I can't comment on it due to the laws of “necro”, but if I could I'd update the thread. Instead I'll add some updates in a new thread incase Google will crawl to this new thread.

In Scratch 3.0, backspace can no longer be detected :-(
The project you should search for is “ASCII Key Detector”, not “hacked keys”. The link on that thread is also dead, the project is currently at https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/19204741/ (found on https://scratch.mit.edu/users/griffpatch/projects/?page=2)
