Scratch 3.0 Fill backdrop in vector mode...?

I've noticed that filling the backdrop in vector mode is tricky. Filling the backdrop in bitmap mode is simple. In vector mode (default now) either you have to make a huge rectangle take up the whole space OR you have to convert back and forth from bitmap to vector.

Is this a bug or something I'm just not saavy with? Maybe I'm doing something incorrectly…

Scratch 3.0 Fill backdrop in vector mode...?

In 2.0, there was a giant white rectangle already put in place in the default backdrop if you went into vector mode. 3.0 doesn't have that, so you have to put in the rectangle yourself (recall that fillbuckets in vector editors require closed shapes in order to work correctly).

Sadly, my forum signature was eaten by an evil kumquat.

That's kind of what I suspected. Thank you for the explanation. I'm concerned that my students will have a hard time understanding this initially, but it'll prompt a good conversation about vectors vs bitmap.

Even in 2.0, you could never just fill in the background by itself: it had to be in a square. You can't fill in “empty spaces” in vector. You can only fill something if it is a shape, or just the contour of a shape, but you can't draw a shape and fill it in.a s far as i know.

I hope I was helpful!
