A "Make Solid" block
The unity game engine has rigid body mechanics, but scratch is a learning launguage so gravity and collisions are good for learning on your own. Also you don’t have to have a forever loop with an “if touching” block, you can have it check every time you move, saves processing power.Maybe there could be some advantages to using the old method.

Even though you do have a point, it will make coding too easy. Game development environments like GameMaker don't use that type of easy collision algorithm, so why should Scratch have to fall down the same path?

Sounds like something related to physics blocks in Scratch, and last I checked those were a rejected suggestion
