Why is Javascript's name so similar to Java's name?
The language's name is the result of a co-marketing deal between Netscape and Sun, in exchange for Netscape bundling Sun's Java runtime with their then-dominant browser." It was originally called Mocha, renamed to LiveScript, and then renamed to JavaScript.

Why is Javascript's name so similar to Java's name?
i heard that java was trendy and the developers of javascript wanted in on the hype by calling theirs javascript.
java and javascript are completely different
java and javascript are completely different
disclaimer: sometimes my posts are pretty critical of the scratch team (especially my older ones), but i really do scratch & scratch team. jvvg made a short essay thing about the scratch team, which is a pretty good read, if you want a different perspective for the scratch team's actions.

Why is Javascript's name so similar to Java's name?
If you want to be really pedantic, javascript is the implementation, whilst ECMAScript (European Computer Manufacturers' Association Script) is the language/specification/standard, hence javascript's proper name is not similar to java in any way, other than that it uses the latin alphabet.
But we're not pedantic at all in the advanced topics, so you can safely ignore this post unless you want to learn some debatably useless information*.
* it is left to the discretion of the reader to decide whether this is information that is debatably useless, or sonething useless that is debatably information.
On a serious note, although it had no impact on the name, both languages use C-like syntax, and both are types of coffee (js was also called mocha at some point).

Good evening. I am a gerbil. Are you a gerbil? I know I am. Gerbils are possibly the most important beings in the universe; they are super intelligent and they eat carrots so we don't have to.
If you are reading this, you're probably thinking one of 3 things:
- This dude's not a gerbil, he's a pufferfish/human/bison/whatever other organism/inanimate object you mistakenly believe I am.
- Why am I reading this????????
- I'm hungry
The second one is a valid question, and one that has no satisfactory answer other than that you're really ,really, really bored.
As for the 3rd one - so am I. You're not alone.

Yea they renamed it cuz they had the domain javascript.com The language's name is the result of a co-marketing deal between Netscape and Sun, in exchange for Netscape bundling Sun's Java runtime with their then-dominant browser." Why is Javascript's name so similar to Java's name?
i clearly remember it from some article a few months ago, but it now gives a 404source?Yea they renamed it cuz they had the domain javascript.com The language's name is the result of a co-marketing deal between Netscape and Sun, in exchange for Netscape bundling Sun's Java runtime with their then-dominant browser." i suppose it was false, since i can't find another source stating this, sorry.
