Changing Usernames
I think that changing usernames could be a good idea. The Scratch Team could put a limit on how many times you can change your username. Some people may not like their usernames after awhile. curiouscrab has a point, also though. Changing usernames can be a possibility, but it needs some more discussion about pros and cons before we can make a decision.

Changing Usernames
I just want to change my name from “sccar3” to “Sccar3”. Capitalization makes it look more professional and I also like the way the two larger characters look at the edges of the word.
I made my account five years ago when I really couldn't care less about spelling or capitalization. I actually thought it was “kule” to purposefully misspell words.

No support. You've gotta put a lot of thought into your usernames! If you don't like it create an alt account.

I think we should be able to change our usernames once every 2 years or something. Or in the first 5 minutes after creating your account, incase you spelled it wrong.

11. Changing your usernameDone. No changing usernames. Denied by the ST. Final.
The software architecture isn't designed to handle it. It would also be very confusing to everybody if you did change your username.

How about this: we are able to change our names. then, after we change it, everyone gets an email saying ‘' so and so just changed his name to so and so’'. then everyone wi be able to know that someone changed their name and won't be like WHAT???? then everyone will be happy, and it's a win- win for everyone. Now, won't that be a lot better?

yeah, I know about that part, but then everyone will stop complaining. besides, a lot more people agree with me than disagree. and, I already reported it. its really reasonable, don't you think?

that part, but then everyone will stop complaining. besides, a lot more people agree with me than disagree. and, I already reported it. its really reasonable, don't you think? No. You mean every user will be emailed when one person changes their username? God, do you really know how many people there are registered on the scratch website? Let me tell you. There are, as of this moment, 3,417,183 users registered on the website. So you're saying every one of those 3,417,183 users should get emailed every time one person changes their username? yeah, I know about

NO! only the people that know him/her and are following him/ her. are you saying that every 3,417,183 users are following 3, 417,182 other people that they don't even know/like?

that part,Well yeah, I know about that part is really important. If it's been officially denied permanently, then it isn't going to be implemented.
agree with me than disagree.Does it mean anything if a lot of people who don't understand what “final” means agree with a suggestion that is not going to be implemented? but then everyone will stop complaining. besides, a lot more people
If you think it's reasonable to re-code an entire website simply to put in a suggestion which could cause confusion and is basically unnecessary, then you've probably never really done any server-side scripting. its really reasonable, don't you think?

I dont really support but to be positive.
Minecraft is making a brand new system called: UUID.
It lets you change your username but if you try to ban someone it stays.
UUID would display on the user page for admins, the forum and projects for admins. So if they do change their username they`ll be able to track them.
Also the new user page link would be: scratch.mit.edu/users/<uuid> but the normal would still work! Also if the username is changes it would send a bot to change all usernames with the same uuid to the new username, but for the admins the uuid displayes over the name.
Also a username change once every 3 months? Or 1?

Users could get in trouble and when a user tells the Scratch Team they might say UserA is being bad, but UserA changed their name to UserB and now there is lots of confusion and the user gets away with doing things. Also, your profile's URL might have to be changed which is a pain. I think it's best not to have this implemented.
I deny.
It would be nice to change your username…
But curiouscrab has a point.
I think you should be able to give yourself a ‘nickname.’ So you will be stuck with the name you registered with, but you could put a nickname if you'd like. For instance, my nickname would be Braxbro. So it would display your username on your profile with, in parentheses, (Goes by ___________). All instances of your username (In comments, forum posts, etc.) other than your profile would be changed to your nickname. So links to people's profiles and all would still be valid. AND when reporting that user, if it shows the username of the person reported, (I don't know; I am not ST.) would show the TRUE username. No using nicknames to get out of trouble. So partial support, but I think this would be to complicated, so if the ST says no, then I deny.
