Pixar’s Turning Red

Pixar’s latest film is about a 13-year-old girl, Mei Lee, who turns into a red panda when too excited or anxious.

This personally wasn’t my favourite film, but I decided there needed to be a thread for people to share their opinions.

They’ll probably be spoilers if you haven’t seen the film.

Yeah I don’t know why I decided to watch it so early, since I wasn’t really even excited.

Pixar’s Turning Red

Saw a bit of it during my lunch period. Not a big fan, to be honest. The last few Pixar films that I've watched felt like they had the same plot where it's some family that has a magical power or something like that and the main character discovers it in some sorta way. It had its moments from what I saw, and I'm not gonna bash on anyone for liking it, but I'm personally not into it.

I didn't watch the movie yet, but I plan on watching it later.

Honestly, it doesn't that good. I'm not sure about this movie.

That sounds like you’re describing Encanto, which is Disney, not Pixar. I did feel like this film felt less like a Pixar film though.

Why does this sound like Encanto? Plus, that's Disney, not Pixar. Though I can understand your point here…

Ming is kinda hot tho

She's the funniest character of them all

The fear of her mom calling her on the phone. “I'm not here!”

The pad thing.

The double joined elbow thing “I can make a perfect circle!”

and the tamagotchi at the end

ight but we gotta acknowledge that her panda is in a children's toy. That's adorable

Pixar’s Turning Red

I watched the movie yesterday.

I won't spoil it, but it isn't too great honestly. The beginning just made me suffer since it was so cringy and awful to sit though. After that, it got a bit better and I could actually watch it. And there were a few things I liked about it. But overall, it's kind of meh for me.

That was basically my experience too. I can kinda understand how it's relatable for a lot of people, but I still don't think it's one of Pixar's best.

Because modern Disney/Pixar films these days feel like the same plot over and over, with the only difference being the characters.

Does anyone know what the Cantonese chat during the ritual means?

The same applies for the scenes where Abby was speaking Korean

Does anyone else feel like the characters weren’t very developed? I know the film focused on Mei and Ming, but I feel like we should have learned more about Mei’s friends and her dad.

Yes. There was supposedly a fight between Ming and Ming's mother about Jin, because Ming's mother didn't approve of Jin.

We never learnt why.

Is he just a dork like Agustin?

Is he a troublemaker like Camilo?

I have to know

I literally saw it a few minutes ago. Paused at the start of the credits because my dad got fish and chips. But it was good. Especially the quality!

That's a good question. I think maybe since it might be something that their family is very ‘traditional’, and maybe Jin didn't agree much with their values or something? I'm not sure~
