Can you take a screenshot of the debug window? That would really help us solve the problem.

Scratch doesn't use 3D, so that wouldn't be a problem. I also don't think it has to do with Windows 7, as it's not that old. As a side note, try using an older version of 1.4. Switching to 2.0 might be inevitable until the 3.0 offline editor comes out. I don't think Scratch is going to update 1.4 anymore.

The older 1.x versions aren't really available anymore, and i don't really think it would help the issue.

I can't read the debug screen. Try uploading the image to one of the whitelisted image hosts or the Scratch Wiki and posting it here. Don't use tinypic unless you block ads.

Honestly, I haven't the slightest idea what's going on here. I'm sure, however, that there's someone here who is good enough with Squeak to know what's happening. ST, can you help out?

It might help to know a little more about this copy of Scratch. At the top we see this fragment: “Home-PC\Desktop\Scratch.image”. That's not what we see using a standard Scratch 1.4 installation. Is this a modified copy of Scratch 1.4? Can you tell us where that Scratch.image file came from? If this is a standard install then having that image file on your desktop still seems odd. Also, the original problem was with trying to “go to the sample select screen”. If the image file is on the desktop did all of the other files that come with Scratch get copied to the desktop?

1. yes, I got it from the official scratch offline download site and 2. no, only the image file got onto the desktop, I'll move the files onto the desktop and try to see if it works or not

That's not normal. Unless you had a reason to move the image file I think it would be best to put it, and any other files from the Scratch 1.4 installation back into the directory (directories) where they came from or else just do a clean re-install of Scratch 1.4.

the reason I moved it was to have an easy way to get to scratch, should I make a shortcut when I install it?

that's the option that I clicked back when I ran the install. I have a Scratch cat icon on my desktop that starts up Scratch 1.4.

I'd say switch to 2.0.
