Oh, right. What is it you need? Allura said.
The reboot sequence!
I could figure out by how she was looking down, not paying attention, but I felt like the way she was not paying attention, I needed to talk to her.
Allura started the reboot sequence, only to fail.
Oh no, we are in worse shape than we thought! Coran said.
Sooo many questions surrounded me.
Why did Shiro betray us?
That guy was my hero!
Also, he beated up me too.
And he planted a bad virus, not even Pidge can fix,
But I felt like those were questions for later.
We got Allura to deal with. s
Allura, are you okay? You seem distracted.
I’m just so angry at myself, Allura said, I trusted Lotor, and I fear that my actions put us in this dire situation.
I confessed a few things, she did to,
But, we didn’t kiss.
I mean really.
But, we did have a hug.

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
(Find the kotlc Ref >
)
Sophie looked at the sky.
She was just writing in her notebook, about all the things she learned.
Fitz and Keefe were playing basketball,
Linh was talking with Marella,
And Tam just was alone.
Sophie really didn’t have much to do, then just write, because she was literally the outcast of the group.
Actually, Dex was enjoying his time with Biana, I could join them, she thought.
Sophie walked over, hoping that she wouldn’t embarrass herself.
But there’s no such thing called embarrassing in Dex’s world,
He was VERY imperfect. He also is known as probably the person that faces lots and lots of hardships.
Plus, he made a lot of mistakes.
But that wouldn’t take you anywhere, Dex was just kind, Sophie thought.
Especially that, they were the same age, 15.
They were in Moonlark High School, the best place ever, but kind of the worst.
There was Stina and Maruca to deal with, the meanines.
Maruca- thankfully, isn’t the worst.
The person that was the worst, probably was Stina.
And, Dex had a really bad relationship with Stina, obviously they practically prank each other ALL the time,
But, it would be nice to hang out with the-boy-that-kissed-Sophie-unexpectedly.
And, she made friends with Biana, which USED to be her enemy in middle school, but things changed.
Now, she’s just a pure cinnamon roll to Sophie.
Biana and Dex’s relationship was pretty good, maybe a little better in fact.
Sophie really tried not to think about that, but the ship with Dex is probably destroyed.
Sophie was kinda grateful for that.
But Sophie still was friends with Dex, thankfully.
Sophie walked into their group, which, thankfully, was good. They were just about to assemble their friends, and Sophie came at the perfect time.
First, they tried to find Tam, and ended up finding him in probably the darkest room at class,
Then, Linh and Marella, which accepted their request, more than just completely.
Then, finally, they found Fitz and Keefe.
The group decided to play some soccer. And then after, all go to their classes.
They assembled 2 teams- girls Vs boys.
Marella, told everyone that she was more likely to watch than react, which canceled one member.
As well as Dex.
They assembled the remaining friends, to what the chart now looks like.
Girls: Linh, Sophie, and Biana.
Boys: Keefe, Tam, and Fitz.
For the first round, the girls won.
Second, Boys won.
Third, the girls won again,
Which meant the score was 2 - 1
Girls won the game.
After the game, the bell rang, which meant it was time to get back to class.
Tam, Linh, Sophie, Dex, and Biana, and Marella, were all in the same classes.
Fitz and Keefe, both in the same class.
But Sophie felt a feeling.
A strange feeling.
Kinda like a victory-but-alone feeling.
Sophie really didn’t get the feeling, but she wondered,
Does this feeling have a name?
After school, The friends would sit in the back, chatting, because it was the only area where they could sit together.
Sophies heart fluttered when she saw Keefe and Fitz.
She both had a crush on him.
And, Dex had a crush on-
N o p e.
She was not going to think about that.
That was old, the crush died afterwards, but Sophie still was friends with Dex.
But, now, she had a feeling, a glittery strange happy feeling.
Probably only Biana would know what she was talking about, she’s been familiar with boys.
But, Sophie liked Keefe for his nice hair, and he was a bad boy, but he’s also REALLY kind with Sophie.
Then, Fitz had a crush on Sophie, Sophie had a crush on him, so they were in the same boat.
But, her crush on Keefe, was waaay more stronger than with Fitz,
The bus stopped to Innerglen, where Fitz walked down with his sister,
Then, they stopped to Candlenight, Where Keefe walked down, but not without his nice wave.
Then, they stopped at Horsefield, where Sophie walked down.
Tam, Linh, Dex, and Marella were the only ones left.
Sophie hugged her parents- Grady and Edaline, as hard as she could.
Then, she looked at the window- Dex was coming over.
What a nice day.
) Sophie looked at the sky.

“Where, where am I?” Kara said to herself in a low raspy voice. Her throat was dry and raspy. “Oh my, Taff, Taff, wake up Taff, please Taff, wake up!” Kara shouted out at the top of her lunges. “Taff, please.” Kara cried as she lay on the floor of an old wooden building. The ceiling was held tall by four large wooden supports in the middle of the room. On one side sat a small cooking counter and a rug with a small stool, merely raised three inches of the ground. There was no eating table, the rug must be where the food was eaten. The house had a large golden bird cage that sat in the middle. All four of the wooden supports were in a circle around the cage. Inside sat a beautiful bird that was singing a calming song. Kara gathered her strength and pushed herself off the floor. She felt weak and tired. Kara paced the very large room to look for an exit. There was no such door she could find. Kara of course was a witch, so she must be able to escape, but alas she had used the last three pages of her mothers grimoire. Kara could reuse a page she had but there was nothing in the pockets under her dress, she had sewn in for emergencies. How could the pages have fallen out? Now Kara had nothing to do but lie on the floor and try to come up with a plan.
Every now and then Taff would mutter or shake on the floor. Kara had cured him of his diseases, but he still seemed to shiver and cough. This place they were in, who’s home it was. Perhaps it was a witch who saw the two kids lying on the ground trying to rest for the night and kidnapped them. That means there could be a grimoire hidden inside of here. In the past Kara had hid her grimoire in the floorboards of an old barn, a month or two ago. The floor in this old creaking building could possibly have a loose floor board.
Kara didn’t want to wake her brother, but the wooden room, very large in size, would take hours for Kara to search alone. “Taff, Taff, wake up please.” Kara gave him a gentle shake and whispered into his ear, “Come on Taff. I need your help. Please wake up.” Taff stirred and mumbled on the floor of the room.
She had gotten up and walked to the other end of the room to start checking floor boards. “Kara, what’s going on?” Her face lit up. Taff had woken up.
“Taff! Come here now. Help me search the floor boards to see if there is a loose one we can pry off.” Kara said. She remained calm so that Taff wouldn’t freak out about being in a strange foreign room. Kara always stayed calm around Taff so he wouldn’t become frightened, but most of the time Taff was at ease as long as he had family around him.
“Why?” Taff asked, his voice hushed as he coughed.
“Taff, are you sick again. I can summon our creature if we must help you again.” Kara was worried though as she said that. She didn’t have the grimoire papers to do that. Kara didn’t think she had enough strength and knew enough to summon a creature from memory.
“I’m alright Kara. What are we looking for?”
“It doesn’t matter. Look around you for loose floorboards, or cupboards hidden in the wall.” Kara didn’t want Taff to worry about her using magic. It wasn’t his problem, it was hers. Kara is pretty certain Taff isn’t a witch, but he’s never been in touch with a grimoire and Kara wants to keep it that way. She doesn’t want to lose anyone else.
“Kara, Kara, look!” Taff exclaimed as he shook a piece of wood on the floor and it appeared to be coming loose.
“Coming.” Kara told Taff. She crossed the room over to him and took her shot at prying off the loose board. Kara shook it vigorously and ripped it off. Inside was a large book like Abigails had been. Her aunt Abby had gone insane using the grimoire including the last page and had suffered a terrible death like her enemy Grace had. Kara opened the book and started skimming through it for an open page. She got a bit passed halfway in the heavy leather covered book and found a white page. “Stand back Taff.” Kara called to him. She thought of something that could break through the wall, an animal, and she wanted one that could fly. Possible a Ravetoure. They are large bird-like creatures that have a forceful beak and live in the Thickety, which happened to be where they were. She pictured it in her mind and traced out the shape on the book. The large animal appeared on the page and Kara lost herself in a trance as she spoke at words to summon it. Kara feels distant and separate as she chants whenever she casts a spell, and sometimes can’t even recall what she did, but today was different. Kara could hear every word of her spell and see the outside world while she did.
“Kara. Kara. Kara!” Taff yelled as the giant beast broke through the roof and landed down.
“We’re free Taff! Let’s go!” Kara hoisted her brother up onto the creature. Taff wasn’t sure if he trusted the animal, but he trusted Kara and that was good enough for him.
Kara signaled the bird to go by tapping it with her heel and held on tight as the fluffy white bird soared off past the old house and through the trees of the thickety.

Part 2
Will: Book 1: The Ranger's Apprentice (Part of the Ruins Of Gorlan series)
Pronouns: him/he
Sexuality: Straight
Species: Human
Will is very brave. He is determined to protect his friends and the people closest to his heart. Will is very hardworking and will do what it takes to become a full ranger. If somebody is in trouble Will will help them out of their problems. He is also hard on himself. He must complete what he has started even if that means he is in danger. Will is not the best at social issues because he is often around adults and not kids. Will likes to think he is right and he has the better idea around his friends. (He typically does have the better idea.) He is more reserved around Halt and likes to ask a lot of questions.
Halt is also brave. His apprentice is Will and Gilan, and he was a good teacher to both. Halt values Will’s life and his other friends/apprentices very much. Halt is always trying to protect and teach Will. Halt gets easily annoyed when he is asked a lot of questions. Halt very much likes the company of others. Halt serves Barold Aaron and will dedicate his life and fight for him. Halt is strong but small, brave and has very accurate precision. Halt loves Will, but doesn’t often show his emotions. Halt has dedicated his life to being a ranger which makes him quite stealthy, and great with a bow. Many people fear Halt because he can easily kill them.
Will’s perspective of the Kalkara attack:
I know that Barold Aaron and battlemaster Rodney are strong fighters, and they can take down the final two kalkara, but I need to be there. I need to make sure Halt is okay. I followed the two as they talked about their plan to kill the kalkara. They were okay with it, as long as I stayed back from the kalkara because of their deathly red eyes, which freeze the body, and kill you after a while.
“Will, you know you must not follow us all the way. You would be in danger. As we approach the building, stay back.” Barold Aaron told me.
“Of course.” I told them in reply. I would do whatever they told me. I know not to mess with some of the most powerful people in Araluen.
In the distance I could see the broken down stone building where Halt must be. The kalkara would be coming soon, unless they were already there. The sun had set and it was getting late, cold, the wind was picking up speed.
“Alright Will, stay here. We’ll be back soon.” Rodney said to me. He got off his tall black battle horse and so did Barold Aaron. Rodney took his massive battle axe and Barold Aaron took his weapons as well. I stayed back on Tug for what felt like forever. The sky was reaching pitch black so it must have been around an hour. I had a gut feeling something was wrong. I am a ranger apprentice, I can help. I know I shouldn’t and I know Barold Aaron would be furious if I barged in, so I should just stay back. Watch, but from a far. I took my bow and walked towards the pile of ruins that used to be a stone building. Then I saw it. My body froze and I witnessed the sight of one kalkara on the ground. Halt was on the ground, no bow in his hands. Barold Aaron was trying to stop the large beast, but being backed into a corner, and about to face the terrible fate of the stare. He got knocked down and injured. Barold Aaron closed his eyes. Rodney took out the large battle axe and went to hit down the beast. He got in one good swing, but ended up looking into the blood red eyes and became petrified. I wanted to scream out to halt, but I knew there would be consequences, so I grabbed the bow, and got an arrow from my quiver. I used the cloak to blend in and went forward to attack the monstrous beast. The kalkara looks like a cross between a bear and a large ape. It was a hideous sight. I came in slowly from behind as Barold Aarons unmoving body. It was now or never. Steady Will, steady. Don’t worry about the wargals. It was a single fluke. You can do it. You must save Halt.
I released the string from my fingers and the arrow went forward and struck the beast. It turned towards me, the arrow pierced its shoulder. I had missed its heart. The only way to kill it. Halt looked straight at me and smiled a weak smile. I had to do this for Halt, for Barold Aaron, and for Sir Rodney. I had to hit him. The large beast came stalking towards me, its eyes an evil red. I got another arrow from the quiver and shot him, another hit on his opposite shoulder. It was a miss. Try again. I took out my final and last arrow, and aimed directly at the heart. The beast was nearing me. I held the string firm, and released my grip. The beast staggered towards the ground, into flames and died. I did it! I actually did it! He died, and I saved them. I did it!
Halt’s perspective of the Kalkara attack:
I had been tracking the kalkara for days. Abelard was getting tired, his legs going weak. The sun was due to start setting soon. Power through, for the safety of the kingdom, or the kalkara will become too powerful, and kill even more. Ahead was a ruined stone structure. I should be behind the kalkara still, they won’t realize if i take a break, nobody will. One night of sleep under a shelter, though it may be in ruins. I steered Abelard to the broken down structure, and took him towards a part with a bit of roofing in case it rained. I had no need to tie him to anything, he was to command only to someone if they said the key word. I found a nice part of shade under the structure, and set to rest. I shouldn’t sleep under an unprotected place like this, it was barely a shelter. I would just rest for a couple of hours. I could regain the time on the kalkara. They are fairly slow beasts, and if Abelard rests up we should be able to go at a fair speed. Stay alert, as always and hide beneath the shadows of your cloak. It has become more like a routine thing after all the practice.
I sat for quite a bit when I heard footsteps, and a whine from Abelard on my right. Who would be around here at a time like this, and a place in the middle of a cool desert environment. I stood up and went toward a more shadowy area, so I could get a good look at the passing creature, or person without them looking at me. Abelard continued to whine, and was about to show we were here. “Abelard, hush.” I calmed him, but he continued to whine. “Abelard, what is it?” I asked. Typically he responds and follows orders, rather than continuing to sell us out. Then a flash of red went through the dark area. This was in fact very bad. I had been on a wild goose chase, and I was the one being chased. I pulled Abelard into the shadows farther back, and got an arrow from my quiver. I set up my bow. One strike to the heart, all I need. I took a shot and hit it directly in the heart, while avoiding contact. That was only one of the two, and currently, I was unaware of where the second one was. The first one was staggering around. Fire was needed to kill them, but I couldn’t see much kindling, and there was still a second kalkara roaming around. Then it hit me, quite literally. The second kalkara hit me over the head, and knocked me unconscious.
I could briefly see two men run towards the kalkara and shove it into a pile of flames. Then one rushed to my side. “Halt, halt, are you alright!” One of the men asked me, loudly and quickly.
“Watch out for the other,” I mumbled, trying to stay awake.
“What other?” He asked me.
“Aaron, watch out. Close your eyes!” It must have been Rodney screaming. They both tried to fight the monster. I got up, and grabbed my knives. I should damage the beast. My body shook, but I closed my eyes tight imagining the target, and threw one. A piercing scream went through the air. “Bullseye! Right in the eye.” Rodney cheered. I tried to stand up again to get the other eye, but my body staggered. I heard yells and screams from the beast, and then the sound of an arrow flying through the sky. I opened my eyes, and I saw the two men laying on the ground, one petrified, the other hurt. Then I saw him. Will was holding a bow and attacking. I gave him a weak smile, and then my eyes shut again, and everything went black.

2. High school AU
3. Soulmate AU
Show: Bella and the bulldogs
“Bella, Bella, Bella, did you hear, did you hear?” Pepper pestered Bella.
“Hear what?” Bella asked. She was running late for practice, and coach hates it when they’re late. “Pepper, can you tell me later?”
“It’s kind of urgent Bella. You seriously haven’t heard? It’s making me so mad. The government doesn’t have the right to dictate our life.” Sophie was complaining.
“Okay, what are you talking about?” Bella was so flustered about what they were saying, on top of being late for practice.
“You seriously don’t know. It’s been all over the news!” Pepper was explaining to Bella.
“What news!” Bella was becoming frustrated that they wouldn’t tell her.
“Just watch this.” Sophie shoved her phone in Bella’s face and pressed play. It was the news.
“All tenagers of the age 15-23, will be informed of something you and your soulmate share, and you may find them if you choose. You will be informed if you have found your soulmate, if the two of you have touched. The government has informed us that if you choose not to find your soulmate, and your soulmate chooses not to find you, both of you will be fine. If you choose not to find your soulmate, but your soulmate chooses to find you or the other way around, the person who chose to find their soulmate will die. This will start on Friday. That is the Monday Silverado news. Go bulldogs!” The news turned off, and Pepper turned to Bella.
“What if we die?” Pepper asked. She sat down on the bench in between the two stairways and put her head in her hands. “I don’t want to die.” Bella sat down on the bench with Pepper. She wanted to say something, like it will be alright, or nobody will die, but what if somebody did. What if she died? What if Sophie or Pepper died, and she had to live without them. She wouldn’t be okay.
Bella hugged Pepper and Sophie and went down the hall to the locker room where she could get ready for practice. Bella had assumed everyone would be out on the field already, and that she was running quite behind. She had been five minutes late without Pepper and Sophie, but when they stopped her that added around an extra 12 minutes. She was almost 20 minutes late. To Bella’s surprise, everybody was still in the locker room. Some had items of clothing on, like their pads, or the pants, others were fully ready, and some hadn’t even put a piece of clothing on.
“Bella, where have you been?” Troy walked up to her and gestured for her to sit.
“Why aren’t you all practicing?” Bella asked the group of boys in the locker room.
“Have you seen the news?” Sawyer asked Bella. “This ain’t good Bella. What if we lose our team. What if I lose Pepper?”
“Pepper? Wait, do you still like Pepper?” Bella asked. This was something unexpected.
“I… Um…” Sawyer started, but his voice trailed off.
“You do!” Troy said in a state of shock. “Wow.”
“Oh my goodness Sawyer, you’re right. What if Sophie dies!” Newt exclaimed. “What if I die! Bella, what do we do?” Newt looked like he was about to cry. “Can y-you fix this B-Bella?” Newt whimpered.
“I… Um… I… all we have to do is just convince the whole state of Texas to say yes to finding their soulmate so nobody dies.” Bella told them all. “We can do that, right? Oh no.” Bella looked distraught as well as all the other kids in the locker room.
“Bella’s right.” Troy said. His face lightened. “We have to crash the Silverado news and tell everybody to pick yes, and then we need to convince a real news station, like Texas 9 o’clock news and get them to broadcast the message!”
“Troy you’re a genius!” Sawyer exclaimed.
“Can we really do that?” Newt asked.
“It’s our best bet, Newt. Come on, let’s go.” Bella led the team running out of the locker room, picking up Sophie and Pepper on the way. They made their way to the janitor closet where Ace filmed the Silverado news. Ace was a short boy who wore a fake mustache and did commentary for the football games.
“Ace, get out,” Bella said calmly and steady.
“But, but this is my studio!” Ace stuttered.
“Ace, why are you even here after school? School ended an hour ago!” Sophie told him.
“Why’s Sophie and Pepper here?” Ace asked back.
“We do cheer after school.” Pepper told the short boy matter of factly.
“F-fine.” The boy caved in, and stepped out of the five person room. Bella, Pepper, Sophie, Troy, and Sawyer went into the room.
Sophie walked in front of them all to the seat by the computer. “What are we doing?” Sophie asked. Pepper nodded her head in agreement.
“Filming a video.” Troy told the two clueless girls.
“Alright, I'll pull up the camera, attach the cables, get the editor, and … ready.” Sophie is a good tech girl, and could edit the video to make it look good. She pulled down the greenscreen behind the group of people. “3, 2, 1, action!” Sophie yelled.
“Welcome to Silverado news bulldogs. Today we will be talking about the soulmate procedure. Many teens are scared of one kid saying yes, and one saying no. To avoid any deaths, the state communication will be to choose yes, that way we can avoid deaths.” Bella was a natural on the camera, much like she was at football. “This is Silverado news signing out. Go bulldogs.”
“Wow Bella. That sounded great.” Pepper exclaimed.
Sophie began to work on the tech issues and editing while Troy asked his question. “How are we going to get this on Texas 9 o’clock news?”
“They’ll probably be at Thursday's football game. Give them the clip then.” Sophie replied.
“That’s cutting it quite close, don’t you think.” Sawyer told them.
“It’s our best bet man.” Troy took the flash drive Sophie handed him and walked out the door.
_______________
“Welcome Silverado Bulldogs to today's football game. We have been pleasured with the presence of Texas 9 o’clock news station doing a segment about our girl QB. And let the game begin!” Bella played her heart out as her two best friends cheered with the cheer squad. Bella got an amazing pass to Troy for a touchdown, and she herself scored a touchdown. Then a pass to Sawyer, and he was so close to a touchdown, but was tackled a meter too early. After the well played game, and a win for the bulldogs (Which was good for the news station) Troy and Bella approached the news anchors.
Bella approached the news anchors to ask them for a favor. “Hello, my name's Bella. We have some-”
“My pleasure Bella. My name is Olivia Soler. Do you mind if we interview you?” The news anchor went on and on talking about how she once wished to play football, but stuck with cheer because she was too scared. Bella acted polite but she didn’t have the slightest interest.
“Ms. Olivia, I have a question for you involving the soulmate issue. I was wondering if you could put this segment into your video.” Bella finally managed to ask.
“Anything for the young Ms. Bella.” The news anchor took the drive and pulled Bella to the side of the field to continue the interview.
_______________
Friday morning came too early. Bella ran to school two hours early. She was going to set up the clip on the school tv, and she still had to make sure the news incorporated their clip. Bella was to meet up with Sophie, Pepper, Sawyer, Newt, and Troy to complete this action.
Bella made it to the school running with the spare flash drive Sophie had given her, and going straight for Ace’s janitor closet. Bella had managed to be late, again. Her friends were growing used to this. Panting Bella stumbled into the closet, “I… got…the…flashdrive.” Bella made out in gasps of air.
“What happened to you?” Troy asked her.
“Nevermind that. Did you check the news? They posted late last night. I haven’t seen it yet.” Bella told her friends.
Pepper walked up to Bella and handed Bella her water bottle. “Here. You can use it. None of us have seen the news either. Sophie, can you pull it up?” Pepper asked her.
“Just a sec, I’m putting in the flashdrive.” Sophie finished the download and made her way to the news station on Ace’s computer. “Here, watch.”
“Welcome to 9 o’clock news. Today we have a special about the young highschool Bella, playing football on an all boys team.” The news was ranting off their programs.
“Can you skip forward?” Newt asked Sophie. Sophie did a few clicks and skipped right to the end of Bella’s interview.
“And here we have a message from Bella: Today we will be talking about the soulmate procedure. Many teens are scared of one kid saying yes, and one saying no. To avoid any deaths, the state communication will be to choose yes, that way we can avoid deaths. This is Silverado news signing out. Go bulldogs.” The news clip finished and Sophie shut off the news channel.
“It worked!” Troy exclaimed. “My brilliant plan worked!”
“Oh shut up Troy. Look at the time, broadcast the clip to the tv, schools open!” Bella informed her friends. Sophie transferred the clip to the tv in the hall, and right at the end, kids were getting their information. Above Bella’s head and all her friends appeared a message. Would you like to find your soulmate? All of them selected yes.
Bellas item was: Football
Sawyers item was: Spicy food
Newts item was: Performing arts
Troys item was: Football
Sophie’s item was: Spicy food
Pepper’s item was: Performing arts
“Guys, I got football, what if it’s someone on the team?” Bella said. She seemed excited.
“You got football?” Troy asked. He only knew one female football player, and it seemed like Bella could be his soulmate.
“Yeah! What’d you get?” Bella asked him excitedly.
“Um… I got dancing.” Troy said off of instinct. He was great friends with Bella. He’s always enjoyed her presence, and loved hanging out with her, but he didn’t know if he loved her, and what if she didn’t love him?
“I got spicy food!” Sawyer said. “I love myself some spice.”
“I did too.” Sophie said, a bit of confusion.
“Touch each other!” Bella yelled. “Do it! You could be soulmates.” Sawyer and Sophie awkwardly put out their hands. Newt hated watching this. He’d had a crush on Sophie since they met. He couldn’t bear watching this. Their hands touched and a dinging sound happened in their ears.
“We’re, we’re soulmates?” Sophie said out of confusion. “This is weird.” Newt lowered his head, and went to walk away.
“Newt, what’s yours?” Pepper asked him before he could leave.
“Um… performing arts.” Newt said quietly.
“Me too!” Said Pepper. She seemed confused, but excited. Newt went to walk away. This was too much for his brain to handle, but Pepper reached out to stop him, and she heard the faint ding like Sophie and Sawyer heard. “We’re soulmates. Strange.” The group separated, girls going one way, boys the other.
“You two are lucky. You’re great friends with your soulmate.” Bella told the girls. She was a bit upset she hadn’t found hers yet.
“I guess you’re right.” Pepper said. “It might be nice.” Sophie nodded in agreement.
“I guess you’re right.” Sophie said. They split up to go to class.
_______________
Late at football practice the team was doing tackles. Troy had the ball. Bella tackled Troy. They both heard it. “You told me you had dancing. Not football!” Bella yelled at Troy. “You lied. Is it because you don’t like me!” Bella stormed off towards the locker room crying.
Coach walked up to Troy. “What was that about?” He asked Troy.
“I have to talk to her coach. I’ll be right back.” Troy explained. He ran to the locker room, and went to talk to Bella.
“Bella, I never meant it like that. I was scared. Scared that I really did like you.”
Bella walked out of her corner of the locker room. “You really do like me?”
“Yes. I was scared you wouldn’t like me, and I didn’t want to admit to myself that I liked you.” Troy told Bella. He seemed sincere and Bella trusted him.

SWC Fanfiction:
Moneries’ camp was not a regular camp. It consisted of seventy-three hand picked kids across the USA, Canada, and London. There were twelve cabins, each named after a genre of writing. The first cabin is Horror. There are six kids in Horror. Each kid is a bit more mysterious than the last. Next is Poetry, the kids who are over obsessed with literature and poetry. They express themselves too much. Next is Mystery. They like to solve others' problems, but sometimes end up being a bit too intrusive. Then there is Fantasy. Fantasy kids are nose deep in books all the time. They also vibe with flowers quite too often to be healthy. There is also, Dystopian. The kids in that cabin are very distant, and are very persistent that everything around them must be fair. There shall be no injustices in their minds. Next is Realistic Fiction. Those kids are mostly normal. They have a regular outlook on life. I have little to say about them, except they are sometimes overly dramatic. Next, we have Adventure. They are brave kids who can quite easily get into some trouble. They like to adventure, just like their title. There is also Historical Fiction. They’re the history geeks who also share way too many facts (Some boring, some interesting, others quite gruesome and disturbing). Now, we have Thriller. They’re cool people. They’re a bit scary when they’re mad. Like really freakin scary. They can be nice people though. You just have to stay on their good side. Thriller kids are also leaders, not followers. And now we have Sci-fi. They’re weird. I’ll admit it. They think aliens are real half the time. Don’t be in Sci-fi. That means you’re half crazy, half evil genius. Next is… Mythology. Myth is the most popular cabin. Most people really enjoy Myth. I was not put into Myth. When I got my acceptance letter to the camp, I was pretty bummed, but hey. At least I didn’t get Poetry. Back to Myth, they’re like the cool kids from your school. They’re chill, brave, smart, and a lot of the time, hot. Now is time for my cabin. I’m in… drum roll please… Fairy Tale! I’m super excited. This is my first time going, and I will be in a decently cool cabin. Fairy Tale kids are said to be magical. They’re smart, good at writing, tend to hang out with Myth a lot (Yayyyyy) and they’re decently good humans.

Tropes:
1. Friends to Lovers
“I like you too.”
