When JavaScript OR HTML5 becomes deprecated.

Before start, I should note that any release date for Scratch 4.0 is purely speculative, as the ST has said that they aren't working on it at the moment (which would be silly, since their efforts would be better focused on improving the current version of Scratch than making a brand new one). You'll often see people say “2025” as a potential release date; this is also just speculative, based off of the timing of previous Scratch releases.

If it's going to happen, I personally don't believe that it's going to be any time soon; here's my take on it:

In my opinion, I don't believe that Scratch 4.0 is coming out any time soon. JavaScript (the language in which Scratch is written) has been a core component of the web for the past 10 years, during which it has been continuously developed and improved. It's also a core component of any modern web browser, not requiring a plugin like Flash did, and is not controlled by a single private company, but instead is controlled by browser developers. In addition, Scratch 3.0 is hardly complete and is still under active development - we're 2 years and 3 months in and the site still isn't fully transitioned to scratch-www, and Scratch 3.0 itself still has a lot of bugs and other stuff, not to mention Scratch Lab, where the ST is playing with new features that they may or may not be added in the future.

Of course, however, this doesn't cover any potential new web technologies that may appear in the future - it is possible that a new Scratch would be made to take advantage of those, but it's kinda hard to predict what web technologies will be available in the future.

There's no reason ultimately, as 3.0 is fine, and operational. ^^^^

oh ok but microsoft said there will no more windows verisions but now there are making windows 11 so that can happen to the scratch too.
