Changing Your Username (READ BEFORE POSTING!!!)

I will give support. Your username will still be in @mentions and replies. I like this suggestion because your screenname will appear all over Scratch, but your username will still stay the same and appear next to your screenname so if you did something bad, the ST will be able to see the username still.

A setup system could be this:

Account Settings:

As this is a bulk action, maybe you could only change your screenname every month

The top navbar can display your screenname

In the forums

Maybe this can be limited for New Scratchers.

There would of course be a filter for inappropriate screennames.

Oh and another suggestion, maybe change the title to “Make a Screenname” or “Change your Nickname” so people don't go right to Rejected Suggestions and copy-paste it here

What else do you think a “nickname” means? I seriously think that what the OP is suggesting is what is rejected.

Read again. The base username will be the same, and is the one that you use to tag people. It's the display name, another nickname that appears near your base username that you can change at will and is just a cover, because it's just a string and has no other functionality.

I don't think this is necessary, but I do think it would be nice to have a nickname, or as Zedthehedgehog would prefer to call it, a screenname.
plus, how bout the nickname also links to your profile. (but your actual username would still be the one to show up in replies)

8.1 Changing usernames
If a user could change their username (or even set a certain “nickname”), this could be very confusing for the Scratch community, especially for those following that user. In addition, this would make moderation of the website more difficult because it would be harder for the Scratch Team to keep an eye on what a user may be doing. The Scratch Team has allowed username changes only on very rare occasions, such as if the username contained inappropriate content or personal information. Generally the Scratch Team does not change usernames on request (such as for reasons like “I do not like my current username anymore”).

However, because of the way that usernames are stored on the server, changing the cases of letters in your username (for example, changing @Za-Chary to @ZA-CHARY) is NOT rejected; you can discuss it on this topic.

I'm pretty sure a display name counts as a nickname.

It was already rejected (I'll get the link momentarily) because it's easily workaroundable in your About Me.

Since @M1mikyu claimed that the password to her original account was lost, that means only the Scratch Team could have closed that.

I'm pretty sure that one's rejected, but even if it's not, this is a duplicate.

I'll ask a moderator whether it should be closed, though. Both of these topics still count as a nickname, according to me.
