I'm working on this game, and at about the point where I equip the double eggman drill, all project functions with clones stop creating the clones. Why would this be?

Usual reason is not taking account of how many clones are being created. If you're using a broadcast or backdrop change or keypress or whatever to trigger clones being created then any existing clones will also respond and create clones as well. You quickly hit the max 301 clones per project.

The most likely reason this is happening to you is you are hitting the max clone limit which is 301. You should delete clones in a second or two after they are created therefore, it will seem to make clones forever.

Take sprite2 for example (haven't checked whether other sprites are cloned).
When you press ‘s’ 5 clones are created. Press ‘s’ again and each of those (and the sprite) create another 5 clones each so you have 5 clones, then 35. Press ‘s’ for the third time and you have 35 + (5 x 36) = 215 clones.

Take sprite2 for example (haven't checked whether other sprites are cloned).Oh sorry that was just because I hadn't clicked clean up. I had copied the “S pressed” script from another sprite, and it was covering the block that actually creates the clones, so I don't think that's the reason.

Nevertheless there is probably something like that going on.Take sprite2 for example (haven't checked whether other sprites are cloned).Oh sorry that was just because I hadn't clicked clean up. To test where it happens create a global list and clear it when the project starts. Now in each sprite that gets cloned get it to add its name to the list - eg sprite2 adds ‘sprite2’ for each clone that gets created. Chances are at least one sprite will appear in the list more than you expect.
