Live Action Disney Remakes

Disney has a problem. They keep remaking the old Disney classics and making them worse than the original. It's going on for a long time and it's VERY annoying.
So here's a topic to discuss them.

Released Remakes
  • The Jungle Book (1994)
  • 101 Dalmatians (1996)
  • 102 Dalmatians (2000)
  • Alice in Wonderland (2010)
  • The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010)
  • Maleficent (2014)
  • Cinderella (2015)
  • The Jungle Book (2016)
  • Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016)
  • Pete's Dragon (2016)
  • Beauty and the Beast (2017)
  • Christopher Robin (2018)
  • Dumbo (2019)
  • Aladdin (2019)

Upcoming Remakes
  • The Lion King (2019)
  • Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)
  • Lady and the Tramp (2019)
  • Mulan (2020)
  • Cruella (2020)
  • The Sword in the Stone (????)
  • Pinocchio (????)
  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame (????)
  • Lilo & Stitch (????)
  • The Little Mermaid (????)
  • Untitled The Jungle Book sequel (????)
  • Rose Red (????)
  • Pocahontas (????)

Yes, I got all this information from Wikipedia.

I guess Disney's dry on ideas and just wants to keep making more money. I heard live-action is easier than animation.

They've really started picking up the pace on their live action remakes in the mid-2010s. If we based the idea that “Disney ran out of ideas” entirely on this list, which movie would you say is where that idea applies?

They re-made the same movie twice. In 2016, they re-made three movies and in 2019, there are FIVE remakes.

Yeah I dont really like this trend but the fact that there is going to be a Notre Dame remake catches my eye.

It's nice to see the classics being remade into live action, but I agree, it's kinda getting annoying, and it seems like Disney is running out of ideas as @PrincessPandaLover said, but I am kinda curious about the Lion King one TBH.

this isn't done because they're running out of ideas. ideas for good movies will always exist. these constant remakes and reboots happen because they're easy money from being a recognizable brand. the added bonus is that disney will get a copyright renewal on the properties (a lot of their work is based on public domain stories but the elements they made up, which is quite a lot, are still copyrighted). many of those good ideas have been thrown away in favour of these remakes because disney is a soulless corporation whose goal has always been to make the most amount of money possible over artistry. what else is new

Yeah, they were working on a movie called Gigantic which looked pretty cool, but they cancelled that. Probably so they could spend more time on remakes.

I agree with this, in fact, remember Disney Infinity? Apparently, just because they weren't making millions upon millions of dollars, they stopped developing it. Disney Infinity 1.0 used to be around $60, or more from what I remember, now it's free on the Nintendo eshop. But I wouldn't say Disney is a soulless corporation.

I know they have original ideas, but when most of their upcoming movies are re-hashes of older movies it comes across as lazy.

wait, i got a question:
They say that these live-action remakes are unoriginal, but
aren't the original movies somewhat too?
because they were based on already existing stories?

Disney did not follow the original stories closely though

Do you think Disney would do a live-action remake of a Pixar film?

Oh yeah. Remake Cars 2 while you're at it.

Actually, a Cars 2 Remake would be on the same level as the Sonic Movie, HORRIFYING

The Lion King remake came out, and the Rotten Tomatoes rating is 59%. And this is the Critic's Consensus.

While it can take pride in its visual achievements,The Lion King is a by-the-numbers retelling that lacks the energy and heart that made the original so beloved–though for some fans that may just be enough.

Just as I expected.

Also the Mulan trailer came out and Mulan is strangely missing.
