Can't you just use something like online converter to convert files from mp4 to png?
You mean mp4 to gif?

I support! You can still convert the files to gif but it would be better if we could do it directly. There's already mp3 support so why not mp4 as well? Merry Christmas!

Bumping this topic to the front page.

I like this suggestion!
This could be great for cinema projects where you can watch movies, or cutscenes!
However, adding to this suggestion, maybe when MP4 files are imported, they should be compressed, and the sound could be a separate part of the MP4.
You know, like in the Sounds tab of the MP4.
Also, I didn't know 'Sandwich posted here a long time ago–

Although you can import a .gif, this could make it less annoying, especially if it is slightly longer. However, I believe there should be a limit to the video length- we don't want people importing the whole entirety of Shrek into Scratch with this.

No support. you can already do this. Convert videos to gifs (TONSSSSS of websites online) then upload them. Then do:
when green flag clicked
forever
next costume
end

I would be big in size, but uploading videos would be no different.

It would take a lot of time and memory to decompress and decode the video and decode the audio, and the project would probably be hundreds of MB even for a simple video, and this would crash your computer.

The process of importing would be the same as importing gifs. The quality of it would be lowered

that script is too fast (changed it)
also gif doesn’t produce sounds
it stores images

That would be for every single video ever uploaded. Also, compressing a GIF is much easier than an MP4, and it might need a lot of server resources which Scratch may not have.

Also how would you interact with an MP4 in the editor? Would it be resizeable or anything?

No support, make it much easier to steal videos and music. Also makes it easier for kids to share videos of themselves when they might not know that’s a horrible idea, because all they have it do is record a video with the webcam instead of having to convert it to gif (something that they might not even know can be imported). Gif importing is useful in very specific situations but when you need it it’s very nice to have. But if you really need it just import the audio and video separately

Children can still take pictures of themselves and upload it regardless of if they can upload .mp4s I agree with OP as .gif quality is often quite low

This is not a downside. This proves that it can be implemented into scratch. As not all scratch users have access to turbowarp
