turn off following for griffpatch on april 1st

i'm quite unsure how the scratch devs would do this but it's needed to stop the massive strain on the servers that will be caused by unfollowing and refollowing.

for context: people are spamming a message that is encouraging others to “prank” griffpatch by unfollowing and refollowing him all at once.

(nezon made this suggestion before the evidence came that it didn’t cause any damage the last time it happened. also, very few people appear to be stating they will do it.)

I dont think Griffpatch cares. I doubt he even reads his messages.
I also haven’t noticed any difficulties with servers either.

It's because of this: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/586266/unread/

It's not about griffpatch.

I doubt it would really make a difference, at most a few thousand people would participate in this, and I'm sure the scratch servers will be able to deal with it. I think this occurred last year too and nothing noticeable happened.

Support! Turn off unfollowing and following on april fools day. It's the Servers that are the biggest problem. Also his Messages! Please delete the Studio Griffpatch Pr@nkers

Maybe only 30% more followers than last year. I suppose turning off following for griffpatch on April 1st would also cause some controversy due to the exclusion. Maybe it would be a good idea if it does cause issues.

I recall that others did this last year. It was not insignificant in the sense that @griffpatch lost at least 1,000 followers on April Fools' Day, if I recall that correctly. What I don't remember is any server issues occurring as a result of this. Even if server issues did happen, no big deal — it would be sensible to just stay off the website for a few hours and then come back later when it's working a little faster.

yeah i think if we just remove the follow button for the whole 2 days and bring it back we might be fine

I bet if we turned it off for @griffpatch, they’ll probably just do it to @Will_Wam or someone else instead. It wouldn’t destroy the entire problem. Plus, as others have aforementioned, the servers will likely be able to handle it.

I think that the serves will be able to handle it. And if griffpatch's follows are turned off, then they're going to, like Super_Scratch_Bros20 said, would follow Will_Wam or something.

I don't think so. I think most Scratchers would busy themselves complaining about it over April Fools that they couldn't spam griffpatch.

I doubt that there will be any strain on the servers, considering that last year there was no problem.

Server

Apparently last year this happened, and I was active. Literally nothing happened. I didn't even know it happened until recently.
