i know this has been said before but we are really gonna need a toggle so we can switch between 2.0 and 3.0 block styles.

Sorry for the not replying, but I agree with changing the size to big on mobile and normal on PC/laptop.

CRITICISM TIME:
I miss when Scratch was for everyone. Scratch 3 seems like it's moving the target audience to toddlers. They made the blocks annoyingly flat and vibrant. They hide complex features like pen and custom blocks. They make costume creation worse then it has ever been. I don't get it. ST seem to refuse to add a thin blocks mode, and only made the blocks huge just because a few people that use scratch on tablet may need them that way. Scratch's direction with Scratch 3 looks awful in my opinion.
Honest criticism that hasn't been dumbed down as not to offend anybody. Please fix this ST.

Then, what does this mean? You never mentioned it was optional.
Make an option called “computer/tablet (small style)” and “smartphone (big style)”.

I definitely agree!!!
I make quite complex projects and when you open them in Scratch 3.0 preview they look so much more confusing than before! I hope that they will change it if this gets enough posts

I agree that the blocks are too big but maybe not the same style as Scratch 2.0… Just the same size. The modern style of 3.0's blocks is much better but the block size is NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!

add [smaller blocks] to [Scratch 3.0 v]

I wholeheartedly agree. When Scratch 3.0 comes out, I might just stick to the Discussion Forums, the only part of Scratch that won't be renovated into the hunting ground of toddlers, a demographic who most likely won't know anything about Scratch in the first place. Let the Dora & Diego projects begin. CRITICISM TIME:

oh well, at least we are moving away from deprecated technologies which have many security exploits waiting to be discovered

I got bored and made a mockup of how the button could look:

it would change depending on whether the blocks are currently big or small.

Also, toddlers can easily program with the normal 2.0 blocks without any problems. My cousin is 6 and can program without any problems.I wholeheartedly agree. According to the Scratch Team (who tune out criticism when it's convenient,) every toddler has a serious case of fat finger.

Come to think of it, shouldn't we just be able to zoom out and make the blocks smaller? I'm going to see if that's in the preview

Normal

Zoomed out once
That works for me
Though if I'm going to be honest, it's really not that much bigger than what we have now. I don't get why people are so against Scratch 3.0. It will take a lot of getting used to, yes, but then it will feel normal.
Did users feel like this with the transfer to the 2.0 editor?

The second one is harder to read, and it's even worse when you're using a language with more detailed characters like Chinese. Here's the difference:
Normal
Zoomed out once
That works for me
The problem is not so much the size, but the fact that most of it is just padding (the ST seems to love padding for some reason, see also the top bar where discuss was removed because the padding took up so much space). If they had kept the blocks the same as the are now and changed the default zoom level to be a couple of levels higher, this wouldn't be a huge problem. If they had made the zoom level respond to the device people are using, or made it a profile setting, it wouldn't be a problem at all.

I totally agree. Scratch 3.0 doesn't have to look like this. These blocks are very difficult to use, and most people already think Scratch is made just for children to “play” with code - but you can make complex projects with it and it's a great way to code for people of every age! This new design with its huge blocks looks like it is really made for children only. And this isn't necessary. It's true that you need bigger blocks for mobile devices, but we don't need such big blocks for PCs and Notebooks.
