The popularity and feedback dillemma

Hello,

I have come to realize scratch is just like any other social media site. Except it shouldn't be like that. All projects should be equally viewed and played, becuase the more they are played, the more feedback they can get and the more they can grow. I don't mean to be rude, but I was wondering if the scratch team could do something about this.

Thanks,

how would you propose this to work? and what if one did not want their projects to have many views?

aII toasters toast toast, but what happens when there are no longer toasters being produced? will their technology simply become obsolete, with humans moving onto bigger, better things? will toast become a distant memory, written in textbooks of the future as foods us simpler generations ate? who's to say! society is constantly moving, changing, evolving, ideas being built upon, improved upon, theories being proven or disproven. are we but a blip on the timeline? sure, our names may not be remembered, but that's not the point. you can make a change. you can make a difference. you can make the world better, even if you don't know yet. and the first step is to go for it. even if you are afraid of failure. going back to the example of toasters, do you know off the top of your head who invented them? no? have you used one? probably. so, even if you don't remember my name, if I was able to help awnser your question, that is enough. if I was able to help you, even in the slightest way, this could push you to continue with scratch and not give up after the program crashes, and maybe one day learn other programming languages and change the world. everything is a cause and effect reaction, new inventions lead to the technology of the future, and even as the generations of the past are slowly forgotten, their influence lives on to this day, affecting how the world eventually turned out and how it will be for generations to come.

and, without toasters, we wouldn't have toast.

What do you expect the ST (Scratch team) to do about this, exactly? Popular projects get played more because they tend to be on the front page or on top of the explore page. It is no one's fault that they are more popular.

You can do things to find less popular projects, though. Try going to a random person's profile and viewing an interesting looking project of theirs. You could also select the “recent” menu on the Explore page.

i would like to sincerely apologize for the above post.

i am stupid, weird, worthless, and in general a bad person but at least i am decent at platformers.

I see what u mean, and I wasn't saying that the popular people should be suppressed, they a popular for are reason, but I was just thinking, maybe, for example, instead of a studio for featuring projects, the scratch team just picks random projects and asks if they want to be featured or not…

what if the project is inappropriate? would mods review the randomly selected project before sending the request?

I wrote a post here and it didn't save. Great- :/

Whether Scratch is considered a “social media site” is debatable. In what way do you think scratch is a social media site?
All projects should be equally viewed and played, becuase the more they are played, the more feedback they can get and the more they can grow
I consider this physically impossible (sadly ). Mainly since that would require every scratcher to view every project without ever leaving the site. This would be unhealthy and impossible.
I don't mean to be rude, but I was wondering if the scratch team could do something about this.
The Scratch team are doing lots to help un-noticed projects/scratchers get noticed. They feature a project which they think is really good yet not that popular everyday, they set a Scratch Design Studio where people can make projects on a certain theme and add the projects in the studio for people to look at, they assign curators who curate 35 projects each for 24 hours for 7 days and they have a Show and Tell forum for Scratchers to advertise their projects to the community. There's probably other things that I can't think if right now too. The Scratch Team are doing lots to make they Scratch website better and for more Scratchers to get noticed!

It is currently 23:22, as I am typing this.

There's a new animator in town, and that's me…What good word rhymes with me, ree? Hey there! I'm X! Maker of animations, art and games. My favourite type of music is classical music! I use Scratch or play the piano in my free time. =) ‎‏‏‎

Sorry if it's dogpiling here but I think Scratch is pretty fair in terms of popularity. Like -Mini-X- did above, I'll be replying to specific points of your post:

I mean to be fair, it is sort of like one. I can see where you're coming from here with likes and favorites being a big thing for some people, but try your best to not subscribe to that mindset. Just work on your projects and (honestly) expect it to not go on the front page and receive a thousand notifications right away. There's no need to propel yourself into fame unless you make that your goal.

There's millions of projects on this site and probably thousands shared between the time you made this thread and the time I press “Submit” for this reply. I don't know how it would be possible for each project to receive the same amount of attention and interaction (unless they screw with project statistics or something.) If you really want to get more likes than what you have now, maybe stick yourself out there (don't advertise) and find some opportunities to show your projects.

I mean getting feedback from others is helpful, but people are welcome to take ideas from others and rework it into their own projects, so long as they give credit. This next part might encourage people to make the same “generic platformer,” but an example could be to find a platformer project, find the scripts, rework it into your own project, make it your own (with custom sprites, backgrounds, and so on), and share it with credit!

I think I'll move this to the Suggestions forum for the time being; it's not really a question.

This is my forum signature! On a forum post, it is okay for Scratchers to advertise in their forum signature. The signature is the stuff that shows up below the horizontal line on the post. It will show up on every post I make.

I was a Scratch Team member from May 10th 2019 to October 29th 2021.
