MYSTERY FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Marie Shmitz was walking along a dark path in the dead of night. She was 12 years old. Wind whistles through the air, causing her dark brown hair to whip in her face. She shivers. Suddenly, in the frigid river aside her, there is a disturbance in it’s calm flow. An eerie noise fills the air, and suddenly, a cold, slimy tentacle shoots up from the river! Marie screams. It wraps around Marie’s leg and pulls her down. She falls to the floor, her heart beating quickly. The horrendous creature drags Marie to the edge of the river, and her fingernails cling to the dirt. With one sharp tug, the creature pulls her into the river. “What does this creature want with me?” She thought, slowly losing air. Her eyes close, and she slowly descends to the river floor.
But alas, nobody knows that story. All they know is that Marie Shmitz mysteriously disappeared from Stowe, Vermont in 1984. Her scream was the only thing they heard.
Present day (2014)…
11 year old Willow Katz sifted through her mother's childhood photos. A strand of her long, blonde hair fell into her face. She quickly brushed it away and tucked it behind her ear. Willow's mother's old photos were mostly of her college years, but a sprinkle of them were from elementary or middle school. Willow found a small photo of her mother and a girl that looked… strangely familiar. The photo was tucked away in an old envelope. In this photo, her mother and a friend were giggling and giving the camera a big thumbs-up. They both flashed big smiles, and her mother's friend was missing a few teeth. She wore her hair in pigtails, and her smile was so big and geniune it was contagious. The girls looked no older than 5 or 6. Willow smiled, and tucked the photo into her pocket so she could ask her mother who her friend was. Over a scrumptious dinner of hot lamb steak and creamy, salty mashed potatoes, Willow pulled the photo out of her denim jeans and said, “Oh yea! Mom, I almost forgot. Who is this girl with you in this old photo?” Willow pointed to her mom's friend, the girl with missing teeth. When Willow's mom looked at the photo, her eyes grew wide, and she almost choked on her steak. “Where did you get that?” She snapped, snatching the photo out of Willow's hands. She stared at it for a moment longer with a mixture of fear and sadness, and then stuffed it into her pocket. “Mom?” Willow asked timidly, “Are you okay?” “Yes.” Willow's mom claimed, her eyes steely, “We will never speak of this, or… or… my friend again.” Dinner was very quiet after that. While Willow was eating her mashed potatoes, she heard her mom whisper something that made Willow both scared and curious. “Marie… how did you disappear? How could you leave me? We were best friends…” Willow's mom said that so quietly that she was sure Willow hadn't heard, but Willow had. “Marie?” Willow said, dropping her fork. "You… you mean the girl that disappeared from… from here, Stowe, Vermont, 30 years ago? You knew her?“ ”No. No. No. I didn't know her. You… you must have misheard me. Subject closed.“ Her mother said. ”Fine!“ Willow snapped, ”I'm going to my room." Willow stomped up the stairs to her room and plopped onto her light blue blanket, thinking about what her mom had told her. Did her mother know Marie? But if she did, why would she lie about it? Willow had so many questions, and she wasn't sure if she could live without knowing the answers to them. Willow stood up, her bed creaking. She ran to her desk and opened her computer. The bright screen lit up as she typed in her long, complicated password. She entered “Marie disappearance” into her browser, and over a thousand results came up, but none of them were helpful. The all just claimed that nobody knew how she disappeared. But Willow was determined to get to the bottom of how Marie disappeared, but also how Marie and her mom knew each other. Willow took out a sheet of paper and wrote Go to library along with some other helpful things to find Marie. Eventually, Willow grew tired. “I'm going to bed.” She muttered. Willow took a hot bath and climbed into bed, cuddling up with her favorite stuffed animals, a white lamb named Helena, and a pale pink bunny named… well… Bunny. She closed her eyes.

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
july 1 daily, introduction, 1013 words
Hello there! I'm Kitty/Luna (you can call me either but I prefer Kitty) and my pronouns are she/her but they/them is fine with me. I'm attempting the 1000 word introduction challenge for the first daily that is not a daily because it does not count for points but still. Well, it technically does because words = points. I've only got around 1 and a half hours of computer time, so I might not finish. Anyways.
I am an ambiverted weirdo in real life and an extrovert on scratch. I love reading anything. I read books like KOTLC (ok that's not a book it's a series but still), WOF (that's another series), HP (another series lol) and a couple of classics such as Anne Frank and Little Women. But I will also willingly read the back of cereal boxes and the tags on my t-shirt. At school whenever my class has a novel term (that's basically a term when in reading we read a novel for the entire term. I'm not too fond of it because we read a few chapters a week and the process is so slow) I always read ahead. One thing I don't enjoy reading is non-fiction for some reason.
Another thing I love is cats. Why do you think my username is _kittykay_ and my nickname is Kitty??? I own a ragdoll kitten. His name is Boy (yes, that's his name) and he is ginormous. It makes sense though because he's a ragdoll and ragdolls and supposedly the most giant cat breed in the world. He's currently on my bed grooming his tail and sniffing my blanket.
I also enjoy art, which takes up a lot of my time. Art was one of my earliest hobbies, before reading and writing. Painting is one of my favourite ways to ‘do’ art. I am often told that I have too many markers and paints. Which I do. Mostly because of Hydro. She gave me a big bunch of markers.
And of course, I love writing. I love swc. I love procrastination. Especially on weeklies. SWC has impacted my life so much in both good and bad ways (ok, maybe not bad). It has taught me that many irresponsible children *wink wink* love to stay up till midnight. It has taught me how to be patient and how to count handwritten words accurately. I've also made a lot of new friends here in swc. Some of them have lasted very long. I think this session is my fifth session already! I plan on staying for a few more sessions. It's so fascinatingly sad to see old swc-ers go and so exciting to see new campers come in. I'm in Thriller Rift this session with Birdi, Kit and Moonlit (#thrillerftw!!!). Time flies by. I'm hyped about swc this month, but thankfully I'm not up to the point where I sleep at 3 am.
Now. A few things you should know about me. Number one. I am very messy. My bed is currently covered in clothes, I tidied my bedroom floor a day ago and there's already stuff on it, my desk (the one that's not in my room and yes I have two desks) is constantly covered in things such as books, paper and my art supplies and I never feel like doing my bed so it's always messy vest because of my blanket. Number two, I've been on scratch for over 2 years. I've moved accounts once and I have around 10 accounts for absolutely no reason at all. Number three is that I have a little sister who is three years younger than me and is destined to annoy me. She treats my room as a playroom, always coming in and messing things up. The most annoying thing is I can rarely get privacy. Number four is I don't know what to write next.
EMOTIONAL DAMAGE-
Oh yes. There is something to write about. My amazing timezone *smirk*. I live in New Zealand which in my area has the time zone of New Zealand Standard Time also known as NZST and it is one of the earliest timezones in the world. So when all you
EDT people are counting down the minutes to July, I'm just standing here in the corner knowing that it's already been July for 17 hours. The only thing bad about having an early timezone is, well, SWC ends early. *cries* But at least the 31st is on a Sunday so I won't have to rush my thank you letters like I did last time. I only managed to write 5 letters, each around 30 words. Why am I talking about thank you letters already? It's only the first of July. Lol.

I am still getting over my encanto faze. Remember last session's #1 swamp encanto concert hall? Everyone was spamming the comments with encanto lyrics. Memories.
I have a couple of goals this session, number one is to put swc over health /j ok actually, number one is to do more dailies than I did last session. I'm also going to try to do the daily check-in when I have time. I'm honestly quite ashamed of this, but I only did 6 dailies and 1 weekly last session. In my defence though, I didn't have a holiday unlike this session B) Talking about holidays, I'm generally more active in July sessions because that's when my school has a three week break. Another goal is to complete my word goal. (wait, why is that a goal? It's literally called a word goal) And my last goal… “I, Kitty, will try my hardest this SWC session to put myself, my family, my mental health, physical health, schoolwork, and all other obligations before this camp.” (credit to Birdi for that)
This introduction about my life is turning into a super rant. But I'm done! 1000-word challenge completed. Bye

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread

☰ Cami's Mountain Tour ◭▪ Date: July 1st
▪ Total word count: Exactly 1k >:)
◭Daily #1 ☰☰ Hello and welcome to SWC! Use today to introduce yourself and get to know your cabin. SWC starts as soon as it's July in *your* timezone! When SWC has started for you, write something (anything literary!) and add it using your cabin’s word adding system to make sure you’re on top of how it all works! Please also check out this forum post for guidelines to follow throughout SWC: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/post/6391551◭
▪ Back to table of contentsCami decided that, since it was already 10:28, she should introduce herself. She started speaking. “Hellooo, I'm Cami” She smiled amiably. “I use she/her pronouns, I am a tween (between 8-12 years old), and I am cis female.” She paused for a second thinking of what to add. “I like reading, coding, writing, graphic designing, video editing, and much more!” She took a breath. “Some series, movies, and musicals I like are Hamilton, Encanto, Alexa & Katie, Lizzie McGuire (does anyone know it?) and Hannah Montana.” She took a breath. She had been talking lots. “So, I'm from the ART timezone (no joke- ART stands for ARgentina Time)” She chuckled. “And I've been in 4 (this being my fourth) sessions of SWC, 2 as a camper (July and November 2021) and 2 as a co (March and July 2022). According to a test I'm not allowed to name-” Cami stopped before she accidentally mentioned the website. “I'm an ESFP. But I have no idea how long its been since I took it, so I probably should retake it.” Cami didn't know what to say next, therefore leaving a few seconds in silence. “I know how to breathe.” She smiled in an attempt to make whoever was near her to laugh, she herself trying not to laugh at her own statement. “FEAR ME MORTALS, I CAN BREATHE!” she shouted more loudly than last time. She ignited a neon lightsaber, as Neon Horror Arcade did when it found its enemies, not trying to hurt anyone, but rather trying to make people laugh.
After a few seconds of thinking, a light bulb in relation of what to say seemed to turn on above her head. “I'm trying to write 1k words worth in intros, but I'm only at around 300.” She laughed. “I guess I'll have to keep writing - I'm just tired of doing it in roleplay format.” She realized her comment did not make much sense - however, she didn't bother to fix it. She needed to go to school. “Anyway, see you later!” She added, waving her hand.
Some time later, Cami called back. “Hey! I'm on my way to school now, but we can talk for around 30 minutes now” She smiled. “Anyway, I was gonna tell you how I found SWC. It was June 2021, and I don't remember which account I was following- but that person made the camper signups appear in my ‘What’s Happening'. Then I decided to sign up!” Cami took a breath. She felt like the words floated from her mouth, because she almost didn't notice that she needed to breath. She continued. “I remember it was June 30th 2021, a Thursday, when I received my cabin notification. I was in Mystery, so the theme was an abandoned ink factory. When I saw the curator invite - ‘You’ve been invited to curate the studio Abandoned Ink Facto…' - I thought that was a spam, until I read the greet message” She laughed. “Anywayyy…” She was trying to lengthen her word count, but she couldn't think of anything to add. She was only at 519 words. There was silence for a few minutes. “So, in how many Scratch Camps did you participate in? I have participated in three: Scratch Writing Camp; Scratch Art Camp, even though art is not my strong point, I wanted to try something new; and Scratch Reading Camp.” She was silent, once again. “I also like playing Wordle, both in English and Spanish, my native language. Also, I'll tell you something and you tell me if it's concerning…” She made a pause to hold the suspense. “Since I'm in Argentina, in real life I speak Spanish. Sometimes, when I'm talking Spanish, an English word pops out of my mouth. Or you know your inside voice, your conscience? Well, that voice now speaks English. And sometimes, I forget Spanish words… For example, the Spanish word for ‘portray’ is ‘retratar’. Once, I was talking to my sister how a book portrays a character, and I legit couldn't remember the word until I searched it up.” Cami couldn't help chuckling. “On the other hand, I almost always watch series and movies in English, with English subtitles. And I understand almost everything.” She blushed, knowing that not every kid her age could do that. “According to the CEFR test, I am a B2. And I didn't really have any classes - I do have English as a second language in school, yes, but I already know most of what they teach me there. And I've been to a few courses, but I learned most of my English vocabulary on my own. When I was younger, I would always use Google Translate. And… guess what? I have not used Google Translate in this entire dialogue. Surprise!” She smiled, not trying to brag, but rather share something interesting about her. “Alright, now I'm at 815 words. I still need 175 words…” She laughed. “I'm still kinda far…” She chuckled. “Another thing about me is that I have started a scratch series called Xorius! The series is about, well, Xorius, a robot, and a girl, called Elina. Currently I have shared the prologue and character introduction project.” Cami breathed, knowing she was almost done. “I'm even part of the Scratch Series Makers/Obsessers Cult!” She winked. “Now for my last words, cheese is supreme.” She put on an exaggeratedly serious face. “Kidding!” She laughed and winked, then changed her voice tone. “Not really kidding, heh.” She whispered, then changed her voice tone once again. “Okay, that said, I will now list other supreme things in no particular order! 1, 2, 3, go! SWC, mountain thingies, all of my scratch and real life friends, hamilchaos (that's where my user came from, heh), and YOU!” She exclaimed. “BY THE WAY, WE HAVE WASHINGTON ON OUR SIDE!” Cami shouted, referencing an inside joke. “I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M ALMOST DONE, AHH-” She added. “And now, to finish this exactly one thousand words rant, SWC forever.”

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
cd's intro! <3
warning: major lore spoilers for fnaf, mentions of fictional characters' d3@th
hiya guys! If you don't know me, this is a very long passage about the one and only CD. To make me not get bored whilst writing it as my attention span is so incredibly amazing /sar it will be split into a few sections, namely 100-word-summary, on my desk, fight me on it and questions i don't get asked
) So, without further ado, let's get into the chaotic mess that is me B))
100-WORD-SUMMARY
Hi! I'm CD! I go by they/them and am in EST timezone
) I've been reading for years and years and am still obsessed B)) Some of my favourite book fandoms are pjo, hoo, divergent, thg, warriors, kc, mbs and many more i've forgotten B)) i have wayy too many lore ideas and characters with no story B) i'm obsessed with indie games wayy too much but we'll get to that later
D i love music as well! i play basketball- technically you could say ‘internationally’ =P i'm also teaching myself to skate! i do both digital and traditional art
)
exactly 100 words! that's kind of a brief summary but there's LOADDS i missed out so here we go- onto on my desk
D
so basically, i'll be explaining whats around my personal area in my house to see if that tells you more about me
D
okay- obviously this is my computer, no way lol- video game hub, art hub and swc hub BDD currently my desk is rather messy lol but i have like 7 empty gluesticks, 4 silver pens, felt-tips, pencils and not a single working normal pen on my desk organiser B)) for background, i make stuff out of gluesticks and am kind of obsessed with grey and silver pens because EASY TRADITIONAL ART SHADING loll- i also have an empty phone case that is literally bright yellow, tape, a cactus, a rubber chicken bEcayse YAss and a collection of very old fidget toys, some of which are self-made
D wow i remember that was from like so many years ago but whatever- they're also in bowls i made and painted- one has the dsmp on it and one features sundrop
D i'm really proud of that sundrop painting! i have a window which unfortunatley is usually blinded bc videogames and not touching grass B)) i have a large collection of llama stuff because LLAMAS ARE BETTER THAN ALPACAS AHAH anyways i also have a bunch of self-made minecraft models
D minecraft is supreme <33
around my window are a bunch of old drawings, mostly of the dsmp and my warriors oc emberstrike heh. i also have cards from graduation a few years back (not school grad! i'm not that old xDD) and string art of a sunset, an ice cream, a cactus and- you guessed it- a llama xD.
in one of my desk drawers are my old notebooks (i always have a random collection of thoughts from school eheh) and my wacom tablet for art! in the other is a mess of art pens i can't be bothered to sort out xDD
in the corner there's also a cardboard tube decorated with cartoons from that era
i have a large shelf to my left filled with junk lmao- there's a ukulele + how to play guide, my favourite pens, llama minecraft legos (the perfect combination <3) and a sewing machine that i enjoy using
D i also have my collection of books that woudn't fit on my bedroom shelf such as half the warriors universe, kotlc, divergent and wings of fire- i also have a small robot and a collection of minecraft books and coding manuals
D there's also an interior design magasine and a handmade moondrop mask i'm proud of- wow, why do all my good art projects feature sundrop and moondrop? /j in my top drawer is an ABSOLUTE MESS of notebooks- i have so many but can never find the right time to start them <33- and some mha stickers B)
other assorted bits and bobs- my glasses, a wire bracelet, a spare mouse, my 2018 notebook, my english caheir, a stool and a handmade lantern
D
this isnt here yet, but i'm getting posters on the slanted celling! the main feature is a fnaf poster- the original 2014 one <3- but there'll be batim, minecraft and many many more random stuff <33
woooah that was long! i dont even know if that was helpful but i feel like a person's workspace tells you a bunch about them so i hope you enjoyed <33
without further ado, part three- fight me on it!
as you may have been able to tell, i'm very passionate about some things- here's a list of friendly battles i'll have with you over some very random stuff
D
all of this is a joke and is /lighthearted
fight me on it: cassidy is the most supreme fnaf character spirit!
just think about it- lore, being a secret character, the creepiest face ever, revenge on william unlike susie and the others and being the main (protagonist? antagonist?) of ucn <33 just saying, when your nicknames are ‘the vengeful spirit’ and 'the one should not have k!lled' you know you're a cool character B)

hiya guys! If you don't know me, this is a very long passage about the one and only CD. To make me not get bored whilst writing it as my attention span is so incredibly amazing /sar it will be split into a few sections, namely 100-word-summary, on my desk, fight me on it and questions i don't get asked
) So, without further ado, let's get into the chaotic mess that is me B))100-WORD-SUMMARY
Hi!
D i love music as well! i play basketball- technically you could say ‘internationally’ =P i'm also teaching myself to skate! i do both digital and traditional art
)exactly 100 words! that's kind of a brief summary but there's LOADDS i missed out so here we go- onto on my desk
Dso basically, i'll be explaining whats around my personal area in my house to see if that tells you more about me
Dokay- obviously this is my computer, no way lol- video game hub, art hub and swc hub BDD currently my desk is rather messy lol but i have like 7 empty gluesticks, 4 silver pens, felt-tips, pencils and not a single working normal pen on my desk organiser B)) for background, i make stuff out of gluesticks and am kind of obsessed with grey and silver pens because EASY TRADITIONAL ART SHADING loll- i also have an empty phone case that is literally bright yellow, tape, a cactus, a rubber chicken bEcayse YAss and a collection of very old fidget toys, some of which are self-made
D wow i remember that was from like so many years ago but whatever- they're also in bowls i made and painted- one has the dsmp on it and one features sundrop
D minecraft is supreme <33 around my window are a bunch of old drawings, mostly of the dsmp and my warriors oc emberstrike heh. i also have cards from graduation a few years back (not school grad! i'm not that old xDD) and string art of a sunset, an ice cream, a cactus and- you guessed it- a llama xD.
in one of my desk drawers are my old notebooks (i always have a random collection of thoughts from school eheh) and my wacom tablet for art! in the other is a mess of art pens i can't be bothered to sort out xDD
in the corner there's also a cardboard tube decorated with cartoons from that era

i have a large shelf to my left filled with junk lmao- there's a ukulele + how to play guide, my favourite pens, llama minecraft legos (the perfect combination <3) and a sewing machine that i enjoy using
D i also have my collection of books that woudn't fit on my bedroom shelf such as half the warriors universe, kotlc, divergent and wings of fire- i also have a small robot and a collection of minecraft books and coding manuals
D there's also an interior design magasine and a handmade moondrop mask i'm proud of- wow, why do all my good art projects feature sundrop and moondrop? /j in my top drawer is an ABSOLUTE MESS of notebooks- i have so many but can never find the right time to start them <33- and some mha stickers B)other assorted bits and bobs- my glasses, a wire bracelet, a spare mouse, my 2018 notebook, my english caheir, a stool and a handmade lantern
Dthis isnt here yet, but i'm getting posters on the slanted celling! the main feature is a fnaf poster- the original 2014 one <3- but there'll be batim, minecraft and many many more random stuff <33
woooah that was long! i dont even know if that was helpful but i feel like a person's workspace tells you a bunch about them so i hope you enjoyed <33
without further ado, part three- fight me on it!
as you may have been able to tell, i'm very passionate about some things- here's a list of friendly battles i'll have with you over some very random stuff
Dall of this is a joke and is /lighthearted

fight me on it: cassidy is the most supreme fnaf character spirit!
just think about it- lore, being a secret character, the creepiest face ever, revenge on william unlike susie and the others and being the main (protagonist? antagonist?) of ucn <33 just saying, when your nicknames are ‘the vengeful spirit’ and 'the one should not have k!lled' you know you're a cool character B)
fight me on it: glory and deathbringer from wof are great friends/more than friends!

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
daily 7/1/22 - 1074 words
welp, here's my life story /j
anyways, this is my introduction I guess, it's not very good though
Hihi! I'm Sophie and I'm super excited to be co-leading the amazing cabin of horror this session alongside Seltzer, Leopard, and our awesome leader Luna (not to mention our super cool honoraries)! I also can't wait to share my entire life story with whoever happens to be reading this /hj! Anyways, this is my second session of SWC - I was in thriller last session. My pronouns are she/her and I currently live in CDT, although I'll probably spend most of this month in CEST. My personality type is INFP-T, which I feel like describes me pretty well. I am a student in a city of the universe, where I am in a grade that exists. Outside of SWC, I love writing (I know, very shocking, right?), singing and playing various instruments, baking and cooking, ice skating, reading, and generally causing chaos /hj. During camp, I also picked up the hobby of bracelet-making, and now I make different types of bracelets (mostly friendship bracelets) slightly obsessively - I've made two or three already today. I usually like to write fantasy and adventure books, although I just started writing my first-ever fanfiction (not including ones I've written for SWC dailies). It's a crossover between a few different fandoms, and I'm really excited to finish writing it. I love singing any songs really, but mostly musical theatre since its so *fun*! I have also done choir at school for about four years, so that's fun, and I just started doing voice lessons. Some of my favourite musicals include Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, Dear Evan Hansen, Hadestown, and Tick, tick… boom!, but of course there are so many amazing musicals that it's nearly impossible to pick favourites. Another fun fact about me is I often choose to use British spelling for no particular reason, but sometimes I won't, which I know is entirely not grammatically correct, but I don't particularly care XD. I've played the piano on and off for probably about seven years and just restarted taking piano lessons, and I've played the guitar without any lessons for around two years. I also want to start learning the violin because it seems cool. I've always loved to bake, although I started baking a lot more in 2020, and then I started cooking because I had managed to make too many baked goods. Now I still prefer baking, but cooking's pretty nice as well. I started ice skating when I was two or three years old then quit from fifth grade to the beginning of seventh grade. After that, I started again, so I unfortunately had to re-learn some stuff, and now I'm about to start learning my axel. I love to read all genres of books, but I especially prefer mystery, action/adventure, and fantasy. Some books that I've read recently and enjoyed are In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens, Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, and Legend by Marie Lu, although I've of course read a ton of other amazing books lately as well. Now I'm reading Catching Fire, Crooked Kingdom, and Some Girls Do. I'm not entirely sure how I can further elaborate upon liking to cause chaos, although I probably should mention that, while at camp, I learned that throwing rocks is very entertaining, saw the inside of a golf ball, and managed to Rickroll the entire camp, so I suppose that counts as chaos? Maybe? To further cause slight chaos, I can list a bunch of random and unnecessary facts about myself. If I could be any animal, I would probably be a cat since I'm very antisocial but can sometimes be quite friendly. I also enjoy climbing trees but tend to get stuck and end up too afraid to climb down. So yes, I do think I would be a cat. If I could be any type of tree, I would probably be a weeping willow because yes. Apparently if I were a Heartstopper character, according to my friends I would be Elle or Isaac, which is nice
. If I were any type of road, I would probably be either an alley (as in one in between two rows of houses), a small road in the mountains, or just a regular street. If I could be any Lego set that I've seen in person, I would most likely be the Lego Friends ski lodge. I am also a self-proclaimed certified professional procrastinator. To give a small idea of how bad my procrastination is, I'll give an example of what I did today. My mom told me to try on a pair of shorts, but instead, I decided to procrastinate by watching Youtube. Then I decided to check Scratch and start writing this description of myself, but then I got tired of that (don't get mad at me), so I decided to play piano for over an hour to procrastinate on that. Then I went back to writing this to procrastinate on playing the piano. I'm also writing this to procrastinate on all the chores I'm /supposed/ to be doing but instead decided to politely ignore. Luckily though, I usually tend to not procrastinate too much on SWC-related stuff, including story-writing for SWC since I'm usually doing that to procrastinate on other stuff, especially during the school year. Last session, since I had a ton of homework, I would just write more for SWC so I could justify my procrastination. I also love to learn languages, although *spoiler alert* I'm not very good at it. I would say I'm pretty much fluent in French, and I can probably have a very basic conversation in Spanish. I could also introduce myself a bit in Italian and German, but not much more than that. Strangely enough, I happen to be able to understand a few random scattered words in Latin, but that's about it. I want to get better at Spanish, Italian, German, and Latin, and also to learn Japanese, Arabic, Russian, and Chinese (yes, I know that's a lot, but isn't it so fun to set impossible goals for yourself?). I'm also a huge space nerd and love learning about anything space-related.
Anyways, that's probably enough introduction for now!

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
July 1 daily
introductions - caution: mine is long, rambly, random, and disorganized.
1105 words
Hello! I’m Kit, I go by she/her, and I’m co-leading Thriller this session with Birdi and Moonlit (THRILLER FOR THE WIN). I’m homeschooled, so I have plenty of time for reading and writing.
When I was little, I loved writing stories, but then I mostly stopped for a while. Then came the quarantine, and with it, a lack of… well, doing anything. So in April 2020, I started a story. It was a sort of fairy tale parody inspired by something my then-2-year-old sister said. I’ve since started several more stories (although admittedly, most of them remain unfinished), the longest of which is currently sitting at 6 chapters. Most, if not all, of them are fantasy- I pretty much only write fantasy.
I joined Scratch in August 2021, and in September, I found out about SWC. I stumbled across old promo or something, which linked me to an old FAQ. After some more searching, I found a studio, which told me when and where the camper signups would be released. That session, November 2021, I was in Adventure, led by Pika, Pandora and Vivi (and of course there was our iconic mascot Monty the goat). It was amazing, and I returned for March 2022, this time being sorted into Fan-fi, led by the Lukaties (Luna and Katie) and Andy. This is my third session, and my first one as co-leader- so excited for this month!
When I’m not reading, writing, or messing around on Scratch, I also like drawing. I make art both traditionally and using the Scratch Vector editor. Lately it’s mostly been traditional art, and mostly Encanto fanart, since I remain obsessed with Encanto (WE DON’T TALK ABOUT BRUNOOO).
I also recently discovered Wicked, so now I’m obsessing over that, too (I’M DEFYYYING GRAVITY-). Honestly, the Wicked and Encanto soundtracks make up a decent chunk of my Spotify playlist (as I write this, “Popular” is playing)- alongside the Frozen soundtrack and The Linda Lindas. (Please check out The Linda Lindas, they’re a really cool band.)
I have loads of other fandoms, too, the main ones being She-Ra and The Princesses of Power, Percy Jackson, Lemony Snicket, Welcome To Night Vale, and Harry Potter. When I was seven, my parents got me Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, and I was not interested. They convinced me to try the first chapter, though, and naturally I couldn’t stop there. The first three books were some of the first novels I read on my own.
Obviously, I’ve read many more books since then. I have too many favorites to list here, but I have to recommend Anne Ursu. Especially her books The Real Boy, The Lost Girl, and The Troubled Girls of Dragomir Academy. All three are amazing middle-grade fantasy novels, and seriously, they’re very near perfection.
But this is supposed to be about me, not about how amazing Anne Ursu’s books are. But it’s hard to talk about myself for very long without going off on a tangent about how great some book or movie or show or band or whatever is.
Ah, but those aren’t the only things I’m obsessed with! I also have a passion for history- mostly very specific pockets of history. A few years ago I had a long ancient Egypt phase (I still love ancient Egypt), and more recently, I got into the wives of Henry VIII. It was because of Six the Musical, which I didn’t even especially like- I just wanted to fact-check it, and I happened to have a big nonfiction book (creatively titled The Wives of Henry VIII) that my aunt had apparently thought would be a good Christmas present. So I read the book, and now I know more than anyone ever needed to know about the wives of Henry VIII, and whenever I hear Don’t Lose Ur Head I have to resist going, “aCtUaLlY, Anne Boleyn didn’t-” ahaha.
And mythology. I only really know Egyptian, Greek and Norse myths, but I’m meaning to get into other world mythologies as well.
And then there’s all the other random, occasionally-related topics. I watch YouTube shows on historical fashion (Bernadette Banner), literature (It’s Lit!), language (Otherwords), monsters (Monstrum), prehistory (PBS Eons), and general science stuff (Be Smart). Like seriously, that’s all I watch on YouTube. Besides song videos. And song videos in other languages. Including Into The Unknown in Middle English. I, uh, have interesting taste in YouTube videos.
Another thing about me? I’m trying to write a 1000-word intro. Which is why this is so long and rambly. I wrote a 1000+ word intro last session, and it also ended up very rambly. I can write about myself for 1000 words, sure, but it’s hard to keep it well-done and on-point. And here I am, going off on another tangent. If anyone reads this whole introduction through to the end, I’m impressed.
Oh- despite all of this, I’ve forgotten to mention my age. I’m 12 years old, turning 13 in August. I’m the oldest of three, my sisters being 4 and 9. The 9-year-old is Ayla (@FairyAyla), and she’s in SWC too!
Besides SWC, I mainly use Scratch for art and animation, and coding the occasional game. I’m not an amazing animator, but I’m… working on it? I’ve mostly just animated a walk cycle and a few MAP parts. The Scratch Vector Editor is the only decent digital art software I have at the moment, but I’m hoping to get a better program and a stylus soonish. I already have a few rough animatics in mind… (Mostly Encanto-related animatics. Because, you know, I’m thoroughly obsessed.)
I used to be more involved in the wider Scratch community (plus one Harry Potter fanclub), but then I found SWC, and I decided that was my home. Forget the rest of the site, this was what mattered. This is an epic, fun, chaotic community of writers, and I was happy. I used to be part of another online community, the New Moon Girls Members website, which tragically shut down in January 2021. On NMG, we roleplayed, debated politics and fandoms, shared art and stories, screamed about bread and glow clouds. And I loved it. There was nothing on Scratch that felt quite like it. But SWC… well, SWC isn’t NMG. But it’s just about as great. It’s the first place online since the New Moon Girls community that felt like a home to me. I love it, and I hope everyone else this month loves it too.
Have an amazing session, whoever you are, and may the best cabin win! (The best cabin being Thriller, of course. /lh /hj)

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
Introduction <3
July 1st, 2022
2022 words (this may or may not have been purposeful)
Birdi stumbles into the video room nervously. Then, seeing the bright and cheerful atmosphere, she relaxes and settles in an armchair with her name embroidered across the top. It could be referred to as a throne, but something just feels wrong about calling it that. It’s too cozy and inviting to share the connotations of such a cold word as ‘throne’. She uses her forearm to wipe already-forming beads of sweat off her forehead and then angles herself toward the IntroCam, trying to get into a comfortable position. She crosses her legs and crosses her arms, then decides not to cross her arms after the thought that it might make her look unwelcoming.
“Hi. I’m Birdi.”
She has already defaulted back to crossing her arms. She doesn’t realize it though.
“I’m really not very good in front of cameras –” she gives a light laugh, “– but I figure you all deserve to know a bit about me, and it’s oh so tiring introducing myself to every person who says hi. So, here’s my hello. Um, yeah. Okay, what’s next?” She peers off screen, giving a pointed glance at the camper behind the camera.
The camper in question raises their eyebrows at her. What? they mouth.
“Um, I thought you were supposed to ask me questions.” Birdi whispers loudly.
That isn’t the point, but I can if you want, they whisper.
“What?” Birdi whispers even louder and after a sigh and a repeat of the words, she nods vigorously. “Yes, please do!”
“Okay, uh, how many sessions have you been doing SWC?” asks the camper.
“Oh! Well, let’s see.” She uncrosses her arms again, holds up a hand and counts as she goes. “My first session was November 2019, I think that was Real-Fi, I was a camper. Then I skipped March 2020 because I took a hiatus, co-led for Thriller (she does jazz hands) for July 2020. That session was pretty cool. Then I had my first leading role in November 2020, Poetry. Then I led again in March 2021, Dystopian – that session was iconic. Then I was accepted to become a host, so I hosted for all the sessions after that. I led a cabin again in July 2021, Fairy Tales – that session was the most iconic. My sixth session was co-leading again for Fairy Tales in November 2021, then co-leading for Mystery in March 2022, and now finally leading Thriller in July 2022. It’s been a crazy ride. So that’s seven sessions – this is my eighth!”
The camper nods with respect. “So you’re an SWC veteran?”
Birdi grins. “Well, I’ve only been around for half of it, but sure, I suppose you could say that.”
“Okay, um. What. . . do you, uh, like to do?”
“SWC!” she says instantly. “And, well, outside of writing, I love photography, reading and spending time with friends. I also hold a very deep love for Raconteur, which is a writing game. But ultimately, yeah, SWC is really great. Oh, I also really enjoy video editing. I love making videos for friends’ birthdays and special occasions and it is so worth it when I get to see the smiles on their faces.”
The camper fidgets a little bit. “I see, I see. What is your favorite. . . color?”
“Green.” Birdi says instantly. “Because nature.” Then she laughs. “My explanations are so detailed.”
“Okay, and what’s your favorite animal?” the camper continues, slightly encouraged.
“Birds! Any kind of bird! I do love resplendent quetzals and robins in particular though. Shoutout to Robin, wherever they are.” Birdi says, an enthusiastic gleam in her eyes.
“What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?”
Birdi pulls out her cell phone. “I have to take a look at my Spotify for that. I listen to so much, you wouldn’t believe it. I very recently got the three-month free premium though so that’s nice. So let’s see. . . I really like the reimagined ‘Pop Goes Classical’ playlist because I can focus really well with classical music and yet I still prefer the melodies and beats of pop music, so when they’re combined it’s just perfect. Oh, here’s Lindsey Stirling – she’s one of my favorite artists. Musicals are also great, including Hamilton and Six, though I really need to watch more at some point. I’m pretty picky about music but I still enjoy it.”
“I’ll have to look up that playlist,” the camper says. “What fandoms are you a part of?”
“My three favorite fandoms ever are all things that were recommended to me by friends! The first is Merlin (the Netflix show), which Bakie recommended last year, and I loved it. Would highly recommend. The second is all things Marissa Meyer, who I slowly got into after my friend Mira – MiraculousLover05 – expressed a love of her books. Her books are absolutely incredible. The storyline of each series is just precious. And the final one is Marvel. This one’s kind of funny. Last July my friend sent me a list of 26 Marvel shows I had to watch, and I watched a few and got hooked, then binge-watched them through the entirety of the summer. I’ve been following Marvel closely, closer than that friend, actually, ever since. Thor: Love and Thunder comes out on the 8th of July so I’m very excited. Ms. Marvel is also premiering on Disney+, with the lead of Iman Vellani, who I think is a very inspirational person and a great actress. Anyone reading this, if you aren’t already a Marvel fan, I’ll just say that you are missing out.”
“I love Marvel too!” says the camper. Birdi gives an enthusiastic double thumbs up. “Okay, next up, what’s your favorite thing about hosting SWC?”
“Oh, that’s hard. Um, it might be just getting to facilitate this experience that makes so many people happy and puts a smile on so many faces throughout the world. I really like seeing people brought together through common interests, and SWC does that so well. I am very honored, even at this point, to be able to be a host of this wonderful camp and I hope everyone knows that they are part of the positive force that makes it so wonderful and fun to work with.”
The camper seems to be growing more confident. “What’s your favorite SWC memory?”
Birdi tilts her head. “Honestly, I don’t even know, there are so many good ones. My favorite might be, um, the Dystopian cabin bl00ket of March 2021? That really brought us all together and made me feel really good. And then there was, of course, the Fairy Tales group and the whole thing with Custard-loving Hufflepuffs. And when everyone spammed the lyrics from ‘We Don’t Talk About Cabin Wars’ in the second cabin wars of March 2022!”
“That’s cool!” says the camper, nodding. At this point they seem to be enjoying the more active role in the interview. “How do you think things are looking for this session?”
“I think things are looking absolutely great.” Birdi does a little dance in her armchair, beaming. “Everyone’s so active and sweet and the excitement just never really goes away. I’m very excited for the first daily with points.” She brings up the Thriller cabin on her laptop and proudly displays how active her campers are. “I also am excited to get back into writing, I really need the boost and the motivation.” She laughs sheepishly, also showcasing how she’s done virtually no writing (except some journaling) since the last SWC session.
The camper nods along. “Is there anything you’re willing to tell me about your family?”
Birdi smiles. “I have a great family. I’m an only child, so it’s me and my parents, plus my three lovely chickens, who are the sweetest chickens in the world. Besides Robin’s, maybe. Did you know Robin also has chickens? They’re all very cool. You should go see the pictures she has.”
A gleam lights up in the camper’s eyes – they have an idea. “Speaking of Robin, what’s your one favorite thing about each of the other hosts and gHosts?”
“That’s such a sweet question!” Birdi says approvingly. “You’re getting the hang of this. I love questions like these. Okay, let’s go in order then. I’ll start with Icy. Icy is really just very chill –” she breaks into a laugh. “Pun not intended. And she’s always been very kind and dedicated to SWC. Sini is very grounded, is basically always there to tell us whatever we’re missing, and she still gives input at this point of time even though she doesn’t host anymore. Li is very talented and very bright and kind. Alba is so talented and such a nice person to practically everyone. Kat is always really open to making changes for the betterment of SWC, not to mention being extremely smart and full of spreadsheet know-how, as are Sawyer and Robin. Sawyer is very sharp and perceptive and sees the facets of things that other people might look over. Bakie is so bright and cheerful that she brings an almost palpable burst of sunshine to any conversation she’s a part of. Robin is also really smart as well as very sweet and dedicated, not to mention an incredible leader.”
Birdi takes a few deep breaths, but when the camper shows signs of wanting to ask another question, she holds up a hand. “I’m not done yet. I’m also going to include honorary hosts because they also contribute so much. Evi, Starr and Cara are all very nice people who have such solid and meaningful contributions whenever we’re discussing anything. They’re all so very talented as well.”
“Riiight.” says the camper. “You had a field day with that. I asked you for your one favorite thing.”
“Oops.” Birdi says with an unrepentant expression.
“Since you seemed to like that so much, here’s the next one. What’s your favorite thing about your co-leaders?”
The SWC host stretches her arms and then rubs her hands together. “Co-leaders! This should be fun.”
“Oh, and only ONE thing this time –” but the camper is too late. Birdi has already gone off on a whirlwind of compliments.
“Both of my co-leaders are creative, imaginative, very talented and very interactive with the campers. They are both so eager to help out as well and I’m very proud that I chose them – I couldn’t have asked for a better team this session. They really just do so much work for our cabin, practically as much as I do, and I couldn’t thank them enough, though I guess I will have to do my best in my thank you notes at the end of this session.”
“And finally, the last question – why did you decide to write a two thousand word intro today?”
Birdi side-eyes the camper, evidently not expecting this question, but she goes along with it anyway. “Because I had time. And because why not, right? If you want to do something, go for it! Pursue your dreams!” Her forehead crinkles and she adds an afterthought: “So long as it’s healthy, of course. I mean, if you want to pull an all-nighter, I would strongly advise against that. Now you come over here, I want to thank people for watching and this introductory video won’t be complete without the people seeing you too.”
Despite being slightly surprised, the camper gets up, waves at the camera, and in unison, Birdi and the camper say, “Thanks for watching!”
The camper goes back to the camera and switches it off. Birdi finally gets up from the armchair, groaning about how her leg has fallen asleep. “Well, off you go to your cabin now. I can do the video editing.”
The camper is very surprised. “Really? I mean, I signed up to do the whole thing –”
“No, no, I’m not feeling tyrannical today. Go along and have fun. Thanks for being my interviewer today.”
“Well, okay then. See you around, Birdi.” says the camper, waving, and then skips off to their cabin.
“See you!” waves Birdi. “This was lots of fun. Thank you to everyone who actually reads this.”

Hey, I'm Jia! This is my- wait, lemme check- 5th session of SWC, and I'm so excited to be joining Mystery for the 2nd time :D I've been in Fantasy, Mystery, Sci-Fi, and Non-Fi in the past 4 sessions, and I've been a co-leader for the past 2, making this my 3rd time as a co-leader. This session has brought many changes- changes in leadership (congrats to robin!), in things to be done (a newspaper :0), and for Mystery, many different activities to work on.
If you couldn't tell already, I love crocheting, from the chain to the cables, and from the yarn to the hook of things. Recently I've been more into making clothes (I finished a cardigan sweater a month ago!), but I still love designing the super-cute amigurumi- that is, if I have enough money to get the yarn that I constantly want need. As of now, I am working on several crochet projects, but those have been slowed by SWC and recent life events.
This is summer I've also started upping my Rubik's Cube game, dwindling my personal best to around 40 seconds, semi-using the CFOP method (yes, yes, I know, I haven't put much effort into learning all of the F2Ls, but I'm working on it- that may or may not have been a lie), and watching many videos on YouTube, and sliding down the rabbit hole into-
K-Pop videos muhahahah- my ults (not going into the other groups o-o) are SKZ and BTS, in which my biases (I'm also not getting into bias wreakers) are Lee Know and V, the quiet and savage masters they are. As of the day, I'm also simply just deep into watching YouTube videos with my headphones on, on my iPad because my family doesn't have a TV and I don't have a phone. But you'll find me watching K-Pop, CRK, crochet, cubing and art videos any day of the week, really.
I haven't been songwriting a ton, but it is for sure one of my hobbies, along with general music, mostly singing, but uke, guitar, and piano involved. Actually, this month I have to do a session to move up to the Chamber Choir of the choir that I'm in, so I've been sort of practicing? Heh, I've mostly been coding and avoiding social contact with my family that I've been forced to meet recently. I've been very into trending songs, but I love just listening to KLOVE on the radio while I'm reading, doing art, or crocheting on the couch the multi-tasker that I am xD
Even though June was officially SAC month, I've taken to realism recently, and I'm aiming to finish a leopard and an entry into Ayelle's DTIYS, as well as art for upcoming games and a bunch of pixel art so I can possibly keep on posting on Pixilart- fingers crossed I actually get things done this month lol.
Some of my other hobbies include Scratch-ing, in which I've delayed my comeback into the mall simulator world (I'm sorry SS, PoP and CE-), sharing tutorials, art and other *cough* things.
I'm also very into photography- I recently got a new lightbox for when I finally decide to start my crochet business and actually get income for what I spend on yarn (jk, I buy yarn w/ my own money so I'm always broke-) and I switched back to my old camera because the new one was not focusing (just. focus. and. auto. brighten. correctly.), sadly.
Sooooo, I've ranted on about myself for quite a while now hehe, thanks for reading if you got this far~

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
Intro
Hi! You can call me Zodiac, or by my username (@Zodiacdog). I actually realized my love for writing only when I joined SWC! Other than SWC, I mainly make stories in my head, and then maybe put them to life later. I’m not too sure if other people do the same thing. I also LOVE animals, mainly canines and felines (the dog family and the cat family). I also am addicted to books, reading them by the hour, sneaking-reading when my parents say I have to do my chores. I think that’s how I got my love for writing. I like Warriors, WoF (Wings of Fire), Choose your own story, and of course, as a writer from Mystery, Nancy Drew. I’m okay with any pronouns, so call me what you want. My timezone is EST. And this is my second session of SWC!!

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
Daily #1 : introduction
Total words: 191 words
Hello! I’m Summer, and I’m super excited to be participating in SWC in the cabin Hi-Fi this month! I have participated in 2 SWC sessions previous to this one, the first (November 2021) I was in Contemporary and the second (March 2022) I was in Mythology. What I love about SWC is that it’s not just an online camp to improve your writing, it’s also an opportunity to meet new people and also have fun being chaotic and staying up late writing as much as you can until your fingers fall off ;D
Aside from writing, in my free time I love to read, draw, paint and play video games. Some books I read recently are the 4th book in the Harry Potter series and Smile by Raina (I’m going to spell this wrong) Telgemier xD. I’m really good at drawing and painting people and landscapes, but I absolutely cannot draw animals xD (don’t try to get me to draw a horse, it’ll end up looking like an elephant or a butterfly or anything but a horse). My favourite video games are Roblox, google games, and rando apps I downloaded on my dad’s phone. xD

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
Hi, I’m Cae and this is an introduction! Wow, I am so clever with that opener. Like I said I already introduced myself once today but that was before I realized that we were doing 1000 word introductions. I’m going to see if I can do this in 20 minutes. I’m off to a great start in terms of procrastinating this summer.
I’m a 16 year old high school student. I obviously enjoy reading and writing but surprisingly I’m also a strong math student. I’ll be going into AP Calculus BC as a junior this coming year! I go to a catholic school but I am not catholic so that is sometimes a little awkward. However, I love getting exposed to different world views.
I am a musician as many of you are. When I was six years old I started taking piano lessons. I have been doing it ever since and I love performing, especially with others. I currently play piano in my high school’s jazz band. In 6th grade I started playing the alto saxophone for band class. My school’s band class required you to do percussion or a wind instrument so I knew I had to pick up another instrument. I went with the alto saxophone because it looked the coolest but I do not regret my decision at all. This year I recently branched out and started playing tenor sax at the request of my band director. It is still very fun but sometimes I miss playing the melody. About two years ago I decided I wanted to play a string instrument but my individuality complex decided the guitar was too common. As a result I am now a practicing banjo player despite literally living in New England, not the South.
Gosh, I went off on a tangent about music. It’s like I have no other hobbies or something. At least I’m getting words I guess. Next is games. I currently play one sport, tennis. I played on my school's junior varsity team this year but hope to make varsity next school year. I also enjoy a few video games. I am a long time Minecraft player who knows way too much about the game. I recently picked up Stardew Valley and am loving it. I also play Animal Crossing and Roblox.
Let’s try some Scratch related information now. This is my 8th session of SWC. I would list all my old cabins but I think it would take me too long to find all of them and as you’re aware I’m working with a time constraint. This session is my first session as a leader and I could not be more thrilled. I usually only log into Scratch for SWC so it was a weird coincidence when I happened to log on in May this year and saw that leader apps were still open. I almost didn’t make one but my curiosity got the best of me and I applied. I was so thrilled to be chosen as a leader and it has been an incredible experience so far.
I have two amazing cos who have been the most amazing cos I ever could’ve asked for. Rea is so thorough with all that she does and I never have to worry about her slacking off. She has a very impressive work ethic and incredible new ideas as well as problem solving skills. Juli is an amazing visual designer. Everything they have their hands on is absolutely stunning. She is also incredibly kind and great at communicating with our campers.
I am really cutting it close now with only 10 minutes left and a little over halfway done. This is unfortunately not uncommon for me. If any of you paid attention to the times I added dailies and weeklies last session I’m sure this is entirely unsurprising. I have a lot of work to balance this summer so I really do need to work on my procrastination. To take the math class I want to take I’m teaching myself three units of math work over the summer in addition to a twelve page packet. I also have to read 6 books and write 4 essays because I’m going into AP English. I’m hoping to get all 4 800 word essays done this month because SWC is one of the biggest inspirations for me to write.
In addition to my school work I have another project I’m working on during this month. I’ve had a story in mind for awhile and I’ve written 3000 words of it in the form of a script. I tried writing it as a script because I hate formatting dialogue so I thought it would be convenient for a first draft. I’ve changed my mind and I’m now going to start writing the whole story out as a novel. I have the whole plot mapped out in my head. I’m going to start with a chapter by chapter summary and then turn those chapter summaries into actual chapters. I am also changing the main character because I realized my previous main character fell into more of a supporting character role. My new main character is an entirely new addition and I’m still working on how she is going to fit into the story.
Four minutes now and only 100 more words. I suppose I’ll end this with a conclusion of sorts. I really hope I have enough time to put this into the forums from my google doc and share the link. I am so excited to get to know you all better throughout the course of this camp. I hope this camp can be to you guys what it has always been for me. I can’t wait to see the next daily. Maybe I’ll write to dailies back to back, that would be pretty cute. I am really pushing this out for words now, so sorry about that. I love you guys so much. Let me know if anyone actually read all this, I do not blame you if you don’t.

(397 Words)
Hello everyone! My name is Piper and I am one of the Co-Leaders of Script this session! I’m so excited to be a part of the team leading the brand new cabin! (Which by the way is the best cabin and we’re definitely going to win this session!)
Now to tell you all a little bit about me! As you know, my name is Piper and I use She/Her pronouns! I’ve been writing for basically as long as I can remember and I’ve loved writing and reading ever since I was little and as I’ve gotten older I have in no way lost that passion for writing and reading, hence why I’m here doing this camp! I’ve been homeschooled my entire life and am Chirstian
Along with writing, I also am a huge musical theatre nerd and have been performing since 2017! In December last year I joined a new theatre company after my old one had to close because of COVID and never reopened, and I’ve done two full length shows and several camps and showcase performances. The two full length shows I did were Matilda and Annie, in Matilda I played Miss Trunchbull which is probably one of the roles that I’ve had the most fun playing since I got to explore acting as a villain instead of the kind characters that I was used to playing. In Annie I played Grace Farrell, very different from Miss Trunchbull, but also so much fun to play. While playing Miss Trunchbull grew my acting ability, playing Grace definitely did more for expanding my vocals as that was when I learned that I had the range of a soprano in my head voice, which has been really fun for me to work on as I’ve played that role and even afterwards! I’ve loved being able to expand my vocal range through that character as well as some that I’ve played in camps and showcases!
Some of my favorite musicals include “In The Heights” “Dear Evan Hansen” and “Annie” among many others that I can’t name because there are so many that I love and my favorite is really always changing so I can never pick just one.
I also participate in Girl Scouts through which I do a lot of community service and meet a lot of new friends!
I hope you enjoyed reading all about me!

Will I get transported to a fantasy world?
“As I see it, yes.”
It was a normal day for him—a boring one, even. He was walking home from school, backpack slung over one shoulder, barely paying attention to the world.
And so I decided to give him a new world. There's nothing like a fantasy realm to cheer you up!
However, the boy didn't notice as the sky warped around him, changing. Empty white to enveloping black to green to klurion to plump plum purple, before settling on a… light blue? With whitish gray clouds hovering in it? A bird flaps by—the same bird, I realize, as was there before.
The change didn't work.
The boy kept trudging along, sandals slapping against that same chalk-covered sidewalk, eyes fixed on nothing.
I try again. Changing the landscape, this time. The trees lining the lane flicker, turning from tall oaks to cotton candy colored bushes, from ten foot fronds of grass to robotic sunflowers, their stalks buzzing with unnatural energy, from neon stalks to… back to the oaks? Ugh.
The boy continues down the road, oblivious to the world changing around him.
“Hey!” I yell from my perch atop a roof, but alas, my words can't break the barrier between our realms.
Wait. That gives me an idea.
I focus hard, attempting the task that every being in my world needs years to master. Luckily, I've had those years, and more. Squeezing my eyes shut, clenching my fists until my purple nails dig into my palms, I try.
The worlds collide with a soft pop. He doesn't notice. Of course he doesn't. Our worlds are the same, on the outside. And the outside is about how far he cares to look.
“Hey!” I shout again, waving frantically at the boy as he passes me by.
He deigns to look up. To scoff at me. “What're you doing on the roof, man?”
It's barely a question. Just his thoughts, barely considered before they were spilled out to the world.
“I was looking for you.”
He startles at that, and I chuckle.
He doesn't respond, just quickens his pace, walks right past me.
I slip off the roof—it's a low one, don't worry, and my bones are stronger than yours.
He doesn't look back.
“So much for trying to entertain you!” I yell at his receding back.
No answer. All that work, all that focus, for nothing?
“You're in another realm, y'know,” I say.
My voice was quiet, almost a whisper, really, but he spins. Faces me.
“What did you say?” An eyebrow raises. One of my own matches it.
“I said,” I begin. Consider. “I said this is a different world.”
It's against the rules, here, but telling people is always good fun. And something in me is telling me that this kid won't believe it.
He scoffs. “Whatever, man.”
He turns and walks away, pushing his backpack back onto his shoulder, tilting his head back towards the ground, oblivious.

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
-ˏˋ Day 1 Daily ˎˊ-
Hi there! I'm Betty, I go by she/her or whatever you feel most comfortable with! I'm in high school, I'm a Sagittarius, Gryffindor, and INFP. I'm also a bit of an introvert which is perfect for someone who also enjoys being chronically online (~˘▾˘)~ I've done SWC for a number of years now but I haven't participated in a WHILE so here I am! This year I'm in Myth (as you may be able to tell by the profile picture). In previous years I've been in multiple horror cabins and I think a dystopian cabin at some point… it's all a pandemonium of typing, but a sweet one nonetheless!
Some of my interests on a large scale are writing, reading, art, music, and film. On a much more messy, more branched out scale I love TV shows (especially Netflix ones) and will talk your ear off about them- trust me. Some of my favorite tv shows are Stranger Things, Steven Universe, and Heartstopper! I'm currently watching Only Murders in the Building, Love Victor, and of course, Stranger Things (AHHH!). Some of my favorite movies are Little Women (2019), Roman Holiday, Emma (2020), Spiderman No Way Home, Spiderman Homecoming, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Some of my favorite musicians/artists are Dodie, The Aubreys, Matt Maltese, Phoebe Bridgers, and Molly Payton! I also like reading but I haven't been very consistent/motivated to do so so I won't act like I know too many books haha… Anyways I get obsessed with new things VERY regularly and I love to chat about them (or rather rant about them) so feel free to say hello!
Now although this kind of goes with the last paragraph I guess I should introduce some of my hobbies as well! I do art pretty regularly, even if they're not full-blown pieces. I prefer digital art and was able to get procreate last Christmas which is SO COOL. I also dabble in editing, mostly of TV shows and films, whether it be of a character, a ship, or the whole schmear! I also just write a lot lol maybe because I'm able to think about what I want to say and it just comes naturally, idk it's nice <3
I guess that's all I need to say… I'm super excited to be a part of SWC again and expect to type furiously with the lot of you ♡

July 2022 SWC Writing Megathread
daily (for main cabin)
JULY 1ST :O
for my prompt, i asked the 8 ball if i’ll go to sleep at a normal time tonight, and it said ‘don’t count on it’ LOL
word count: 476
-
I trudged up the stairs to my room, dragging my feet and already yawning. I had spent almost the whole day at my friend’s house, swimming in their neighborhood pool and playing games in their room. It was 10pm and I had only just gotten home; so I was thoroughly exhausted. I swung my door open, shrugging my jacket off and throwing the door closed behind me as I jumped into bed. Grabbing my phone from my sweatpants pocket, I grabbed my blanket and pulled it over my legs, getting comfortable in my bed as I opened my phone up.
Around 11pm, I heard a small voice in the back of my head saying that I should probably go to sleep. Quickly overruling that thought, I told myself that I would go to sleep in an hour or two. I usually had an internal battle with myself around this time; I knew that getting eight to ten hours of sleep would be good for me, but the other side of me said that I would be fine with just four. And, usually, I was working fine on four hours of sleep, even on school days. Being fifteen with a heck ton of homework and other responsibilities, I was constantly stressed trying to balance it all out, and would usually just throw it all aside and spend hours on my phone.
Thoughts would quickly come and go in my brain; thoughts like: Hey, Lily got a car for her sixteenth birthday. Sen and Ean got back together, and my best friend Lucas says that it’s for the better. Oh, and wow, NJ got her hair done again at some fancy salon. I’m not really surprised, but there’s Andreas going off in her comments again saying how beautiful she is.
I glanced at the corner of my phone, reading the time: 12:00. Already? My phone buzzed with a new notification, and I opened it up. It was from a group chat with my friends; we were planning to all go to somebody’s pool this Sunday. I couldn’t wait; it was days like those, hanging out with my friends, that I really looked forward to the most. I could also get away from my family, who I was already on thin ice with.
An hour or so passed, and I checked the time again. 1:00, it read. Yawning, I set my phone down. I then got a bizarre thought; I could go to sleep before 3am. Who, me? I smiled to myself, then proceeded to turn my lights off, turn off my phone and then plug it into the charger. It was an odd thing to be proud of; going to sleep at a regular, healthy time. I laughed internally, then laid down in bed, got comfortable, then closed my eyes. Almost immediately, I was fast asleep.

So, I asked the magic 8 ball “Should I write fanfiction” and the answer was “Yes definitely” This is a Newsies fanfiction
Piper was walking to the circulation center after meeting up with Davey and Les a little bit of the ways there. They were talking and laughing as they were walking, everything had been going fairly well lately and nothing extreme had been happening which Piper was extremely grateful for, it was always stressful for her when she had to handle things like the boys getting injured because they had done something they weren't supposed to be doing or something similar to that.
The girl got there a bit later than usually did since Piper had stopped to meet up with the two boys and when they arrived they headline had already been put up on the board but Piper didn't really look at it at first. She was distracted by the horrified looks of the boys around her. She went over to Race to try and find out what happened.
“Race,” She asked “What's going on? Why does everyone look so scared?” She asked. Even Race looked a bit shook up, which wasn't normal for him at all, he barely ever looked scared like this. He didn't answer at first but after a moment he looked back at her
“Just read the headline.” He answered simply
“Are you serious? The headline can't be that ba-” She trailed off as she scanned the headline that had been put up.
WARDEN SNYDER RELEASED FROM PRISON
“No.. No that… That can't be right…” She said, unable to look away from the headline. It kept repeating over and over again in her head. There was no way Snyder could possibly have been released. That would mean that he was back and that.. That he would be able to come and find her again.
She took a step backward, trying to calm herself down. She ran into Davey as she walked backwards and she whipped around quickly, completely on edge after seeing the headline.
“Piper, Piper calm down.” He said quickly, putting a hand on her shoulder. “It's okay… It's gonna be alright.” Piper breathed deeply to calm down and she nodded slightly, looking down at the ground, unable to look up at the headline anymore.
She heard someone come over towards them and she looked up, seeing Jack standing in front of her.
“What's wrong Pipes?” Her brother asked, noticing her expression.
“I… I.. Look..” She muttered, nodding over towards where the headline had been written. Jack looked over and she watched as he read the headline. She saw his face drop as he read it. He looked back at her worriedly
“I.. It… Alright it's… It's gonna be alright..” He said, obviously trying to come up with something to do about this. “We just have to be more careful now.. It'll be like before.” Piper could tell that he was barely believing what he was saying and that he was just as worried as everybody else was. She didn't know what they were going to be able to do other than keep an eye out and try not to attract attention to themselves.
“Yeah… Like before..” She muttered, trying to be as positive as she could.
Looking around, she saw several of the young boys looking confused and talking to the others to figure out what was going on. It was then she realized that barely any of them had heard much about Snyder or knew what he had done to them in the past. None of the older ones ever really talked about what had happened to them in the refuge because frankly it was much too painful for any of them to talk about. Piper had hoped that none of the little kids would ever have to worry about this, but apparently there was nothing they could do about it now.

I asked the magic 8 ball shall I write an undertale fanfic and it said “it is certain” so here goes!!
(PFFT PLS IGNORE THE GRAMMAR MISTAKES AA)
I walk into a large classy restaurant with my girlfriend Alphys. I look around and let the memories sink in, the memories of the last time I'd been here, the dinner that had changed my life for the better. A year ago today I had asked Alphys out on a date here. She was the nerdy smart kid that was constantly bullied and forced to do all the dumb football jock's homework. I had been the pretty popular girl that never had to do anything without a friend. We were put together as lab partners during our last year of highschool and something about her just made me not the same.
I myself have a nerdy side that I hide from everyone else. I love science and chemistry and experimenting with things, though of course I never told anyone that. Science was actually the only class Alphys wasn't the top in, that spot was mine. I always joked that it was just luck and that I didn't even care, but it felt to me how it felt for other girls when they were crowned as prom queens. Though whenever I worked with Alphys I always managed to screw something up and surprisingly she messed up our work up a lot too.
Near the end of the school year prom neared and that meant finding a date, but that was one of my other secrets. In the past I'd always just asked a random boy who didn't look like they'd ruin my reputation to the dance and just never spoken to them again afterwards, but the truth was that I didn't like boys at all. I like girls and it seemed as if I'd fallen for my lab partner. I desperately wanted to ask her to go with me, but I was horrified by the thought that she might reject me. Boys never rejected me, but I wasn't sure it would be the same with girls. Besides I'd never asked someone whom I actually liked out before and I wasn't even sure if I was ready for it.
It was our last day as lab partners and I thought it's either now or never and have to go with some dumb boy. I calmed myself down and looked Alphys in the eye. I sucked a large breath in and attempted to speak.
“So.. I uh… you're really… I mean… ugh im an idiot, would you want to… I mean would you be okay with…” Before I could finish (assuming I ever would) Alphys interrupted me by saying
“Do you want to go to prom with me?” I looked up at her. Her cheeks were red and she looked nervous, but she gave me a wide smile when I said “Yes that's what I've always wanted well not always, but like every since… you know what I'm bad at this.” She laughed and then looked at the ground and said quietly
“Why do you hang out with them?. The other poplar girls your not like them. Your, well… your like me.” I wasn't sure if I was ready to tell her my secret, but I guess I didn't really have a choice.
“I guess I was afraid of not having any friends, of being alone, but now I have you and i'm realizing that that was the biggest mistake I'd ever made.”
An hour before prom I drive over to my date's house to pick her up. I wait outside and text her “I'm waiting outside, come out whenever you're ready to go.” Five minutes later the front foor opens and I look up to see Alphys, but I can barely recognize her. She looked like a totally different person.
“You look…” I say at a loss for words.
“Ahh does the dress not look good on me? My mom said it looked fine, but I wasn't sure if she was lying…”
“NO! I mean no, you look beautiful,” I say still in awe. She smiles shyly and sits down next to me without another word.
When we walk into the school together everyone stares at Alphys with their mouths wide open. It's like she's Cinderella walking into the ball and catching everyone's eyes. Suddenly a boy walks up to her and offers Alphys his arm.
“Are you and Undyne still waiting for your dates to come or are you free?” Alphys pushes him away and says
“We're not waiting for anyone, we're going with each other.” The boy looks at me,
“Surely she's joking, you went with me last year.”
“Obviously it was just so that I wouldn't be the laughing stalk in school for the next month, I'm lesbian.”
“I don't know… you look american to me.”
“It means I like girls dude.”
“Oh.”
After we had cleared everything up we had the best time together. I wasn't voted prom queen this time, but I really didn't care. I only cared about having the best time with Alphys as possible, and I did! After the dance I asked Alphys out on a date for dinner where I asked her to be my girlfriend and said of course. Both of us have changed since that day, I ditched my popular toxic friends and started hanging out with Alphys. Alphys started to hang out with more people and started to enjoy having a social life. Alphys is the best thing that's ever happened to me and now whatever happens I know that I'll never be alone.

Here's part of my dystopian/fantasy story, MoonRise!
–MoonRise–
-ˏˋ⠀sᴛᴀʀᴛ ᴏғ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ⠀ˊˎ-
THE SKY was dark with ashes, the sun obscured by lazy circles of rising smoke.
The sound of many boots pounded outside a little, half-destroyed cottage. Inside, a small pot hung over a tiny, sputtering fire, and there was no sound but that of the bubbling soup inside it. A crude chair sat in the corner, where a tired-looking woman huddled with two small children, presumably her children. Her belly was softly rounded with the promise of a third.
The younger child was sucking on a tattered and dirty blanket, his eyes never wandering from the charred door. The elder sat and stared at nothing, her mouth slightly open.
The woman nudged the girl, and she jolted slightly.
“Now is not the time to walk amongst the nightmares,” she whispered sharply.
The girl nodded silently and curled into a ball, leaning against the wall.
The boy spoke, his gaze never leaving the door.
“Has Luna been dream-jumping again?” he asked, his voice curiously calm for a young child in such circumstances.
“Have you been casting your emotions?” the girl retorted, her tone accusing.
“I must, else my mind will be flooded with unreasonable fears and instincts,” the boy replied, tugging harder on the blanket he clutched.
The woman gave a weary sigh and leaned her head back.
“Yes, but you're not just casting your emotions, you're heart-swapping,” the girl persisted, scowling.
“Peace,” the woman commanded. “Now is no time to bicker.”
The silence fell once more.
“Luna, go check on the soup, will you?” the woman said after a few minutes. The girl reluctantly got up and went to peer into the pot.
“There's hardly anything in there to call soup,” she remarked, standing on her tiptoes to reach the wooden bowls that were lined up on a shelf. Struggling to balance the ladle and the heavy bowl, she managed to spoon a small amount of watery soup into each bowl.
The boy glanced at his bowl and wrinkled his nose. “It's nothing but herbs and cabbage with some water,” he complained.
His mother looked at him, her mouth tightening around the corners.
“Eat,” she said. “There are many who can't.”
Luna drank her soup in a few gulps, scraping the last drops out with a piece of stale bread.
“At least eat your bread, Solis,” she chided, thrusting a piece into his hand.
He took it and broke off a piece but did not bring it to his mouth.
As night descended, the sound of marching slowly died away and then ceased. The inhabitants of the cottage slowly relaxed as the moon rose higher.
Luna was half asleep, her head nodding. Her mother's eyes were already closed.
Only Solis stood alert, making no movement except to blink occasionally.
Luna let herself slide into the world of darkness, the one she liked much better than that of day.
Here, she was in her element.
Flickers of dreams floated past, and she snatched at an especially tantalizing one, a cozy Christmas-like scene. Snow lay in thick drifts outside, and the chairs were cushioned–a luxury many did not have.
But then the dream flickered, and Luna's shoulders slumped.
It was just like all the others.
The wind began to howl, and snow threw itself against the windows. Monsters screamed in the distance, and the smell of smoke filled the air. Luna shoved the nightmare away and curled up, safe in the empty darkness once more.
It was her gift, her curse.
She was a dreamwalker, but not just any dreamwalker.
She was a domina umbrarum, a Lady of the Shadows.
One who walked amongst nightmares.
-ˏˋ ᴇɴᴅ ᴏғ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ˊˎ-
-ˏˋ⠀sᴛᴀʀᴛ ᴏғ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ⠀ˊˎ-
The shadows parted to reveal a cloaked figure, glowing faintly in the darkness of the night.
Though it was autumn, and the ground was littered with leaves, not even his cloak made a whisper of sound as he stepped forward.
A second figure followed, moving perhaps even more gracefully than the first.
“Lower your hood,” she hissed. “I can see your glow.”
The first tugged his hood down further.
“I can't help it,” he whispered back.
The second shook her head in despair and turned away.
“I know, but they're after you. They know.”
The first tensed.
“You have to stop,” the second continued. “They're onto you.”
The first slumped slightly. “Yes. I know. It's just…emotions are…hard.”
The second huffed.
“Well, control yourself this time,” she said, and vanished, disappearing into the night.
The first fiddled with his hood again, and then sighed and made a peculiar gesture with his hands.
He jerked slightly, and then started breathing faster.
“I hate using my own emotions,” he complained quietly, advancing.
The glow brightened, and he groaned softly.
“That too,” he muttered.
Guards tramped by him, leaves crunching beneath their feet. He tensed until they were gone, and then kept going.
Once he was past the danger, he sighed and sat down, shaking his hood off.
His hair, which was blond, was shining.
Literally, shining.
It was loosely tied back with a bit of rawhide, with bits sticking up from contact with the hood.
He leaned back and raised his hands, then remembered and lowered them again.
How did people get by without the ability to heart-swap, he wondered?
Solis Orbis let out a breath and closed his eyes.
✹
Luna, on the other hand, was concentrating on not falling into a nightmare.
It was getting worse.
When she was young, she had the choice to enter a nightmare, and it only happened when she slept.
This was the dangerous age, though.
The reason domina and dominus umbrarum were so rare, the Ladies and Lords of Shadow, was because as they entered their teenage years, they grew in power but had very little control of it.
And if you slipped, even once, your mind was trapped in the nightmare, and as the person having it woke, your mind faded away with the dream.
Luna was struggling now, trying to reign in the tide of power surging forward. Part of it thrilled her. If she could master it, very few could match her.
But that was only if she could master it.
With a small sigh, she crumpled to the ground, her legs refusing to hold her up any longer.
The nightmare rose before her, one of being left alone in the dark while being chased by something.
Carefully, carefully, she let herself slip in, keeping tight control of her mind.
She could handle this.
✹
Deep within the forbidding castle that marred the horizon, there was a room, and in that room was a throne.
And on the throne was someone.
To be sure, they were small, and the crown kept slipping down.
But their poise was perfect, and dangerous, and the light glinted off a sword at their side.
The heavy doors swung open, and a man entered, kneeling before the throne.
“Your majesty,” he rumbled, head bowed.
The king waved his hand. “Speak,” he said, his voice that of a young boy's.
“Your highness, the cor mutante has shown signs of activity again. Our defensive measures were sabatoged. And we failed to locate the domina umbrarum. I'm truly sorry to be the bearer of bad news, your majesty, but know that we shall succeed soon. We shall not let the speciales vires prevail.”
The king shook his head.
“I am disappointed,” he said slowly. “I had hoped better from you.”
The man cringed in fear. “W-we are very close to defeating them,” he wavered.
“That's what you've been saying since this began,” the king said dismissively. “I'm afraid I can't let this slide, Commander Sahri. You've failed me for the last time.”
The man pressed his forehead to the ground desperately. “Please, noble one! Show me mercy!”
“I have,” the king said, watching with disinterest. “You're lucky you lived this long. Guards, take him to the cage of the potentia comedentis. He shall die serving me as he should have done while he lived.”
The guards dragged the commander away, who wailed as he was taken.
The king leaned back in his throne, and held his breath.
Within a few minutes, an inky tide of black rose up from the floor, and he smiled as it curled around him. In seconds, he was enveloped in the darkness. It settled around him like a cloak of sorts, covering everything but his eyes and mouth.
He threw back his head and laughed, then bounced off the throne and crouched on the ground. His shadow twitched, coming to life. Still smiling, the king guided it to the door and let it loose.
It had begun. The potentia comedentis had reached the peak of its power.
It was time to hunt some speciales vires.
-ˏˋ ᴇɴᴅ ᴏғ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ˊˎ-
-ˏˋ⠀sᴛᴀʀᴛ ᴏғ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ⠀ˊˎ-
Solis lay slumped on the floor.
His sister smacked him for the third time, an exasperated look on her face.
“Stop moping,” she scolded. “We've talked about this so. Many. Times. Before.”
Solis moaned.
“I can't be seen in public right now,” he said.
“Why not?” Luna inquired frostily.
Solis pointed limply to his hair, which was glowing so brightly it hurt her eyes to look at it.
“So?” she said, smacking him again. “Get UP, Solis. Who cares if your hair looks like the sun?”
“I wish I was dead,” Solis said, not answering her question. “I'm cursed. I'm doomed. I can do naught but lie here in eternal lamentation.”
“Your hair is glowing. Big deal.”
“It's hideous,” Solis groaned, letting his hand fall to the ground.
“You're unbelievable. Lots of people would be thrilled if their hair started glowing.”
“I'm not most people. I'm a shadow, hidden and discreet. I'm mysterious, sneaking from one place to the next without a whisper of sound. I move like a cat.”
Luna snorted.
“Or I would be, without this…this…atrocity on my head,” Solis amended.
“Shut up and stop whining, brother,” Luna snapped, yanking him up.
“I don't waaanna,” he whined, scrabbling for the floor.
“You should be ashamed of yourself, Solis,” Luna grunted, trying make him stand.
“I am,” he said, trying to get loose from her arms.
Luna abruptly dropped him on the floor.
“Fine, stay here. See if I care.”
Solis didn't move or reply.
Giving him one last kick to make sure he knew she disapproved, she left the cottage.
They'd repaired it after the fire, and it had been a happy home.
For a while.
When Mother disappeared, taking her newborn son with her, Luna and Solis had suddenly been all alone, left to fend for themselves.
Luna stopped to watch as boys and girls her own age flitted past, giggling and running around.
The other village children her and Solis's age were still laughing and playing. Still lighthearted.
Luna smiled bitterly.
Orphans grew up fast.
They had to.
Especially when you were a speciales vires.
The legends about her kind were old as the hills and just as varied. Some said speciales vires were descended from an ancient race of elves, others that they were formed of pure magic.
Some even said that they were the kin of dragons.
Luna shook her head and continued walking. She needed various things from the village market, such as fabric to make herself a new dress, and soap for Solis, who had recently stopped washing his hair in hopes that it would become too dirty for his glow to be seen.
It looked worse than a bird's nest.
She fingered the hem of her tattered dress. She and Solis didn't have much money, but her dress was practically falling apart. She didn't need much cloth to squeeze a dress out, even the dress ended up a bit patched.
But she desperately needed the soap, or the smell of Solis's hair would call more attention that the not at all diminished glow.
And as soon as she got it, she was going to march her silly brother down the river and toss him in and scrub him until the week of grime was entirely washed off, and then she would hit him a few times, just for good measure.
And maybe throw the soap at him.
She was so busy in plotting how best to punish Solis she didn't even notice the young man until they plowed into each other.
Luna fell to the ground, wincing as she scraped her palm on the cobblestones.
The man halted.
“Oh, I'm terribly sorry, miss,” he said, reaching down to help her to her feet.
Then stopped, and gasped.
Luna felt a tremble of fear.
Slowly she reached up.
Shaken loose by her fall, her hair had parted to reveal softly pointed ears.
Ears she had tried so hard to hide.
The man watched her with wide eyes.
“You're…a speciales vires,” he whispered.
Luna was frozen with shock, hand still fingering the points.
This was the thing that marked speciales vires, the thing that set them apart.
He stepped back.
“You're dangerous,” he stated flatly.
Luna's breathing quickened
“You don't have to turn me in,” she pleaded. “It's not what it looks like.”
“Correction: You WON'T have to turn her in,” said a voice behind the man. “Because this never happened. She's perfectly normal and very harmless. You're being very rude; apologize to the lady, won't you, Carl?”
The man went white with terror when he heard the voice.
“Of course, of course,” he stammered. “Won't happen again, never happened in the first place. Very sorry for knocking you over, miss.”
Then he fled, looking as though he'd been scared out of his wits.
Behind him was a boy about her age.
He bowed.
“Lord Lepos, at your service,” he said. “But you probably know me better as the Elvish Lord.”
-ˏˋ ᴇɴᴅ ᴏғ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ˊˎ-
-ˏˋ⠀sᴛᴀʀᴛ ᴏғ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ⠀ˊˎ-
“Um,” Luna said, not sure why the elf had helped her.
He flashed a smile. “No problem, my lady.”
Luna backed away a little bit.
“Well. I'll be going now,” she said, eyeing the boy. Her suspicions were confirmed when he started towards her.
“Leaving so soon? Where are you going?”
Luna backed away further. “Lots of places,” she said, her brows drawing together.
“We could go there together,” Lord Lepos suggested, reaching for her sleeve.
He gave a startled cry a second later as Luna kicked him in the leg, leaving a dusty boot print on his immaculate clothing.
“Shoo,” she commanded.
Lepos looked wounded. “But, my lady, I don't even know your name!”
Luna kicked him again and he yelped.
“Okay! Okay, I'm going,” he grumbled, scooching away from her feet. “Talk about gratitude.”
Luna didn't give him a second glance as she stepped over him and continued on her way to the market.
✹
That was what he got for being nice, huh? Lepos stood, brushing himself off.
Rude.
Clearly, she was one of those don't-touch-me types.
Pasting a smile on his face, Lepos mounted his horse, which was standing nearby. Brown Horse was very easygoing, unlike Spotted Purple Horse, and as for Fire-Breathing Dragon Horse–well, Lepos counted himself lucky if he got past his stall in the stables alive.
There was that strange little girl, of course, the one who claimed that Fire-Breathing was a very tame and gentle horse. It was true that she had an uncanny knack with animals, but nobody could tame that beast.
A shame, too. He'd spent a ridiculous amount of money and time stealing–sorry, /permanently borrowing/–the horse from its old master.
Somewhere out there, an enraged ogre was still rumored to be searching for his pet horse, but Lepos never listened to rumors.
And as an elf among humans, he had started plenty of those.
Most elves chose to reside in the high-up mountains, or in the heart of some jungle. They lived frugal lives and spent their days in meditation and honing their skills.
Lepos had never wanted that kind of life. He itched for social interaction and excitement, loved the feeling of having escaped by a hairs-breadth.
Plus, humans were fun to mess with.
It was amusing to see them spin webs around themselves, getting tangled in the process. It was entertaining to watch as people bowed their heads to him because of his title, paying homage to nothing but a name.
Humans were delicate, too. They broke so easily.
Well, except for that girl he'd rescued.
But she wasn't exactly human, was she? She was a speciales vires. He'd seen her softly pointed ears.
Not as pointed as his own, of course. You couldn't hide an elf's ears like she had hidden hers.
He was so wrapped up in his thoughts, he didn't notice the shadow slithering past.
✹
Solis looked up as the door slammed open.
Luna threw a bar of soap at him.
“Wash. Now,” she commanded.
Solis decided not to argue.
“What happened?” he asked instead.
Luna kicked the wall.
“Somebody saw my ears,” she said. “Two someones, actually.”
“How'd you escape?” he pressed, wondering how she'd gotten away.
“Didn't. Some elf lord shooed him off.”
Solis tilted his head. “Huh. Weird. Well, at least you didn't get turned in.”
Luna huffed.
Solis could tell she wasn't going to stop anytime soon, so he went outside and headed to the river.
He'd just have to wear a hood over his hair instead.
✹
/The shadow was free.
After years of being tethered to something else, it was free to move.
Free to hunt.
It was hungry after its long imprisonment, hungry for power.
It raised its shapeless head and sniffed.
There was power here.
Something like a smile passed over its face.
Time to feed./

“Will my character have magical abilities?”
“Without a doubt.”
༺═── word count; 854 ──═༻
He didn't have much to say, not anymore. He had evolved to live in the background of his world, watching his siblings run loops around him in all skills, talented in every way. Now, in school, he bent his head and didn't talk; not when his sister was sitting in front of him, whispering to her friends and erupting into giggles every moment. The teachers didn't call on him anymore. He had nothing to display.
“I heard there's magic going around.”
“Hmph?” More giggles.
“I didn't think magic was catchable.” His sister snapped her fingers, the click sending sudden shock seeping through his skin.
“Yeah, me too. I always thought magic was something you were born with.”
“I wasn't born with any!”
Their conversation only stopped when the teacher arrived at their desk, rapping at the wood with a ruler. “Pay attention, now, girls.” She smiled. That was another reason why he didn't speak. Words could be twisted, changed, captured, but his siblings never had any dilemmas. Surely there had to be one piece of bad luck in his family, and he was certain to be it.
“What do you think magic is, Miss?” His sister pouted, gazing up at the teacher with a determined glint in her eye.
The teacher stopped, meeting her gaze with a demure expression. “I think magic is everything, Liana. Magic is buds sprouting, the gentle nudge of a runner over the finish line, the song of a siren. Magic is whatever the user wants it to be.”
“Or Rowan talking.” Someone snickered, and the whole class erupted into laughter.
“Now, now.” The teacher reprimanded, but she said nothing more as she strode back up to the front of the room.
His fingers were itching, but he persuaded them to stay calm by cramming them into his pockets. They tapped against each other, shuddering, while he smiled faintly. Liana leaned back in her chair, draping her manicured nails onto his desk and pressing her cherry-red lips together.
"You need to talk, Rowan. It's embarrassing. I'm your sister.“
He shook his head, shrugging simultaneously.
”Does that not matter to you?"
No, he thought, because you are obviously perfect and I can't stop my fingers itching.
She tips her head. “You're sad, Rowan. You make me sad.”
His sister stops leaning on his desk and flippantly raises her hand to answer a question about the magic distribution, displaying her brains and beauty.
Once, when Rowan was little, he had leant against the bannister of his staircase and listened to his parents consider sending him away to a foreign country. He didn't know what problem of his it would solve.
“Magic,” The teacher scrawled on the board, the chalk scratching against the dark exaggeratingly loudly, “Is a strange concept. How do we know whether we are born with it or not? How do we know whether a pixie slipped into your bedroom last night and gave you a share of its magic? We'll study that today.”
Rowan knew. He knew that finger-itching ended up dissolving into bad luck. He'd learnt to live with bad luck.
“Miss,” Liana asked, staring straight ahead, “What's the symptoms of magic?”
“Excellent question.” His sister smirked. “There's a lot of symptoms, come to think of it. Too much energy. The uncontrollable urge to do something when you don't know whether it is clearly right or wrong. Waking up after an hour of sleep and looking like you slept for eight hours, and feeling like you slept eight hours, too. Or the opposite.”
“I could be magic.” He heard Liana hiss to her friends, who giggled in agreement.
“Or Rowan could.” The same person snorted.
His fingers itched. His fingers itched. Energy pulsed through them, making him shiver so much that he hopped up to excuse himself to the bathroom, shuddering, he was shuddering so much – the teacher took one look and told him to go without him opening is mouth – the kid chortling to himself in the back row, leaning forward, opening his pencil case, screaming – and Rowan was out in the quiet hallway.
The boy slumped against the wall, his fingers twitching no longer. He ran them through his hair. Liana was acting as if magic was fun, as if it was enjoyable. It had to be suppressed, and he had to be contained. His family was ashamed of him. Nobody should want that.
The door opened, and the teacher stepped out, closing it softly behind her. She crouched down to his level, and smiled a smile that didn't reach her eyes. “That wasn't very nice. You knew we were learning about magic, and faked it? That poor boy is horrified. I'm calling home.” It would've been fine if she didn't add, “Why can't you be like Liana and me, for goodness sake? You just act tired all the time, and you're embarrassing her. She's your twin. Don't be so selfish.”
He's selfish, his older sister said. He's sad, his twin smirked. He's worthless, his father said. He's too much work, his mother sobbed.
The word ‘magic’ never parted from his lips.
