6.3 Notification for being mentioned in comments
Some users would like to be notified whenever someone mentions their username in a comment in the website. Although such an option was considered, it was not added due to the potential for spam. For instance, someone could write @Scratcher multiple times to spam that user's notifications.

You see, but what if you still want to be notified when mentioned in comments? For the same reason the option to leave studio activity messages on/off is not rejected yet, I think it could be very useful for some users, and not useful for some others. However, if you get spammed, you can just turn it off.

Any good of an idea?

It's because studio activity is unwanted in messages by many people. Some people want to know when they are mentioned.

Correct. Now imagine this:

Being mentioned in comments is unwanted in messages by many people (because of spamming). Some people want to know when they are mentioned (for example, if they want to know if users are talking about that person behind their back).

I don't think would do all too much as people could just find out which people have it on and spam them.

No need. Here's fdreerf's three-step guide to finding people who have this feature on:
- Verify the user in question is online.
- Send one @ message that seems legit and once you get a response…
- Spam them

You could do the same thing without even being mentioned in comments. You could spam them by commenting on one of their projects / their profile page / replying to a comment even without mentioning them in comments. Are we just going to turn that off as well?

Besides, it's an option. Just like studio activity messages, you can turn them off if they get repetitive.

Can't you just report these users, just like you already can?

Besides, gossiping has been a big problem lately (at least, I noticed). If they're talking about a user in an area not visible to other users (like in a project's comments on an account no one's ever seen before), then the gossiped user should at least be aware before misconceptions and/or conspiracies occur.

I think it could be a good idea to have it work even without the @ (for example, if you say “Super_Scratch_Bros20” even without the @, you'd still receive the message).

A potential downside would be that namesniped accounts would receive lots of messages. But then, it's only optional to have it on.

The way I see it, it's impossible to end all of it. But, it will effectively stop most of it.

But here's the catch:

No matter how many times you say a word in a comment, it will only count as one message. For example, let's say I say:
