Scratch Link won't detect my micro:bit

When connecting a microbit to the Scratch editor, it asks for the user to enable Bluetooth,
even though the microbits are normally connected via USB. Why?

I've been trying to use my mbit with Scratch 3.0 for a few weeks now, but it just won't connect!
I have done the steps on the microbit help page - Installing Scratch Link, running the hex file, but it doesn't mention Bluetooth.

Here's the screen I get stuck on while trying to connect mine.

I know that a lot of you might not have microbits, so I can understand if this question takes a while to answer.

Edit: Changed the title. This message is still the same.

I haven't really been active much since 2021. I now mostly look at / help with other people's projects, answer questions on the forums and work on stuff in other programming languages like JavaScript. Scratch is still awesome and I don't think I'll be leaving it any time soon. <3

Check out ocular, a Scratch forum search tool by jeffalo that helps find lost posts, or the Hidden Blocks TurboWarp extension I helped create that has a bunch of useful hacked blocks ready to add to your Scratch projects. (PR for details, see the Hidden Blocks category to the left of the editor.)

What's your version of Scratch Link?

Mine is:
Scratch Link 1.3.66 (f8836d8) Win32NT

And it works fine on my download of Scratch Desktop 3.6.0.

It's because microbit uses bluetooth to connect to a computer.

I've tried using both the Online Editor and Scratch Desktop 3.10.2 with Scratch Link 1.3.57.0 on Windows 10.

I think your version of Scratch Link might be too outdated. There was a certificate issue with older versions of Scratch Link that causes it not to work, but that's been fixed in the more recent versions of the direct download version of Scratch Link.

Okay, I deleted the old version and updated to 1.3.66.0. (The same version you're using.) Testing it now…
Wow, the download size is only 2MB?! Why don't they just include Scratch Link with the main editor?

Scratch Link won't detect my micro:bit

Also does Scratch Link actually support USB connection for the micro:bit, or do I have to use Bluetooth?

No, micro:bit can only be connected via Bluetooth.

Are you sure your device has Bluetooth 4.0 or higher? If not then you'll not be able to connect your micro:bit.
