What is Project Satellite?

Project Satellite is a bullet heck rhythm game, inspired by Super Hexagon and Just Shapes and Beats. Control a purple dot that revolves around the outer circle as you survive the various bullet patterns that come to the beat of the music. The soundtrack consists of mostly EDM, with a bit of Chiptune and Dubstep sprinkled in.

For now, only a playable demo of the game is available, with the level containing the song “Holographic Landscape” by S U R V I V E.

How to play

AVOID getting hit by the bullets, which are the circle fragments that get emitted from the center circle.

<Left Arrow> and <Right Arrow> to move the purple dot around the circle.
<Space> to perform a dash, a move that will allow you to go through bullets without getting hurt.

The white portion of the center circle represents your health. Run out of health, and you lose.

I need YOUR feedback!
  • How much health should the player have? For now the player starts with 8 HP.
  • Is the dash move overpowered?
  • Is the dash cooldown too short?
  • What music should I add to the game?
  • Suggestions for different types of bullets. Be creative!
  • And of course, please tell me of any bugs that appear in the game.

Plans for the future

I plan on releasing the full game after I design at least 5 levels. New levels will be added overtime after release.

The following songs are candidates that could be made into levels sometime soon (the songs in bold are the most likely):
  • This list is going under some cleaning up!

It looks terrific! I hope to see the real project soon! Also can I know when do you predict that this game will be done?

Most of the engine is done, all I need to do is to make more levels, a menu system, more UI, and possibly a little story for context (but don't expect a full blown story mode) or some balance tweaks.

A Idea you could do is to start off the first stage with just a couple of yellow bullets at a regular pace because having all of them at a fast pace is hard and might discourage players. Then as you go up levels, the bullets could gradually increase speed, while adding the red and orange bullets. I think the dash was perfect, its not too op, and the cool down is nice.

First, the yellow bullets can be easily dodged if you constantly move. The yellow bullets follow the player to encourage them to move. Each level has a different set of bullets and patterns to suit each song. The reason why there are so many yellow bullets is because it represents the synth lead that plays every 1/16 note. The orange bullets represent the bass synth that plays every 1/8 note. The red bullets represent the snare that plays every 4 notes, and even causes the screen to shake to give it extra emphasis.

Welcome to the very first devlog for Project Satellite! If you are wondering what a devlog is, it is a progress report on the state of any game in development.

So far, I haven't made any progress that I could show you, but instead I wanted to work on the lower level engine components of the game (like menus, transitions, and other basic engine features). My goal for this phase of development is to make all of the lowest parts of the game's engine in a way that makes it easier to build upon later, without the hassle of rewriting entire systems whenever I realize that they were inefficient. My next devlog will showcase some actual gameplay and some menu reveals. I have full faith in this game and I wish to make it as polished and as fun as possible.

Until next time,
-Gav
