I like them both a lot, but I think as a character Light is more just more interesting. He has a much more dynamic personality, and its always interesting to see what he'll do out of desperation. That and I rarely see characters that give me such mixed feelings. Its pretty hard to pull that off

Right, he has an interesting character, but in a way that makes him more of a villian, but is still the protagonist. Which doesn't mix well with me.

what are some of the shows y'all have watched this month?
during 2016-2018 i stopped bein a weeb so i'm catching up on some of the stuff from that time.
showa genroku rakugo shinjuu was great! i really like these kinds of historical dramas and things that focus on a specific and niche subject. i liked the second season a bit better than the first. while it didn't have the historical setting that i loved, i think it got more interesting thematically and i really loved the unexpected direction it went into its last few episodes. studio DEEN are rather infamous for some shoddy animation quality, but the show was consistently great in terms of art, directing and editing. the actual animation is nothing incredible but it's not a show that relies on it anyway, and it remained consistent in quality. there are two problems i have with it, both being with the first and last episode. the first episode is considerably clunkier in its storytelling than the rest of the show (which may have to do with 30 minutes of it being cut down for time) and the last episode heavily implies something that's deeply messed up and completely ruins the tone and themes of the ending. if it had gone beyond implication it would drag the whole show down but fortunately i can pretend it isn't there. very strongly recommended if you want a more mature and realistic show to watch that has none of the cliches that can bog down an anime

i liked yuri on ice a lot! very glad i'm seeing it 3 years after it aired now that the hype's died down and i could go into it with reasonable expectations. it's no masterpiece like people were saying, but it is a pretty solid blend of sports anime with queer romance. as a gay dude who's an avid pursuer of all queer media, i'm glad to see what's basically an escapist fantasy. too much queer media is miserable and depressing, and while we need that sort of thing occasionally, we also need cheesy and fun shows like this. i'm going to be honest, it does feel a bit like a wattpad fanfic, but really solid writing, directing and character work makes the story so much better than it could have been. while i loved the first half, the second half honestly got a bit too repetitive for my tastes. the queer romance stuff was still great, but it lost me as a sports anime. i'm all for repetition when used purposefully (revolutionary girl utena is one of my faves after all) but i think it it needed just a BIT more variation. if you haven't seen it yet, don't expect a masterpiece, but it's a show that's very enjoyable and easy to watch. you're bound to like it a bit more if you're attracted to men but there's enough there to recommend it to all
