I'd actually say it's less. You have to change the dropdown each time you drag out the block.

If chains of IFs are your problem, I'd rather suggest you to suggest switches instead.
with (ops), choose these statements {
set [result v] to ((a) + (b))
} if the value equals [+], or {
set [result v] to ((a) - (b))
} if the value equals [-] @delInput @addInput :: control
Unfortunately, somebody have suggested that.

For the dropdown thing, I'll semi-support. It's nice to shorten things up for convenience, but do we really need them?

Support, while you did show a workaround, four if then blocks is very annoying as it takes up way more space than one block.

In fact, I think the multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction operators should be replaced with your idea.
It's more annoying to drag, click, find the operator, click, and put your numbers in than to just drag and put the numbers in.

As for the suggestion, no support – having two different versions of the block simultaneously would be weird and replacing the block brings in the issue of the first point I made.

pretty sure you cant place a variable inside a slider

also, you still need 4 if statements to define the variable

ST only wants to add blocks that open up new possibilities for Scratch and I don't see how this block would do that. The current blocks are fine for most things, and you did list the workaround which will work for the edge cases.

Can you provide a citation for this? The Scratch Design Goals topic says nothing about this, so I doubt this is true.

Ok well I thought I heard that somewhere but I guess not. Regardless, I still think that ST should prioritize adding new blocks if they would open up new possibilities or help a large portion of the community, not just make it slightly easier to make one type of project.
