Quest 4

Still riding for some time, you keep replaying what just happened. Six thieves had surrounded you. By now, though, there must only be three since you took some of them out with your arrows.

How would you stop them?

You hear shouts behind you and realize that they've caught up with you. They're only a little ways back.

You quickly hop off your horse and tie it to a tree. Looking at the rope attached to your saddlebag and the trees around you, you decide to set a trap.

Jean clears her throat. “What are you doing?”

Sunny nods but stops as you put a finger to your lips, urging them to be quiet. “Shhhh. I have a plan,” you whisper.


Hoisting yourself up a tree beside the path, you tie sections of the rope to the limbs and hop down.

Now, you string the rope out along the ground and tie a loop on the end.

You motion to Sunny and Jean to climb different trees and the three of you barely have enough time to get to the top of your trees before the thieves come closer.

Two of them walk close to each other and scan the trees, searching for you. One is a stocky fellow and the other is the toothy woman from before. They step into your trap, and pulling the string, you quickly hoist them up into the sky.

Glancing at the dangling thieves, the last one runs off. You catch his eyes before he leaves, and realize he's the thief that you followed in the first place, the one with the scar on his eyebrow.

He quickly races off, his boots pounding the dirt, and you sigh.

“There he goes again.”

Glancing back at your arm, you notice that all of it is pixelated now and so is part of your shoulder.

You know you don't have long.

Activity:

This time, you need to find another camper to team-up with! :D You will post a comment in our lodge saying something like, “Hey, anyone wanna do the quest with me?”

Then, you will each draw a three panel comic strip based on the storyline for this quest. But don’t tell the other camper what exactly you're drawing and vice versa! Once you're done, show each other your work and give your partner some constructive criticism about their work. Remember to tell them what's good and what they could improve!

Post the art and your constructive criticism here when you're done for proof. :) It's due by 11:59 p.m. on the 13th, NDT time.

You'll earn 8 coins for completing this Quest, so get started!

Note: You can still get half the coins if you are the only one of the pair to complete your comic. :)

Quest 4 is officially over, but like Quest 3, no one completed it, so if you complete it anytime before the session is over, you'll earn 2 coins! We hope that you do so that we can put the comic collab together with all the pieces! :)

Announcement!

Any time a quest has not been completed by anyone before it is due, you can complete it after the due date to earn 2 coins. :)

(This applies to Quests 3, 4, 5, and 6 which have not been completed.)

But you have to complete them before the session is over to earn the coins! So make sure to complete them if you can. :)

You are still in the tree, and you climb down.

Looking up at the dangling thieves, you hear them talking.


"Oh, I knew we never should have trusted Jack. He's got no loyalty, I said, but nooo, you wouldn't listen to me,“ the stocky one grumbled.

The woman looked at the other thief, glaring. ”He'll still get us our cut. We just have to get down from here."

The two continue talking, and you look away.

Jack's the one with the crown, you think.


Jean hops onto her horse and looks back at you, a gleam in her eyes. “What're you waiting for?”


You smile and quickly mount your mare. Following behind Jean and Sunny, the three of you take off after Jack.


Riding long and hard, you feel yourself start to grow tired. You glance up at the trail and see that it comes to a crossroads.


Sunny looks down at the ground. “He went this way,” they point, “I see his boot prints.”


You continue on your journey, riding through the woods, but wondering all the while how you got trapped in the game in the first place. And will you make it out in time?

You ride into a new town, this one you've never seen before. Foreign smells and items surround you in the marketplace.

You turn to Sunny. “What is this place?”

“Azaela village,” they reply.

Jean nods, “It's full of robbers, so keep an eye out.”

You see a hooded man and want to get a better glimpse. His gait looks familiar.

You get down from your horse and hand the reigns to Jean.

“I'm going to get a better look. I don't want to be conspicuous, so keep an eye on my horse, will ya?” You smile.

Walking through the crowd, you get closer to see the man's coat flap open and the glint of diamond in the sunlight.

Seeing you, he darts away. You grumble under your breath and race after him on foot.

All of a sudden, someone grabs your shoulder, and you look back. A small, wrinkled old woman smiles at you, showing the items she is selling at the market.

You shake your head “no”, but when you look back, the thief has disappeared again.

Quest 7

You walk back to Jean and Sunny, weaving through the crowd.

“Did you find him?” Jean asks. The wind ruffles her hair, and she brushes it aside.

You nod and hop onto your horse. “Yep, but I lost him. He should be this way,” you point towards the tree line. “Come on!”



A few hours later as nightfall comes, the three of you prepare a fire and find a decent spot to spend the night.

Sunny sits close to you at the fire. “How are you?” they ask.

“It's spread to both of my arms now and part of my torso. The plague moves fast,” you sigh, staring into the flames.

Sunny smiles encouragingly. “Well, we're more than halfway through the game now. We're really close.”

You meet their eyes, quirking up your lips. “You're right. Thanks.”

Suddenly, a screech echoes above you.

You've never heard this sound before, but you've heard tales about it. You know that it can only mean one thing. A dragon is near.

Standing up, you see a figure coming toward you. It's Jack. His eyes are filled with fear, and he quickly races past you. You call out to him to wait, and he looks back.

Suddenly, the dragon swoops down and lands next to him. Its emerald eyes narrow in on the shiny crown in his hands and quickly snatches it from him with its teeth.

Jack backs up slowly, but the dragon pays him no mind anymore and swoops up into the sky, the crown between its jaws.

So Quest 7 is over.

You can't believe that a dragon was just before your eyes. And it stole the king's crown.


You sigh and look into the mountain range in the distance as the sun peeks over it. You decide it's time you get this crown once and for all.

Waking up Sunny and Jean, you eat and pack up before mounting your horse again. You take the lead, telling the two non-player characters where you saw the dragon.

After riding for some time, you realize that you're almost to the top of the mountain.

It is now midday and the sun beats down on your back. The mountain trail is old, rocky, and overgrown. You remember how much easier it was to do this game outside of it.

You look ahead at the cave. That must be it, you think.


Hopping off your horse, you turn to Jean and Sunny.

“I'm going in alone.”

“No, don't-” both started, but you shake your head.

“It'll be easier. Quieter too. Don't worry. I remember what happens in here…I think,” you add under your breath.

You turn towards the cave and creep inside. The dragon sleeps on a pile of treasure that glints from the sun that spills into the cave. You spot the crown beneath it's arm.

Stepping a little closer, you make a clinking sound as your foot adjusts the treasure. You pause, holding your breath.

The dragon slowly opens it's eyes and raises an eyebrow. “I thought you wouldn't be dumb enough to make noise. There is a magic whatnot over there that makes you fly. Would've been so much simpler.“

You pause for a minute.

And then burst out laughing. ”Really? Where?“ you ask, wiping your eyes.


He sighs, raising his brow even higher, which seems almost impossible. You stop laughing, eying him as he slowly stretches his legs as he stands up.

”You're here for the crown, aren't you?“

You nod slowly. ”Yes.“

The dragon comes closer to you, meeting your eyes face to face.

”Alright. Then let's play a little game."

“Hmm..,” a grin spreads on his scaly face. “I'm always up for a riddle. If you get my riddle correct within three minutes, you can have the crown and go on your way.”

You bite your lip. “Three minutes?”

He nods his head, his gray-blue eyes sparkling.

“And if I don't get it right?” you ask.

“You'd become my dinner.”

Your stomach drops.

You don't like the sound of that. But..was there a better option? He could just eat you now.

You slowly nod.

“Alright, now let's see…what can clap without any hands?” He asks.

Your thoughts race as you try to think. Gloves? No. Umm..something that claps…something that claps!

As the time ticks down your heart begins to beat faster and faster.

“Fifteen seconds,” the dragon says, trying to hold back his smile as he lays back down on his treasure.

“Um..th-thunder, thunder!” you shout.

The dragon sighs. “Hmm…too bad. You would've been wonderful for dinner. But anyways, here's your crown,” he reaches down with his tail and hands it to you.

“Come back anytime for another riddle!” He calls.

You scoff. “Yeah right. I'll just be glad to get home,” you mumble.

Going outside, you grin at Jean and Sunny. “I got it!”



A little while later, as you ride back to the king, you start to think back on all that happened.

You were transported into the game, tracked down thieves multiple times, and even outwitted a dragon! A lot had happened. Now it was time to hand the crown over, and finally finish the game.

You hand the king his crown and smile. “As good as new, your Highness.”

He claps his hands. “Yes, yes, absolutely right! You know, I have always looked splendid in this crown,” he places it on his head and sits back in his throne.

As you walk outside with Sunny and Jean, you see the words Mission Compete! pop up in the sky.

You turn to the non-player characters and crack a smile. “I guess it's time to go.”

“You did great.” Jean smiles approvingly.

“Yeah, and we'll miss you!” Sunny says.

“Thanks, I-”

You never get to finish as you suddenly feel your skin tingle–the pixels disappear, and your body starts to glow as you regain your health. A flash of white emanates from you…

Your eyes blink open to see the arcade once again. An employee is nudging you. “You okay?” they ask.

You rub your eyes and get to your feet. You see that your skin is back to normal. “Y-yeah, everything's great!”

You walk outside the arcade and smile to yourself. That was…an adventure. Would I ever be up for it again? you ask yourself.

Without hesitation, you think yes. Crown Quest would always be something you'd come back to.

It was the game of a lifetime.
