Better messaging system
I just deleted 215 out of my 218 messages manually, just to save 3 special messages. Now my thumb's sore. So I think the messaging system needs many tweaks:
1. We should be able to archive special messages to prevent them from being deleted from a “delete all”
2. We should be able to sort messages into comments/replies, followers, remixes, and admin messages; and should ideally be able to delete all in a particular section
3. We should be able to “star” some messages. Admin messages should be starred automatically.

1. I would strongly agree, but how will that be welcomed by people? Will they understand its purpose or will they archive all messages thinking it works like emails or other archives?
2. They're still working on this, aren't they? The buttons are there…
3. …and the starred messages stay on top! Wonderful.

LS971. Good point, it needs to be made more intuitive. Maybe archive sends it to the bottom and grays out the delete button, replacing it with “unarchive”? Or call it “save for later” instead?

2. They are, I just pointed out that that's a (welcome) improvement that needs to be made over the old system.
3. Glad you like it.

Better messaging system
There was another thread on which we discussed a few ideas for improving the messaging system. But the goal is to make things simpler, and require less clicks. I'm not sure that adding a way to categorize and star things would help achieve that.
It's likely that some longtime Scratchers will try to delete all their messages, but I actually think we should remove the delete functionality in favor of a “read / unread” metaphor. You shouldn't have to delete anything - just let it slide into the past. But it could still be useful to highlight messages you haven't replied to yet in some way. Not sure how to do that in a simple / clear way.

Well, at the very least highlight the messages that became read on that viewing of the page (so those which were unread before the page was visited) in a differently coloured background.
I was thinking of maybe a read button, which would work exactly like the old site's delete button but would simply unhighlight it instead of deleting it.

LS97No, that basically amounts to deleting, right? I actually agree with Lightnin here, if possible, we shouldn't have to delete period.

Hardmath123Actually, I was kind of going along with Lightnin's idea there.

The messages do still stay there, but they stay bold and at the top until you either click on them or mark them as read.

That sounds good. I still want some way to star certain messages, though.
Maybe a “starred” section/category?

Support.
This suggestion is old, but I like it (“starring” part especially). Even though we no longer delete messages, the rest of it is still valid.

Uh…Can I still post here?
I think, while it's usually best to ignore an argument that you accidentally ended up in, (in an area where you can't just delete the comments altogether) it's harder for children to just let things go on their own, so perhaps this would help with that. I'm not sure, though. If there's an active suggestion like this, please point me to it.

They could delete messages back then? Wow. be grateful
No support because as lightnin said this would make things more complex and messy to deal with.
