FAQ of SPC

OhMiGosh I reloaded this side by mistake, now I have to write everything all over– :sob:

So this is the forum version of the FAQ of SPC, and this is the project version : https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/607292774/ (lazy)

so on to the questions

What is this SPC thingy?

SPC or Scratch Poetry Camp is an biannual camp held virtually on scratch, it's a place where you can meet other poets, share your writing and engage in fun activities! It's quite similar to SWC but it's specifically for poetry!

Who should Join SPC?

It doesn't matter whether you're an artist, a writer, a programmer, SPC is open for everyone.

What if I don’t know how to write poetry/I’m not a good poet?

It doesn’t matter! There was a time when Shakespeare had to learn alphabets. And a time when Einstein had to learn numbers—you’ll learn and who knows, you may be new Poe! (or Dickinson for the purveyors of hope matter) besides a I know a number of people who are amazing artists, programmers, writers, pianists, photographers and poets at the same time! For e.g. @PolarBear_17 @whiteandblackcat, @honeybreeze, @Berricake, @Bellevue91 and @-Alocasia!

What's the difference between the Main Cabin and the genre cabins?

Great question! The Main Cabin is the headquarters of the whole thing. You post what points you've earned from activities or verse here, and the managers (who are hosts or leaders) will add the points! As for the smaller individual cabins, that's where you'll add the words you write (example: +160 words from my novel!), and your leader or co-leaders will add them! (Note: you don't have to write the genre of the cabin you're in, you can write what you want )

What are points, anyways?

Points are how the results are determined. You can earn points in one of five ways - the daily activities, the weekly activities, verse warring, the writing contest, and just writing in general. Each of these have a number of points attached to them (in particular, every word you write counts as a point at the end of SPC!) At the end of the month, all the points are added up, and the cabin with the most wins!

what are all those things?

Here's an explanation of each one..?
Daily activities are new activities posted every day at midnight IST. These are short-to-medium-length things that help enhance your imagination and motivate you to write. Most of the time, they have points attached - usually from 50 to 1k!
Weekly activities are long activities - but luckily, you have the whole week to complete them! Starting from midnight IST on the 1st, a new one's posted every seven days. These are each connected to a writing workshop (more about those later), helping you use what you learned in the workshop. They usually are worth about 1000 to a 1500 points!
Verse wars start about a week into SPC (when a host shares the word war project). Basically it's where you and someone from another cabin agree to write in rhythm (see below) for a set amount of time, and whoever writes more wins! If you win, make sure to comment something like “I won a verse war!” in the Main Cabin for points.
Last but not least, the writing contest! Fenn will share a project, where you'll post your entries. There are a couple of rules (they're be on that project) but it's worth it - winners can get tens of thousands of points for their cabin, so be sure to enter!

Wait. Wait. Wait. Verse Wars?

If you’ve participated in SWC, you know a concept of word wars, we have a similar concept of verse wars. Word wars/Verse Wars are much like word sprints – but you're competing against someone else to see who can write the most. And with a twist—You have to rhyme each sentence or even harder—use on of the poetry meters. Also if you’re unfamiliar with the concepts of word sprints then—In a verse war you have to write verses that have a rhythm (use a poetry meter or just rhyme) under a certain amount of time with an opponent who has a similar WPM with you. All writing must be literary. It can be as bland as “The cat sat on the mat, // She likes to wear a hat// she runs after the bat…” but you can't just write “a a a a” over and over. The Winner who just rhymed earns 150 points for their cabin and the Winner who used a poetry meter would win 250 points. (Note: both of the contestants have to agree on using a poetry meter)

Q. I hear a lot about cabin wars, what are they?

CABIN WARS CABIN WARS CABIN WARS - they're one of the most favourite parts of Scratch-Camps!! Twice a month, cabins can war each other with challenges. These are called Cabin Wars

What are enemies, neutrals, and allies?

These first originated in Cabin Wars - generally, you would always attack enemies, sometimes attack neutrals, and never attack allies. There are also siblings and rivals - siblings are like really close allies, and rivals are really close enemies. (Remember, though, that it's all for fun - don't be rude or mean to anyone, even if they're in one of your cabin's enemies.)

What are Poetry Workshops?

They’re writing workshops included in the weekly or sometimes in the daily. They help you improve your writing in real time.

Also, what's the memory book?

The memory book is a project that serves to help us remember all the fun times we had. We're always on the lookout for funny quotes - if you see one, let your leaders know! Also, Kosmo is running it this time,

What if there's drama? Who should I talk to?

Great question! We don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable, and we want it to be fun, so if you're having issues, contact your leader or one of the hosts privately (example: at the bottom comment of one of their projects). We're happy to help

Q. How can I apply to be a leader or a co-leader?

A. Two months before every session, one of the hosts will release a leader applications project, with a list of questions. Remix that project with your answers, and half a month later, see if you got chosen! This is this session's leader sign-ups -
https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/607024039

How can I apply to be a camper?

A month before every session, the hosts will release another project - this one for campers. There'll be a form for you to fill out - fill it out in the comments. Everyone who signs up gets in, don't worry

There's something else I want to know! Where should I ask it?
Ask in the comments below, and someone will answer + I'll probably add it here :D

FAQ of SPC

So, this is the forum version of the FAQ of SPC! this is the project version : https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/607292774/

On to the FAQ!

(please read the whole thing)

1) What is this SPC thing?

3) What if I don’t know how to write poetry/I’m not a good poet?

It doesn’t matter! There was a time when Shakespeare had to learn the alphabet. And a time when Einstein had to learn numbers—you’ll learn! Maybe you'll be the next Poe (Dickinson, for the lovers of hope). Besides, I know a number of people who are amazing artists, programmers, writers, pianists, photographers and poets at the same time! Examples– @PolarBear_17 @whiteandblackcat, @honeybreeze, @Berricake, @Bellevue91 and @-Alocasia!

4) What's the difference between the main cabin and the genre cabins?

Great question! The main cabin is the headquarters of the whole thing. Dailies, weeklies, and workshops (below) will be posted here, as well as announcements. As for the smaller individual cabins, that's where you'll chat with fellow campers, do in-cabin-only activities. However, you'll get to add points only through contacting your leader through their preferred mode of communication–chat studio, cabin, profile, etc.. there'll also be allies, which you'll try not to attack/be mean to/etc. then there'll be mortal enemies, which you will try to beat at all costs. everyone else? neutrals.

5) What are points, anyway?

Points are how the results are determined. You can earn points in one of five ways - the daily activities, the weekly activities, verse warring, the writing contest, and just writing in general. Each of these have a number of points attached to them (in particular, every word you write counts as a point at the end of SPC!) At the end of the month, all the points are added up, and the cabin with the most wins! Here's how it works–

if you win a verse war, 300 points for your cabin.
if you complete a daily, depends on. the daily.
if you complete a weekly, depends on the weekly.
if you submit an entry for the writing comp (more about that coming soon from @suburban-darkness)., 400 points for your cabin.
if you submit an entry for the writing/memory book comp., and it wins gold, 9,000 points for your cabin.
if you submit an entry for the writing comp., and it wins silver, 6,000 points for your cabin.
if you submit an entry for the writing comp., and it wins bronze, 3,000 points for your cabin.
