I think it would make posting comments a lot easier if we had the option to format. Just being able to bold, underline, use italics, and press enter after a line to separate your paragraphs. It would make things more efficient, and easier to understand.

No support, doesn't seem needed.

Maybe not to you…
OP, can you give some examples?

Support! It would help with making things stand out in comments without having to use custom fonts.

Reallly, huh? Example of where it'd be needed:

This is my message title

this is the text that is unnecesarry.

This is my main point.

And this is the text pointing the reader to the same topic, except older and bigger. Honestly, it feels scummy to do this but finding duplicates is fun

I don't think this is needed… If you take a look at YouTube's comments section, people use the word formats from time to time, and we all know that YouTube's comments section is nothing but repetitive unoriginal jokes. We don't need to increase those kinds of comments here on Scratch.

And? Just because one thing is another thing, it doesn't mean that the another thing is the same thing.

That's not necessarily the point. It could be used to emphasize things, and add a different meaning depending on how you use it. It could really help people better understand comments.

I agree with this sentiment. Just because x website does something doesn't mean that “Scratch will become x website if we add this!!!”

support, I don't want to use BBcode tags to emphasize something in the comments when it doesn't actually work

A potential issue that could arise from using this would be the use of newlines to spam comment sections.

To remedy this issue I propose the following workarounds:

  • Add a dropdown if a comment is over X lines. This way longer comments can be preserved but without restricting shorter ones.
  • Make newlines count for several characters. Perhaps, say, 50 characters. This allows in a no-content message up to 10 newlines, but obviously there must be content for a newline to render. As such, only 8 newlines would likely ever render in a message. That's fairly manageable.

In a dupe I suggested that this be remedied with a scroll bar on long comments
