Why is necroposting banned?
Hi! I have heard that necroposting (posting something repetitive or on something inactive) is not allowed. But I am not very sure why it is banned. I was just curious on that. Can someone please respond?

Why is necroposting banned?
Because it “bumps” the topic up to the first page, taking up space.

From what I remember according to the Scratch Team is that a necropost is fine if it brings something to the conversation (implying it is constructive) and that the topic is still relevant (for instance someone found a solution to a bug or someone wants to give updates on something).
that's partially true, see above Because it “bumps” the topic up to the first page, taking up space.

Yes - that's one of the reasons why necroposting is frowned upon. Because it “bumps” the topic up to the first page, taking up space.
Basically, if a thread is old and its topic of discussion has been resolved (e.g. the question has been answered), then there's really no point for anyone to post on it anymore. Chances are that the thread is outdated (or no longer relevant) and its no longer being watched.
In other words, its similar to having a discussion with your friends. Everyone discusses the topic, but eventually it concludes and everyone moves on. While there are some exceptions, it wouldn't make much sense, for the most part, to bring it up again several weeks or months later because what needed to be discussed has already been discussed. (No point in discussing the whole thing over again, right?

For more information on necroposting, including when its ok or not ok to necropost, see this topic.

That is true, I once supported a suggestion from a forum from 2013, and everyone was like, “StOP neCrOposTInG!!!” But then @Za-Chary , a Scratch Team member came and defended me, saying my post was adding to the conversation. I can't find the link, but trust me, this happened.
