Trainee suggestion

Remember when we completely changed the trainee system in January? (Wow, that was only January-) Well, I decided that I don't really like how trainees work! I hate to introduce more things for Dancer to do right now (sorry Dancer), but here's a suggestion:

  1. Change the requirements for joining. People joining the shop must have either experience in another shop or a certain amount of forum posts (20? 40? 30? Who knows, I'm taking suggestions), they must be a Scratcher, and they must agree to the terms (and have the codeword) to join the shop.
  2. If they don't have experience in another shop, a certain amount of forum posts, or they aren't a Scratcher, then they can be a trainee.
  3. Trainees still get fired after two checks, they still don't get to vote (sorry, trainees), and they can still get promoted after responding to three checks (but maybe we can lower it to two?).
  4. With the new system, they'd also be able to become a member once they meet all of the requirements.

If two BoD members back me up, then this can move to a discussion for a few days and then a vote! Also, feel free to suggest ways I can improve this suggestion.

I'm impressed that I remembered/managed to type with proper capitalization for this whole post, I usually type all-lowercase.
Just bumping these two things due to the new page! Also, just so you know, I want to use the Scratch image host thing to host our new banner.

Aaah, what you do, see at the end when it has 100x50 or whatever numbers, you can change them in the link to change the size, it doesn't break the link or anything
For instance, the link for the pic in my siggy is
 https://cdn2.scratch.mit.edu/get_image/project/389238814_690x150.png
but it was originally
https://cdn2.scratch.mit.edu/get_image/project/389238814_100x80.png
I just changed it, and as you can see, the image isn't corrupt!

Hmm…. agreed. I think it works better having a system where everyone has to be a trainee rather than just some people - it makes the shop more organised and gives trainees more time to have questions. Maybe we could relax the trainee rules a little (for instance have more cases where people are allowed to skip the trainee stage), but I think everyone should be a trainee.

That said, I did skip the trainee stage

But here are my suggested edits:
- Make trainees only have to respond to 2 activity checks

Add these reasons that let them skip the trainee stage: (only one needs to apply for them to be able to skip)
- If they take and complete enough orders (we should set a solid number for this)
- If they have worked here before
- If they have experience at other shops (this might be too lax, maybe only if they've worked at a partner shop?
- If they get accepted into BoD (as per usual)

I back you up ah
The trainee system I understand why it was put in place like that, you only want quality workers, but there IS the problem that people will drop out before they become a worker or get impatient and resign. Also, you'll have the same amount of trainees as workers (which is SOOO weird) and that is sorta an un-balance (I don't even quite know how to say ‘not balance’)

I agree with whiteandblackcat for this part:

And I think it'll give more experienced workers a better view of the shop, cause, for example, let's say I left all of the shops I'm a part of (never gonna happen) and went to a different one. If they had to make me respond to three activity checks before becoming a full member, I would not be too happy. I would probably still apply, but it makes the first impression not so great. So I think being sure that if they've worked at a partner shop or something like that, then they'll be promoted would be a good idea.

Honestly, you just have to know the dimensions of your image. For example, I know that the dimensions of the new banner are 690x150, so I changed the dimensions in the link to “690x150” and there wasn't any white space.

Trainee Suggestion Discussion

Okay, everyone's suggested edits to the trainee suggestion are great! Even though the suggestion hasn't gotten two BoD members to back it up yet, I'm going to move the discussion to the studio so that we can discuss further without clogging the thread. When that's done, I'll edit the suggestion and we can take a vote. Go discuss on this comment thread in the studio: https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/25051625/comments/#comments-78711806

Also, I highly recommend that all trainees should take part in this discussion! This suggestion affects you guys, and I want to hear what you all have to say.

Happy discussing!

Edit: Page 282, yes edit. (:
