Scratch Short URLs

So I thought of this great idea: Scratch short URLs! You can set a custom short URL for your project once shared, and when entering that link into the search bar of a browser or clicking the link inside of Scratch, it could bring you to the project linked to that short link. This would be useful for finding back projects you don't necessarily want to favorite, and some other reasons, like making it easier to link a project.

All of the short URLs would be hosted on some subpage of Scratch, like https://scratch.mit.edu/shorturl/<project-url>

* Custom URL box would only be visible to project creator
* Maybe you'd have to first submit a custom URL for approval, so people don't claim “griffpatch” “scratchteam” “ceebee” etc.

The problem is that, although the filter should be in place here, it does mean something else for the Scratch Team to moderate, and with resources and team members already low, will they be willing to do that for a feature that is not that necessary, as (in my opinion) the current system is fine?

So what? The account fortnite is taken, and it's not run by fortnite…

Right, but still, if someone took the tag of another user, if their name wasn't too common, the user whose name got used might be upset.
How do you quote a post number?

Yes, that's an issue that probably cannot be fixed.

Though this would be convenient, i think we should take this into a different direction and instead of customizing the URL, it just becomes shorter and could be like scrat.ch/p/123467 to avoid “URL snipes” (if scratch feels like paying for a new domain thingy)

This is definitely the best idea to implement short URLs.
