I love the amount of effort the team took to recreate the art style of old cartoons. Each character was animated the old-fashioned way to get that touch that other attempts at this style don't seem to have.

I heard it took Studio MDHR about a decade and not paying their mortgage for their house or something like that just so they could make Cuphead Definitely paid off though.

What do you guys think of games that have “art style dissonance”, as in a game's content isn't what you would expect from its art style? For example, a game with mature themes that also has a bright cartoony style that looks like something from a Mario game.

Ack I love those kinds of games! For Christmas I got Owlboy, which is pretty much just that!
I don't want to log in to cubeupload rn so I'll just drop a link to the introduction scene instead.

I'm terrible at actually playing the game, but the graphics are beautiful and I adore them so much. I totally agree with you. There really needs to be more games with pixel graphics. They have so much potential and, if done right, look stunning!
