“Becca!” Madeline called to her sister. “What, Maddy?” Rebecca shouted back rushing after her sister. “Did you forget?” Madeline said in a low afraid voice when Rebecca had come closer. “No, but I thought that was at 5:30!” Rebecca responded in a low voice. “No! It’s at 3:45, in five minutes!” Madeline whispered. Rebecca slapped her hand on her forehead. “How could I forget when my older sister was getting married?” Rebecca said, to herself. “I don’t know Becca, but we better hurry up!” Madeline responded, before running as fast as her ball gown would let her go toward the castle ballroom. Rebecca gave herself another slap, before rushing off after her sister.
The two princesses ran to the castle ballroom for their sister, Princess Laura Reynolds was getting married. “You know, it’s odd to think that soon, Laura will be named Laura Fox, since his name is Rogan Fox,” Rebecca commented. “It is odd, do you like Row?” Madeline asked. “I do, it isn’t like he is terrible! We better hurry up, it’s almost starting and, it’s not princess like to be late.” Rebecca urged. They rushed the last bit of the way until they reached the big metal doors, open wide for the guests. “It’s always so nice to see mom on the throne…” Madeline commented as they gracefully walked through the doors. “Wait, where is mom?” Rebecca asked. Their mother was not actually sitting on the throne. “Guards!” Madeline called, urgently. Their favorite guard Sir Maxwell Weston walked over, with a sad look on his face. “I am very sorry to say, your mother was killed minutes earlier, by a terrible person. They were not caught, but someone took her body since it is not here anymore.” He told the twins in a melon colony tone. They cried, until the wedding started, in which they had to look good, for their sister, as they had promised.
The wedding started and the entire town bells rang, as Laura and Rogan became husband and wife. “Becca, if mom died, does that make Laura the queen?” Madeline asked. “I guess so, Maddy. I am going to figure this out though! Mom can’t go missing without an explanation, or body.” Rebecca responded determinately. “Well, whatever you do, I am in on. We are twins for a reason.” Madeline responded. “I now announce, Queen Laura Nicole Fox and King Rogan Spencer Fox!” The head guard announced. Everyone cheered at the new couple, and the new king and queen. “I wonder if I’ll ever be Queen since I’m youngest by a second.” Rebecca sighed. “If I ever am, you will be too. We both will, Becca.” Madeline told her sister. “Aww, thank you, Maddy!” Rebecca responded.
A few days later, a sad cloud filled the entire castle. Everyone in the castle was mourning over their Queen’s death. They laid many jewels of the castle in a chest before placing a marvelous grave, made by Rebecca, and Madeline on top. The rock had a large mockingbird engraved on it, painted a robin egg blue, and with many jewels on top. The stone had Queen Hannah Riley Reynolds carved in neat small print. At the bottom, it had a small quote that she had said once. “Even when I die, I’ll still be around. Then when I die again I will still be in your heart.”
“Hey, Becca! Do you want to help me figure out what happened to mom?” Madeline whispered to her sister when they were in bed. “Sure! What do you think happened, or do you have any clues?” Rebecca responded. “Not yet, but I do think the quote on her grave was a clue,” Madeline whispered. “I do hope you have more tomorrow! We have a party on the twenty-eighth of October, for the funeral. If people don’t know what happened they will be very mad. It is their Queen. Anyway, Night.” Rebecca commented. “Night.” Madeline sighed as she drifted off into sleep.
The sun glinted through the windows of the castle bedroom. Rebecca slowly opened her eyes and faced Madeline. Maddy’s little nose was pointing upward, and her eyes were peacefully closed, her soft lips curling into a tiny smile. Rebecca let out a sigh, of happiness as she walked toward her sister's bed to wake her up. She tapped her sister a couple of times before Madeline’s eyes slowly opened blinking toward her sister. “Good Morning!” Madeline told her sister cheerfully. “I found a secret note in my bed.” Rebecca told her in a serious tone. “Oh.” Madeline said, knowing it was going to be a serious day, not a fun day like she had wanted. “What did it say, Becca?” Madeline asked. “Well, it said to travel east, then west, then north, then south.” Rebecca responded. “Wait, wouldn’t you just come back here?” Madeline asked, the more logical of the two. “Well, you would go towards Aldian, then back toward here. Then you would go toward Slimpy, then back toward here. However, it depends on how far you go in each direction.” Rebecca responding, desperately wanting to save their mother. “We can decide later, let’s get ready first.” Madeline said. That ended their conversation.
Madeline sat up in the bed, and pulled off the covers. “WAIT! Under you is a slip of paper!” Rebecca shouted, grabbing the little slip under Madeline. “It says 100, 200, 600, 50!” Rebecca read. “Becca, that must mean go 100 meters east, 200 meters west, 600 meters north, 50 meters south! Then we must get where we are going!!” Madeline responded excited. “We need to devise a plan, Maddy. So we can sneak away and find what this mean.” Rebecca said.
They parted ways off to do their regular saturday morning business of brushing their hair, eating breakfast, and feeding the cats. They made their beds and went to talk to Laura. “Hi, Laura!” Rebecca exclaimed as she walked into her room. Laura turned with a frown. “That is very un- princess like, Rebecca!” Laura exclaimed. “You need to be better than ‘Hi’ as queen I say you should not go to the community school! They are a very bad influence on your speech!” Laura told her. “But, Laura! Just because you are so suddenly a Queen doesn’t mean you can choose my life! And oh how dreadful lonely it would be being here in the castle all day.” Rebecca wailed. “That was very rude of you! Apologize to your sister!” Laura screeched. “I wasn’t trying to be rude! I was only saying, a day without nature, and without even Hailey!” Rebecca responded. At that Laura rolled her eyes, and Rebecca left the room.
Hailey was Rebecca and Madeline’s best friend at the local school. They lived in the town of Gulider, and went to the local school. Their mother thought that it would be smarter for their education to go to a public school. Madeline was the best at Mathematics, and Science. Rebecca was much better at History and Writing. When Madeline and Rebecca where together in the hall they decided to discuss again. “So what do you think? When should we go follow the map?” Rebecca asked. “I don’t know.. Maybe this afternoon!” Madeline responded.
They continued discussing and walking at the same time, which is never a good idea, until they ran into a wall. “Ouch!” Rebecca groaned, as she sat up. They studied their surroundings. “Where are we?” Madeline asked. “This must be mom’s secret office! Their must have been a secret door, that we walked through when we weren't looking!” Rebecca responded. “Hello.” said a voice. They quickly turned to find a ghost standing there. “Grandma?” Madeline asked. “Yes little Maddy, it’s me.” Granny told her in a soft voice. “This is the Queens room, where all of the dead Queen’s ghosts are.” She told the girls. “Wait, so our mom should be here too, because she died just the other day.” Madeline said. “The dead, can see what has happened, but cannot speak it. I knew what you seeked, and in the week. Paper and all first out of this room.” Granny said in a rhythmic tone. “Wait, so you can forsee the future, but cannot tell it. You left this room with a paper….” Rebecca thought. “And gave it to us in our sleep!” Madeline finished. “Yes, I cannot tell you any more, for dead cannot. Just know that here.” she pointed to her heart. “I will always be, and once you can seek help through.” Granny responded.
They left the room, new knowledge in their heads of how to find their mother, not dead. They walked down the hall and packed a little bag stuffed full of basic survival materials. They told the guards they were going out to see Hailey, and left. “I feel so bad lying to the guards. They haven’t done anything bad for us!” Rebecca told her twin, as they walked along. “Well, we didn’t completely lie! We are going to Hailey’s house.” “Wait, Why?” Rebecca burst in. “Well, so that we can tell her mother what to do if the guards come looking for us, and Hailey can help us!” Madeline answered. Rebecca sighed knowing that her sister always had some kind of plan, even if she didn’t understand it.
They finally got to Hailey’s house and knocked on the door. The door swung open and Hailey’s mother greeted them. “Good morning your Majesties!” she greeted. “For the millionth time, you don’t need to greet us in such manner! We are not Queen’s yet. Thank you for making us a presence though!” The twins responded like they always did. “You are being too modest! You are the most gracious people to ever set foot on my little f=run down home, so I will greet you that way!” she responded, her point stuck, she wasn’t going to change her mind.
They walked into the room following Hailey’s mother into the kitchen. “I am so very sorry, I did not expect your visit! I don’t have anything ready as of right now, but if you would go talk to Hailey as I prepare some tea, and start on the soup for dinner.” Hailey’s mother told them. “Mrs. Roebuck-” Rebecca started. “Oh, Rebecca! You know to call me Sarah. All of the royals may call me that, for they are royals!” Sarah exclaimed. “Sarah, you are so very kind! We will be down again momentarily when you have finished making you lovely rose tea, my favorite.” Madeline thanked, and with a little nod they walked up the steps to Hailey’s tower room.
Hailey loves to look at the stars, and read. That can explain why her room looks the way it does. Astronomy books are strewn across the floor, and the entire room is light by the large submarine circle shaped window, that shows the entire sky. A large telescope is sitting in the middle of the room with a bed with star sheet in the back corner. On top of this starry bed is Hailey, with a book clutched in her hand, not even looking up. “Hello, Hailey!” Rebecca said into the silence. Hailey looked up from her book, just slightly before setting it down. “Hi! What are you two doing here?” Hailey asked. “Well, as you heard our mother died. We have proof though that she didn’t! So we wanted to know if you wanted to come along on our quest to find the queen!” Madeline explained. “I would love to! Anything for the royal family or the queen!” Hailey jump up and down excited to get started. Rebecca fished the papers out of her bag. “These are the only clue we have!” Madeline said showing the papers to Hailey. “So we have to walk in those directions, in that order to find the next clue? It must be like a treasure hunt, and the treasure is your mom! I wonder though who took her!” Hailey wondered. “I never thought of that! Did you, Becca? Who took Mother?” Madeline asked. “Well, you know those people who kept coming to try and buy our castle, even though it wasn’t for sale… “ Rebecca started. “Wait! The guards probably let them in, because they had come so many times, and it was the wedding. Then they went to the Queen’s room, which wasn’t odd because they always did. Then they got mom, and tricked the guards into thinking someone had taken the body, and buried her!” Rebecca thought. “Well, that must mean one of the guards is on the side of those people wanting to buy the castle!” Hailey exclaimed.
“Tea is ready!” Sarah called from the bottom of the stairs. “Coming mother!” Hailey called. They all rushed down the stairs to the waiting Sarah. The table had little tea cups at each seat, with a tiny appetizer plate, and a large teapot in the center. The table cloth was a beautiful deep red, like a scarlet color. “Thank you for fixing it all so nice, Mrs. Roe- Sarah!” Rebecca exclaimed. They all sat down at one of the seats, the chair laid with fine leather. “I wish I could do more!” Sarah responded. They all sat down quietly and pour tea carefully into their cups of beautiful white china. “As you know our mother the Queen was said that she had died, right before the wedding.” Madeline started. “Yes, such a tragedy, how anyone could murder such a person.” Sarah responded tears glistening in her eyes. “However, we have evidence that sh eid not dead, it was only a fake. We were wondering if you would be kind enough to let us follow the clues we were given, and try to find my mother.” Rebecca continued. “With Hailey.” Madeline added. Sarah sighed, she would do anything for the Queen “If it is safe, I will keep my word, anything for the royals.” She agreed. “And we need you to cover where we are if guards come looking, if you would tell them since they are royals, keep in mind, one of them could have been involved in the hiding and almost killing of the Queen.” Madeline explained. “And since you are going to do so much for us, we must give you something in return. When all is done, you will be the Princess first Farmer.” Rebecca added. Sarah’s eyes light up.
In the town of Gulider the Princesses first Farmer was the most honored job, not of the royal family. They would live right by the castle with the riches of their choosing, growing crops that would go directly to the castle kitchens.
“I would love to!” Sarah said with glee. “Right, now for our little appetizer! I have made a green brussel sprout stuffed lettuce, with tomatoes and some bell peppers. She went to the oven and grabbed a pan. She put another pan in and plated the appetizers on our little plates. “Well, what are your clues? Maybe I can help you figure some of the clues out!” Sarah said eager to help out. “Well, right now we know all there is to know, but maybe we could communicate during the trip and you could help. “Oh.” Sarah said and her face fell. Then it brightened up again and she hurriedly left the room to get something.
“What do you think she is getting?” Madeline asked. “Probably one of her old inventions!” Hailey responded. Right then Sarah walked back into the room carrying a large device. “It’s a pelepone!” Sarah said eagerly. ‘It is one of my fathers old inventions, that he kept. It says that you can press a button and the other person can hear what you say athrought it!” Sarah explained. “Well, let's test it! You and hailey can go into your room with it, and we can go into the kitchen and try it out. They walk in opposite directions with the pelepone, and Sarah was the first to talk. “Does it work?” She asked. The twins leaped back in surprise they could hear what Sarah was saying. “It works!” Rebecca said into it. Sarah and Hailey smiled. It was the first time one of Sarah’s fathers work actually worked. They walked back into the kitchen still smiling. “It worked!” Both of the princesses exclaimed at the same time.
They all leaped in joy, before getting back to seriousness. “Alright! So since it works, I can contact you at any time during the trip!” Sarah said. “Yes” Everyone answered. “Well, we need to get to packing! We have to leave before the guards come.” Hailey exclaimed. They scurried off, trying to find a bit of this and that to pack. They ended up packing this:
Two pairs of clothes each
A bow and quiver with 20 arrows
A few berries and fruit
Matches
A pelepone
Blankets
They put it all in their little bag, and left the little house on their way. “So the clue says to go east 100 meters.” Madeline commented. “East would be toward Aldian, 100 meters though. How are we going to count?” Rebecca asked. Right as they heard shouting in the distance. “Why, you have lost the princesses! That is something no one can do. That you should be given jail for!” The guard shouted. “Well, what about the queen? Who was given jail for killing her?” Said the voice of.. Sarah. “Oh, no they have caught Sarah in the middle of this!” Rebecca worriedly pointed out.
“Well, we should keep going so they don’t find us!” Hailey said. They all ran toward Aldian. “100, meters east… Would be here.” Hailey suddenly stopped. “Where there?” Madeline asked. “I can count perfectly distance and direction, yes we are here!” Hailey responded. “Now 200 meters west!” Rebecca said, as they walked back west. After walking for a bit Hailey stopped “We are there!” Hailey said. The two princesses turned around confused, they had never passed their town. “I don’t know, maybe it is some kind of magic that makes this path lead to somewhere other than what you expect!” Rebecca explained. “Let's just keep going and see what happens.” Madeline responded. They walked off in the north direction towards the next point.
“I’m really tired.” Hailey groaned, when they were halfway to their ;northernmost point. “Maybe we should rest for the night.” Rebecca responded. “ONe of us needs to be on guard at all times though. IF we are in a magical world like Becca said, than their might be some terrible creatures out there.” Madeline sagreed. They set up their tent, and blankets before climbing in. “”Wow, it's getting quite chilly!” Rebecca shivered. They used their matches and made a little fire to keep them warm. THey put on their coats, and ate a bit of berries. “Tomorrow we should hunt for food. I think these berries will not be enough for the three of us over the course of this trip.” Madeline told them. “I’ll have first watch.” Rebecca told everyone. “You can wake me up when you get tired!” Madeline responded, before falling asleep. Hailey immediately did the same.
Rebecca sat fiddling with a little stick, gazing out into the open prairie. She saw a bit of white dust in the distance. The dust got closer, and a shape started to appear. “Who are you?” Rebecca whispered. “I am the Unicorn.” The dust whispered back in a flowy voice. “You can talk?” Rebecca responded surprised. “Yes, you probably don’t know, but you are the gatekeeper. The first one since Queen Lilac.” The unicorn responded. “This means what?” Rebecca asked. “It means you are the key to the world. You are the simple binding that keeps the moon orbiting, and the Space in line.” The unicorn explained. “Wait, you said space like it was another world, is it?” “It is, it is the world that you are in now, you are in the space that is not earth. This is why you could not find your hometown as you were searching.
