I also love gifs, if something as simple as 60 frame repeating animation can crash ur pc something is wrong
Shoot, pressed wrong buton

Ban animated GIF's
Scratch is all not about animated GIF's“Scratch is about learning”
Scratch is not about popularity, let's ban loves, faves, and follows.
Scratch is not about contests, let's ban all DMCs, DTAs, DTIYSs, etc.
Scratch is not about roleplays, let's ban roleplaying and cosplaying.
Scratch is not about communication, let's ban comments, forums, and posts.
Scratch is not about social, let's ban all projects.
Plus, animated GIF's can lag devices, and even crash them.If your device crashes even with a 30 fps looping animated image, I'm sadly gonna tell you that it's not suitable for Scratch.

seems like petty revenge
also, I doubt ANY device would crash due to a 24 fps looping gif.

Scratch's stage (or canvas) is a 30-fps animation. By your logic nobody will be using Scratch anymoreWhat scratch is about is it’s community. Like that this guy said, also, as I also said beforeScratch is all not about animated GIF's“Scratch is about learning”

There is an extremely low chance that they will crash your computerImagine there are thousands of GIF's can crash your computerHave they crashed your computer before?
For example, my computer doesn't seem to slow down by looking at this user's followers page, despite the fact that there are many GIF profile pictures there: https://scratch.mit.edu/users/Gliffe/following/?page=1
WARNING: Clicking the link above will result in lots of profile picture GIFs.
the only way they could is if you found a way to get some used 1995 laptop to run modern browser versions
and a nonmodded device that gets crashed from 300 gifs on a page wouldn't even be able to work on scratch, like the commenter above said, scratch projects are really slightly inefficient 480x360 30fps interactive gifs, and if you cant handle a 30x30 half second gif then I really don't know

I don't see the problem with this, despite the reasons you gave. It seems that the benefits outweigh the consequences with GIF profile pictures.

Plus, animated GIF's can lag devices, and even crash them. You would need to have a really bad device for it to crash. I don't think there has ever been a situation where someone crashed because they looked at a GIF. If it was a big moving picture then yeah I see why, but most gifs are small.
What scratch is about is it’s community.GIFs can be a part of that.
Also my question is, if you're suggesting this, are you implying that a GIF lagged/crashed your device? Because if so, get a new device at that point.
Banning GIFs because one person lagged/crashed because of it doesn't mean GIFs should be banned.

Animated profile pictures take up less space than animated thumbnails for projects. And even then, you could still have an animated thumbnail, it'll just be NFE.

Ban all Scratch projects, they can be used to crash a device!!1!1
But seriously, what kind of device is going to crash from a GIF that is supposed to be or less than 512 kilobytes big and has to be or less than 500x500 pixels wide/long?

I had a computer from 2003 that can easily handle over 100 GIFs at a time and could barely use Scratch.. If your computer can't handle one single GIF, there's no chance it can use Scratch.

if your computer crashes by a 512kb like 24fps series of images then how is it running a browser
for it to crash like that it must be like a bunch of lemons potatoes and wires sticked together
if it crashes by that then get a new device, you cannot do like anything with that kind of device if you couldn't see even 1 gif
also, scratch is basically an interactive 30fps 480x360 gif so if it cant handle 24fps how can it handle 30???

To sum it up, I'm pretty sure it's impossible to crash a computer like that, especially since Scratch has an upload limit for PFPs.
No support!

No support, my early 2015 school chromebook with only 1 GB available storage and like 2-3GB available ram works completely fine with gifs
