Add a volume control (loudness) to the scratch player

I like to program but I also enjoy playing and viewing lots of other Scratch projects. However, I often wish I could change the volume of a running scratch project (separately from the systems volume). For example you might want to have a scratch program running a farm simulation in a different tab while playing a different program - here I would mute the farm sounds, but I'd like to enjoy the audio of the other game.

I know that Scratchers could add such a button to their projects but not many do (I'm also lazy at this). Moreover, it is a lot of work to adjust volume in a project that is playing sounds from different objects.

Therefore I suggest to add a volume control button like that one they have at the Youtube player allowing you to individually adjust or mute projects playing in the scratch player.

Support. Volume control integrated to the player. Like the green flag.

This is partially implemented. If you hold ctrl (command on Mac OS X) and press the green flag, it will play the project muted. Anyways, support! Where would the volume control go, though?

Interesting, did not know that. Still, adjusting when the project is already running would be nice.

Good question. Youtube users expect it in the bottom of the player, but Scratch has its controls on the top, so it should go there. I think if the icon is meaningful (most likely a loudspeaker symbol will do best), it will be found by users on the top as well.

You can already do this though, in the system's volume mixer.

That affects the volume of *all* programs running on your computer. But the idea is, for example, to turn down the volume on a running Scratch project while listening to music on the same computer.

No, in the system's volume mixer, you can control each program, possibly even flash, independently.

Mine only lets you control each window individually, so it can't turn down a Scratch project while playing music in the same window. And that is only if it recognized that the window is there at all, which it doesn't always.
