Project can't load

My browser / operating system: Windows NT 10.0, Chrome 94.0.4606.81, No Flash version detected.

So I was making a game, but then it kept saying it couldn't save. I've dealt with that problem before, so I thought I would just save it to my computer and load it. So I did, and when I loaded it scratch said “That project file that was selected failed to load” and I still couldn't load it after a few more tries. How do I fix this? Yes, I am connected to my internet, I am on the right account, and the project is only 14,000 (rounded) kilobytes large, which translates to 14 megabytes, and 50 megabytes is the largest project possible. What's wrong?

Thank you!

are there any audio files that are longer than around 3 minutes/over 5 megabytes? if so, try trimming or removing those. scratch has a single asset size limit of 5 megabytes.

Okay. I think there may be a large sound, how do I tell the megabytes for the sound file only? And what is the asset size limit? My whole file is 14.3 megabytes, so does that mean I need it to make it only 5 megabytes? Thank you for the reply.

to check the size of all individual assets in a project, first select view in file explorer, then toggle “file name extensions” (if not already enabled), then rename the file extension of the .sb3 file to .zip, then viewing the contents. when your done, rename the file extension of the .zip to .sb3 again.

Okay… I tried that but then it just changed the icon to a stack of books and it still doesn't have the option to “Toggle file name extensions”. I renamed it back to .sb3 and it didn't give me a warning and didn't change the icon. Did I break it?

Okay, I found a way to check the size of the sound, and it is 4.45 Megabytes. I thought it would be too big originally, so I split it in two so it's only like 2.22 Megabytes for each of the largest sounds. Do all sounds combined count or just one sound can't be larger than 5 Megabytes? Thanks

Each individual sound may be up to 10 megabytes, not 5 - I believe that @-gge may have been mixing it up with the 5 MB size limit on project.json.

Also, I should note that Scratch 3.0 does not have a limit on the overall size of a project. You can have a project that's as big as you want, as long as it doesn't exceed the other two limits.

Okay Flowermanvista. Do you have any ideas why this would happen if there is no size limit and how to fix it?

Open the inspector in your browser (Ctrl+Shift+I), and click on the console tab. Then, check for any errors that show up when saving the project. If any do show up, copy and paste them here.

Flowermanvista I just tried to do some editing on it and now it seems to be saving correctly. Is there any way to get back my bigger version or do I have to do half of it again?

In that case, your issue with saving was probably being caused by a server issue or bad internet.

What do you mean by “get back my bigger version”? If you're talking about that one sound file, you can just import the original version again.

Well what I mean by original version is that it stopped saving half way through the project, so now in my project folder on scratch website I have the half version and the full version is only in a file on my computer file explorer. I can't load the full version to replace the half version because it says it couldn't load. I was and am now connected to internet, so it might be a server issue in that case…

I've never heard of a “could not load project” error before - could you upload the full version to GoFile so I can take a look at it?

Okay Flowermanvista, my GoFile account is guest7158674868@gofile.io so you can get the project there and test it out yourself. YES I KNOW IT IS A .ZIP. I was told to make it a zip and check inside and then make it sb3 again but now it's both sb3 and a zip. Also, I didn't see an option to look inside the zip when right clicking.

I can't do anything with that account ID - I need the link to download the file.

In the meantime, try removing the .zip extension so the file is just a .sb3 - that's probably why you can't load the project.
