Sprites Appearing as Question Marks

Now it's happening to my awesomeOS. The js console gave me this error:
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 () (get, line 0)

i just spent a long time making art and it just turned into a gray box with a question mark with a font called “helvetica neue” helvetica, arial, sans serif.

i dont know if this is someone hacking me or a bug in scratch's programming

This kept on happening to my WILD chapter 1 project today. I'm so glad I found this discussion.

When I tried looking at my project, the 6th and 7th costumes of my text/art were either deleted or they turned into that thing.
I freaked out for the first few hours, because I worked really hard on some of the art.
Eventually, I figured I should duplicate the sprite and then delete the original one, and it worked for me. It hasn't happened to me anywhere else so far, but it made me really upset today. My project would've turned out a lot better if that error didn't happen so much.

That's what happened to me. I drew a little fox-creature in vector, and then when I saved and went to re-look at it, the 6th and 7th costumes were replaced with it. I worked on a few of those costumes for hours, and I wouldn't be kidding when I said I almost cried at the sight of it being deleted.

This happened to me also, just earlier today, most of the costumes in my sprite were replaced with question marks, I thought I got hacked XD

Same. I'm glad it didn't get too much of my work though. It would've taken me hours to re-draw that little fox again.

For the time being, if you have another drawing program you can use (Paint, GIMP, etc.), it might be a good idea to create your work in there so if Scratch gets buggy, you have your work in another place and can import it again. You could also try saving your costumes to your device as a backup.

Yeah, I saved all of mine when I first noticed what was going on. Thankfully not too much stuff was lost.

yeah this was bad, i made a folder called project recovery in my scratch folder on my pc

This happened to me about half an hour ago. I wish I'd captured screenshots; it really was quite brutal.

Thankfully, the problem fixed itself when I left to look at another project and came back a few minutes later.

Scratch, I was animation my small animation series, then, when I was looking at Xenoblade music in the project, and it was BLANK! and in the project one of my sprites was a “?” Why does this happen?
