You can also find obsidian in blacksmiths and ruined portals. If you find a completable ruined portal with enough obsidian in the chest to finish it, as well as a flint or a fire charge, you can go to the nether without crafting a single tool.

And also, strictly speaking, it's not always necessary to go to the nether to beat the game, if you use a seed with a naturally spawning 12-eye portal.

A TAS is a set of predetermined inputs that beat the game as fast as possible. This one was planned a lot and played at 1/8 speed or something.
