Something I discovered:
Find any app in finder

Click with two fingers and select “Show package contents”

Then open Contents (The only folder) and then PkgInfo and behold:

Edit: It seems that apps like Siri and Control Center say “APPLdlet” instead of “APPL????” Is that how it determines that they are different than the other apps?

Another edit: It seems that pkginfo is deprecated in favor of info.plist
