Following? Followers?

On someone's page, when it says “Following” and “Followers” I don't get it. They can both mean the same thing! Or am I just dum?

Following is who the user is following (eg. I follow griffpatch)
Followers are people who have followed you (eg. I am one of griffpatchers followers)

They mean “for example”. Like they said, following are the people who you clicked “follow” for and followers are the people who are following you (clicked “follow” for your account)
