Introducing my latest fast moving action game - Maze Runner!

IF YOU FIND THE ROBOTS TOO SCARY, GO INTO OPTIONS AND TURN ON PRACTICE MODE!

You find yourself trapped in a featureless maze. The only escape is the elevator your arrived in, but the doors are now locked. The key for the doors is locked inside a metal chest hidden somewhere in the maze. To open the chest you must find three crystals that are also hidden in the maze and drop them inside the chest. Then the key will be revealed.



The maze is patrolled by armed robots that will kill you on sight. You are also armed and can defend yourself. Both you and the robots only have a maximum of three shots at a time, so use them wisely! Your gun can be recharged by walking over the power tiles marked on the floor of the maze by a pentangle.

You have a sophisticated electronic compass that will map the maze as you explore it. Your compass can also detect the positions of the robots to help you avoid them.

Once you have the key, take it to the elevator and the doors will open automatically. The elevator will take you to the next level, where there are even more robots to avoid!

Keyboard Controls:-
Left Arrow/A - Turn Left
Right Arrow/D - Turn Right
Up Arrow/W - Move Forwards
Down Arrow/S - Move Backwards
Space/Enter - Fire

M - View map (hold to view)
P - Pick up object
L - Let go of object
F - Freeze/Unfreeze game

In the options screen you can turn off or on the sound effects, music, and the touch screen controls.
You can also switch the touch screen controls around if you're left-handed, or whatever your preference is.

Hints and Tips:-

• To pick up the crystals you need to stand so they’re directly in front of you (as in the image above), and then pressing P will pick them up.
  
  
• You have 3 lives, as indicated by the three arrows at the top right. They also turn to show you which direction you’re pointed in.
  
  
• This game works best with the sound on, as you can hear the robots coming…
  
  
• It pays to be cautious, and use the map to plan your route. If you run around like a headless chicken you’re going to die a lot!
  
  
• The maze is randomly generated and there are a number of different routes around it.
  
  
• To escape from the maze, you need to obtain the elevator key, which is locked in a chest hidden somewhere in the maze.
  
  
• To unlock the chest, you need to find the three crystals and drop them in. The chest will then open automatically, revealing the key.
  
  
• Use the map often, this will help you plan your route around the maze. The map only shows you where you have already explored, but it can always detect the locations of the robots.
  
  
• In the maze you can only properly see straight ahead of you, so you need to check every nook and cranny for the crystals!
  
  
• If a robot shoots at you, it is possible to shoot their bullet before it hits you. It's risky though! Robots have a maximum of 3 bullets, just like you.
  
  
• To recharge your gun, you need to walk over the recharge points, which are marked on the floor by pentangles.
  
  
• You cannot put down the key.
  
  
• You cannot pick up the chest!
  
  
• Robots will always follow the left wall, but don't get too close to them, as if you touch them you will lose a life.
  
  
• Robots cannot pass over crystals. You can use this information to keep the robots away from you as you explore the maze, by dropping crystals in strategic locations.
  
  
• If you do manage to escape back into the elevator, your reward is a new random level with an extra robot… Well, it's only a game after all!
  

This is a re-imagining of Acornsoft Maze, which was a game for the Acorn Electron and the BBC Micro computer systems, published in 1984. I even recreated the cassette inlay of the original game to make the thumbnail!

Oh OK. What would you do differently?

Good game. Very hard to defeat the robots.

I added a “Practice Mode” you can switch on in the Options screen, which lets you play a level without any robots on it.

If you find the robots too scary but still want to play, I suggest you use this option!

Could you do a YouTube tutorial or something of the sort to teach everyone how to make a basic 3D (kind of) engine like the one in your project? I really like Scratch YouTube tutorials, and 3D is one of the only areas of Scratch I haven't mastered or actually tried.

this is one of the best games you have ever made. i loved it! my brother played it on his phone and he said it worked perfectly. this game is amazing and i can't wait to see more great games!
