I think that the Front Page needs a row dedicated to just random projects selected by a randomized algorithm.
How Would this Thingy Work?
I'm no javascript wizard, but at the beginning of each day (Eastern Standard), a program would access a list of all featured projects (the things on profiles, not the Front Page) and select five to put on the front page.
Edit: It would send the suggestions to the ST who could nix inappropriate projects.
Why on Earth is this a Good Idea?
Well, I think that the ordinary, everyday Scratcher doesn't get enough attention. The featured row is honestly, a bit monotonous. I'm tired of seeing people with a 1000 followers dominate the Front Page. The same goes for the What the Community is Loving/Remixing- and even for the Curated by ______ row. This brings me to a fundamental flaw of Scratch- inertia. When you search something up to add to the FPC studio, you find the most popular project in that category. Then the project becomes even more popular.
So, just add a Random Project Row and presto, Scratchers are exposed to a variety of diverse projects!

Edit: I can’t find the exact location on the TOLoRS, but I’m pretty sure I heard that random projects would potentially allow you to see an inappropriate project.

This proposed row on the front page would display projects that were most recently shared by Scratchers, in an attempt to help unnoticed Scratchers get more views. Such a feature existed in Scratch 1.4 and Scratch 2.0. It was removed for several reasons: the community did not find these projects interesting, the row would sometimes show inappropriate projects, and these new projects would often get disrespectful comments from other users.

A button or link which allows you to view a random project is also rejected for similar reasons.

Oh… Now that's an interesting idea. Having a bot sending random projects to the ST everyone's in a while so that they can decide whether or not they should be a featured project. Although I'm not sure… But at least that idea is not rejected.

So, now you are suggesting a row that’s kind of like featured projects but the ST only moderates if they are appropriate or not?

Not exactly- the Scratch Team would give it its own row, and it unlike the Featured row, the Scratch Team wouldn't chose the projects, they could only tell the algorithm to get its binary together and re-pick another project.
