Make scratch community less accessible for children under 13

Dear @scratchteam,
I like scratch the way it is, but I am still very young for the scratch community and Scratch was made to be a kids programming language, but it turned out to be social media and social media is bad for kids. On scratch, Kids must do:
  • View and create projects
  • View your and others projects
  • Remix projects
  • Delete projects
  • Create projects

I think your suggestion is rejected, if you don't want to participate in the community download the offline editor.
7.2 A 13+ version of the Scratch website or age-restricted content
Scratch is designed for ages 8 to 16, but any content shared on the website must be appropriate for all ages. Dividing the community by making a separate, age-restricted website would not be helpful. Potential restrictions from entering the website (such as a warning, or requiring a parent to answer math equations) would not necessarily stop an underage child from entering the 13+ website.
I personally don't support the belief that scratch is “social media” and that kids shouldn't access it.
don't even quote the dictionary definition of social media

This suggestion extends to age-restricting anything on Scratch, such as viewing specific projects. As a general rule, content shared on the Scratch website should be appropriate for all ages.
Rejected. Also, scratch junior exists, so

Absolutely NOT. Do you even know that this is a KID'S Website? I'm a 8-9 year old. If this was true, people like Me, @Noodlebot743, @-WallyAnimations- and MANY more wouldn't be on here!
I ninja'd someone… or was it the other way Around?

1. Rejected
2. How many kids these days are on REAL social media for your information, it's a lot
3. The social aspect bonds the community and with all the feedback they can receive, people can get better
4. I would honestly get bored of Scratch if it completely removed the social aspect I think others would feel the same
5, Don't take this amazing site away from me

This is a very interesting suggestion, and I'm glad that you're looking out for the younger users of the site. However, I'm not sure that restricting commenting and forum posting is the right way to do this. Commenting on projects is a good way to give feedback. While it is true that mean or rude comments can be posted which may upset younger children, these comments can and should be reported and removing commenting all together would also remove positive feedback.

I also see that there is nothing to do with studios on your list. While studios do have a commenting aspect, refer to what I said above- the ability to comment can be a good thing, and is most of the time. Additionally, what would happen to SDS, a great way for Scratchers young and old to express their creativity- or the Scratch Welcoming Committee, a way to make new users feel safe and welcomed in the community? Removing the ‘social media’ aspect of Scratch also removes the ability to make people feel happy, or to give feedback on their projects, and much more- not to mention that the site would start to feel rather boring and lonely without the social aspect.

I hope this feedback helps you, and I hope you consider what I've said. Keep Scratching!

I would like to add that, without commenting there won't be Propose Projects to be Featured
Without the Forums No Featuring Studios
No commenting, No Front Page Curator Applications Helpers can comment on your application, and many more things shall be removed, No loving and faving no top loved, so with all that, what's left on the front page
Scratch Design Studio, Projects Loved by People I'm Following, What the community is Remixing, What's happening, Announcements

Oh wait…. No more following means
Scratch Design Studio, Projects Loved by People I'm Following, What the community is Remixing, What's happening, Announcements

Most if not all apart from a New Scratch Design Studio announcements of the announcements come from the Forums so we may as well
Scratch Design Studio, Projects Loved by People I'm Following, What the community is Remixing, What's happening, Announcements

You know what, with all that, you may as well say goodbye to the community
Scratch Design Studio, Projects Loved by People I'm Following, What the community is Remixing, What's happening, Announcements
How do you propose New Scratch Design Studio themes or ask for your projects to be added, with commenting
Scratch Design Studio, Projects Loved by People I'm Following, What the community is Remixing, What's happening, Announcements

Well, that's an empty front page, what {people} are remixing

I could go on and on about the effects this would put on the rest of the site, but I hope this has convinced you why we shouldn't do this

First off, welcome to Scratch!
I'll address the issue at hand here. The reason scratch has a Social Media aspect to it is to share creations and get constructive criticism and feedback from other scratchers to improve upon said creations, as well as making healthy connections with one another to become online friends (in a way).
Second, allow me to elaborate as to why scratch is not 13+ (and why other social media platforms are). It's because of two things:
  • The community guidelines
  • Ads (This one might take a bit of explaining)
First, community guidelines states that scratchers need to be respectful, constructive, and friendly. Most people on scratch follow this pretty well, so it's very safe for younger audiences. Most other social media platforms don't have as defined guidelines.
Second, Ads. Notice how scratch doesn't have ads?
This is all thanks to the Child Online Privacy Protection Act. This act doesn't allow ads on sites targeted towards audiences younger than 13. Other sites that have ads on them require you to be 13 because of this.
Hope I helped!

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

As for the actual suggestion, the community is a large part of Scratch, and is intended to give users inspiration and support while they learn to code (although people like me just use it for memes). Taking it away from kids under 13 would go against this part of the Scratch goals. True, social media can be bad for kids, but a community can have benefits too.

Who put an emoji in one of their posts? Removing access from users less than 13 would restrict a huge portion of users, as ages 10, 11, and 12 are some of the most common ages for users joining, as shown here.
