Help to Create a Free Fantasy Setting for all Scratchers!
What is this collaboration?
Originally started by @TheRealNetherBefore, this collaboration aims to create a pre-made fantasy world with which anyone on Scratch can do what they like: create roleplays, make games, write stories; you name it, users can do it. This world will be an expansive creation, essentially being all the worldbuilding you'd need for a story. The intended genre for the world as of now is fantasy, because this allows everyone who will be contributing the most creative freedom.
What do we have so far?
We currently have a wiki under works, being produced by clarence112. So far contributors have decided this will be a medieval fantasy world and have begun work on the species inhabiting it.
The Elvish language is here.
How can I use this in one of my works?
Currently, you can't as there is not enough detail for you to really work with. In future, you can use the setting as you please but must credit the world and everyone involved- a handy post containing all collaborators usernames will be made for you to link to.
This sounds great- sign me up!
If you would like to apply to be an official collaborator and have your work credited, fill out the form below. You do not have to stay for the whole duration of the worlds creation and can in fact leave the team and still have your work credited, however, you must let everyone know if you are going to leave or be be absent for large periods of time.
Application form:
Name: this is what other collaborators will call you
Activity: roughly describe how active you are on Scratch
Job: describe what contributions you would like to make, this could be general worldbuilding, something specific (e.g character creation) or a talent of yours you would like to apply to the project (e.g mapmaking)
Examples: provide a link to something you've made before that shows you can do your job

Okay now that we got (I think almost everything) sorted out we can get back to bisness.
I think we should create some sort of calendar system for our world to help keep track of the chronology and stuff.

Yeah, that's smart. I've got to go now, but I'll try to brainstorm some ideas.

No, that's what they put on their application. It was a bit of a joke afterwards. I'll ask if they want to change it, though.Found a typo in the OP. -snip-

Help to Create a Free Fantasy Setting for all Scratchers!
I'm copying over a bunch of stuff from the old thread.
The dwarven kingdom:
The dwarven kingdom is the homeland of the two races of dwarves. They used to be only one race, but long-term separation due to lifestyle choices has lead to minor physical differences. The two races have their own rules, rulers, and territory, but are still united as one country.
Mountain dwarves:
Slightly taller than the other race of dwarves. Very mechanically inclined, nearly everything in their half of the kingdom is powered by steam. Their creations and buildings tend to be made from brass and oil-soaked wood.
Cavern dwarves:
Slightly wider than the other race of dwarves, and have larger beards. They spend most of their time underground, their half of the kingdom is the largest exporter of raw minerals and wrought armor/weapons. Their structures tend to be built into rock, and usually are made from plain wood and wrought iron.
Orcs are humanoid creatures that range in height from about 7 to 9 feet tall. They are somewhat physically similar to humans but have thicker brows and tusks. There is minimal difference between male and female Orcs
Orcs are generally split into four groups- north, south, east and west. Northern Orcs are blue and tend to wander in small groups In the mountains- they are some of the bigger Orcs. Southern Orcs are purple and live in small villages by rivers. Eastern Orcs are light green and live in small forest communities- they are some of the smaller Orcs. Western Orcs are dark green and live in large towns where they tend to farm.
Dragons:
Dragons, much as you would expect, are elemental lizard-like creatures. There are a great many species of dragons, but every species has the same eight types: Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Aether, Matter, Energy, and Entropy.
Fire dragons are your classical dragon type and are exactly how you would expect them to be.
Water dragons are also work in a way that is quite expectable, they can breathe ice and water.
Air dragons work a bit different, they breathe strong winds and clouds, and can weakly control the weather.
Earth dragons can breathe pretty much any material you could expect to find underground. They can also weakly control geologic processes.
Aether dragons cannot breathe anything special, but they make up for that with their special abilities. They are very in-tune with the universe and can warp space at will, allowing for quick travel and short jumps through time. They also have access to higher spatial dimensions.
Matter dragons, like their space counterpart, cannot breathe anything special. They have the ability warp solid objects, rendering any non-magical barrier totally useless against them.
Energy dragons can breathe raw energy, electricity, radiation, and unfocused magic.
Entropy dragons can breathe the absence of energy if that makes any sense. Their breath sucks the heat, movement, magic, and other energy out of anything.
There is no way to know what type a dragon will be before it is born, as their type is not genetic. Their coloration is also non-genetic.
While most dragon species are wildly different, they all share the same basic traits: High intelligence, powerful magic, telepathic communication, claws, wings, horns, sharp teeth, forked tongues, and slit pupils.
Despite their strong resemblance to lizards, dragons are actually egg-laying mammals. They are not, however, related to platypuses as dragons re-evolved eggs. Their closest living relative is the pangolin.
While most dragons are as tall as humans, there are a few outliers when it comes to size. Two examples of this are the rare mountain dragon (size, not location), and the almost-indistinguishable-from-a-normal-rabbit-and-just-as-good-at-jumping bunny dragon.
The body shape of dragons can also be very different between species. Of course, there are Eastern, Asian, and Wyvern style species, but there are also some non-standard dragon styles as well. Quite a few species are basically snakes with wings, while some are more anthropomorphic.
Most dragons are quite civilized and tend to integrate well into most societies, and use their unique abilities to fulfill societal niches.
-While they look mostly like regular bunnies and can have straight or floppy ears, they have horns, tails, and claws like dragons. They also have all the powers and intelligence that regular dragons have, and are very good at jumping.
-They usually do not have wings, however, there can be exceptions. Note by clarence112: conflicts with previously stated requirements for dragons.
-They can be anywhere from as big as a normal rabbit to large enough to ride. However, they are usually quite small yet somewhat larger than a normal bunny.
-Part bunny, part dragon. Not much else to say here.
Yes, definitely cooldowns on all special abilities, as well as limitations on duration of the abilities. The time should also change based on the dragon's individual power level and what they are trying to do.
Fire - Based on how big and hot the flame is
Water - Based on volume and temperature of water
Earth - Breath based on volume and density of mineral, geologic powers based on area affected
Air - Breath based on gust strength, weather powers based area affected
Aether - Wormholes based on distance to travel. Max time jump and max time spent in higher dimensions set by dragon's power level
Matter - Based on volume and density of objects affected
Energy and Entropy - Based on how many watts of energy are added/removed
All right. Let's get these elves.
Type one: Fae Elves
Fae elves are evil gremlins. Somewhat related to Dark Elves (both kinds) Itty bitty. They screech a lot.
2: Light Elves
Average archer elf type people. All glowy and kinda creepy.
3: Holiday Elves:
These ice elementals tend to be extremely nice, but they kill people with kindness… Literally.
4: Dark Elves (the dwarflike kind)
Actually, kinda short, like the svarltalfs of Norse myth. Sometimes they live where dwarves do and just claim themselves as dwarves.
5: Other Dark Elves:
The “normal” kind of dark elves. Like… Basically Dark Link from Loz, except as a species.
6: The Half Elves:
They basically look like humans. The only distinction is that their ears are a bit pointier.
Little tidbit on draconic magic:
When a dragon uses generic magic (think spells, like telekinesis or enchantment) its horns glow.
When a dragon uses its innate magical abilities (geologic control, weather control, wormhole creation, matter warping) its front claws glow.
A dragon's telepathic abilities produce no glow.
A dragon's magic color is always the same as its eye color.
Orc Update, also a guide to how I kind of want to layout the species, though some sections aren't utilised hyet as these areas need further expansion.
Species: Orc
Phisiology: Humanoid, ranging from 7 to 9 feet tall. They have thick brow lines with fair eyebrows and small tusks in place of lower canines. Their noses are somewhat dog-like and they have large pointed ears. There is minimal difference between male and female orcs.
Variants:
Northern- Blue mountain nomads with smaller ears and bigger bodies than average.
Southern Purple orcs that live in fishing villages by rivers.
Eastern- Light green, big eared and small bodied forest nomads.
Western- Dark green farmers who live in large towns.
Diet: Orcs are omnivores. They tend to eat fruit, nuts, berries and cooked meat, though the latter makes up the majority of their meals.
Lifestyle: Orcs tend to wander nomadically around their territories- even the village-dwelling Orc have nomadic tendencies, though these often come into fruition with hunting and gathering. They are solitary but have strong and loyal bonds to community, having many festivals and celebrations throughout the year. Orcs tend to find a role in their society (e.g: sewing, hunting) and fill it for the rest of their lives.
Relationship with Magic: (under construction)
Locations: Northern Mountains, Southern Rivers, Eastern forests, Western plains.
Species: Ogre
Phisiology: Ogres are huge creatures standing at roughly ten feet and weighing about a tonne. They have human coloured skin covered in light, fuzzy hair along with short, wide noses, big tusks and short, stubby tails. They are near-ungulates, like elephants. Their ears are floppy.
Variants:
Hornback- as the name suggests, these Ogres have horns on their backs.
Rat tailed- Unsurprisingly, these Ogres have rat-like tails
Thick Furred- Does this really need an explanation?
Diet: Ogres are mostly carnivores, and will eat anything they can catch, sometimes including other Ogres.
Lifestyle: Ogres live in small family packs composed typically of parents and children, though close relatives and friends can sometimes be found in these packs. Ogres can also pack bond with pretty much anything and therefore Ogre packs can often be accompanied by all kids of creatures.
Relationship with Magic: (under construction)
Locations: Northern Mountains
A Detailed Profile On Belluai

Aging:
Children stay in the pack; at coming of age they live alone for five years before rejoining a pack
COMING SOON!
History:
• General history of species:
• Any significant events (wars, revolutions, etc) in this species' history that has affected them:
• If this species is just an animal, has it been domesticated by another species? If so, how was it domesticated?:
• How has this species evolved to its current state?:
• Are they aware of this evolution? (meaning do they know about their pre-evolved ancestors):
• Have any “special messages”, traditions or beliefs (eg. myths, prophecies, folklore) been passed down through the generations of this species' evolution?:
Here's an idea: anything that devotes enough time studying and learning magic can use it, but some species learn it easier than others.
Belluai tend to live in the northwest, but some will grow an attachment to a human, elf, or most commonly, ogres. They have a diet of wild berries and shrubs, or if need be, maple saplings. They also eat salmon (or do they not have earth fish on this island?) and tuna and if in dire need of food, they will eat a carcass.
Dwarven AutomataGeneral Info
The dwarven automata are a rather interesting “species”. They are the only “living” thing to be entirely artificial. Due to the fact that they are built to order, their physical appearances vary widely between individuals. Typically, though, there are a few aspects that they all share. They are built out of dark wood paneling and wrought iron, with ornamental brass accents. Their heads are always cubes or cylinders and prominently feature their eyes. Said eyes are always red, green, blue, or clear, with each eye only being able to distinguish one color. While they only need a red, green, and blue eye to see as well as we do, they typically have a fourth clear eye to help with different brightnesses of light. You will usually find their boilers and thaumium tanks on their backs. They usually do not have legs, instead relying on wheels, treads, or rails. (Components (fig 1). Head (fig 2). Eyes (fig 3). Thaumium tank and filter (fig 4).)
Language
Due to their lack of mouths, dwarven automata rely on telepathy for communication. As such, they do not have a language and can talk with any creature.
Characteristics in Battle
You would not want to bring an automaton into any kind of skirmish. The constant whine of the steam turbines driving their pumps will destroy any attempt at sneaking, they move slowly enough you can just walk away from them, and most magic users can easily ruin their spell matrixes.
Diet:
- Water
- Coal, wood, lamp oil, or anything that can burn
- Liquid thaumium
Sounds
- Bubbling
- Hissing
- Creaking or squeaking
- Fire crackling
- Constant high-pitched whine
Strengths
- Very strong
- Unaffected by a wide range of weather conditions
Weaknesses
- Slow
- Loud
- Cannot withstand magic
You have most likely heard of thaumium before. After all, it's the only material used for constructing multi-use spell matrixes and the arcere is defined as “the magical current required to transmute one gram of refined bauxite into metallic thaumium in one second.”
As the definition for arcs implies, Thaumium is made out of magic-infused refined bauxite. As magic is added the bauxite first turns into metallic thaumium; then when it is oversaturated with magic, it destabilizes into liquid thaumium.
Link to the elvish language because good gravy I am not re-creating all that formatting.
I think it might be somewhere in between. Think about it like drawing or painting. There are people who can make beautiful art that hangs up in museums and there are people who can't draw a straight line. The second group would see the first group as amazing, extremely skilled people. The first group would see themselves as people who like to paint a lot and got good as a result. So basically magic is viewed by the general population (say, they can light a match but not many other things) as something amazing and powerful that they can barely even begin to do, by anyone with a little bit of skill (maybe they can start slightly bigger fires in fireplaces, bring books to them with a snap of their fingers, a few things like that) as something that's possible but extremely complicated and difficult to achieve, by people with a lot of expertise (think witches who can heal, fly, etc.) as just a skill that's pretty hard but doable, and by the great magic-users (who can do pretty much anything within the limits of the system) as just a thing they practiced and then got really good at it.
That got long but hopefully you can tell what I mean.
I liked the idea of it being a bit like origami (I forget who brought that up). So there's a magical energy surrounding all things, and you can make little folds in it to change the way things work. Different areas of magic need different patterns of folds, like how folding a square into a smaller square needs different techniques than folding a square into a crane. Some folds would be like little creases in the energy, that flatten out quickly, like summoning lightning. Sometimes you might fold a piece of energy into a new being. Sometimes you might enchant a weapon or something by making permanent folds in its magical field. Sometimes words spoken aloud or physical spell ingredients might help control the folds to get the desired outcome. That's the idea I have, anyway.
We already have rune-based magic, but we don't really have anything about how it works.
So, taking a modified version of the origami idea, and combining it with some concepts from science and biology, I've come up with this:
- Magic is simultaneously a fabric and an energy field (imagine it as radio waves made of blankets if that helps)
- Magic needs two things to work: the right folds (which can never be made permanent), and an energy source.
- All natural living things can collect the required energy on their own, but anything artificial (like the dwarven automata) need their own energy source (like the liquid thaumium the automata run on)
- If you want a spell to be permanent, you need to write it using runes
- Here's the biology-inspired bit: Just like how DNA is a set of instructions on how to fold proteins, runes are a set of instructions on how to fold magic
- The material the runes are made out of is what transfers energy into the magical field, with metallic thaumium being the most efficient.
How's this sound?
- The material the runes are made out of is what transfers energy into the magical field.
- The efficiency of the energy transfer depends on the specific material and the effects of the resulting spell.
- While the language the runes are written in doesn't matter that much, older languages typically yield better efficiencies.
- Pure materials perfectly suited for the required spell typically achieve efficiencies of 75%.
- Like electrical resistors, inefficient runes convert wasted energy into heat.
- Metallic thaumium is the only material that can be used for any rune-based spell, but it rarely exceeds 50% efficiency.
- Mixing other materials into metallic thaumium yields the best possible efficiencies at ~96%, but drastically loses efficiency for spells that don't align with the added material.

Help to Create a Free Fantasy Setting for all Scratchers!
Some more: I'm copying over a bunch of stuff from the old thread.
-snip-
I think we should come up with the origin of the races.
Here’s my idea:
All humanoid races originated from the An-cines. They’re an ancient and mysterious race that have long disappeared. From them developed all the other races. What impact they had upon the modern races often play central roles in the culture of this world. They’re the common thread that ties all the races together.
I think we should begin initially with just the basic geography (make sure that's all correct) then move onto constructing the history and culture of the world. I think based on the world pieces we have so far, it might be nice to go for a colder, northern climate- I mean, we've got mountains, forests and rivers. There is a process that I think we should follow for creating the various cultures in the world.
1. Geography
What natural resources do they have? What is the climate like there? The land? Is it landlocked or surrounded by seas? Who are it's neighbors?
2. History
Why and who might people settle here? What might people need to do to survive here? What beliefs and ideals would form as a result? How did the government, economy, etc. develop? How old is this society compared to it's neighbors. How might they react to the existence of this culture? So on and so forth.
3. Culture
How are things going now? What event or changes are currently happening?

There are a few options we could go: Okie we need a world name. Any suggestions?
- Have the world name be just a title, and not what it’s actually called in universe.
- Have a single world name that it is used both in universe and out.
- Have there being multiple names that are used for different in universe languages.
- Some combination of multiple of these options.
