What do you mean by the scratch blocks tool? The Scratchblocks on the forums still exist.

They mean in the editor, there used to be a guide which showed you what each block did. It isn't here anymore.

Well, in many programming languages, you have to go online and check the documentation. In some code editors, typing the name would give you a very rough definition, but when it comes to computer programming it's usually either memory or documentation.

I guess they're trying to teach people how to read code documentation, since it is a very important skill.

You can still download the 2.0 editor the blocks all have the same function that were in 1.4 and 2.0

Yeah, the tool was helpful for new scratchers. It was removed when Scratch 3.0 came about. But still, it was an important part of the editor and it was helpful for new scratchers, so they ought to bring it back.

I think the “Help” drop-down option in the editor was probably never added into Scratch 3. If you do need information about those blocks, you can download the Scratch 2 offline editor and see the help menus there.

Again, in my opinion, it was removed to teach people how to read documentation. Knowing how to do that is very important in programming.

I personally don't really want it, though. It just feels more natural to read documentation.

That's just my opinion.

But yeah, I'm assuming that something like it would be added back in in the future. I guess they are still smoothing out some of the other stuff.

I'm not sure if there was a conscious decision to remove it, but we have tried to add a lot of useful tutorials as a way of getting help: https://scratch.mit.edu/ideas

If you think the help tool would be useful to have still, why not bring it up in the Suggestions forum?
