Snap! teacher discussion
is a visual programming language inspired by Scratch but extended with capabilities designed to help teach computer science, including first class procedures and first class lists. This forum topic is for discussion of teaching with Snap!.
The Beauty and Joy of Computing is an introductory computer science curriculum, one of the pilots for the coming AP CS:Principles exam, using Snap!.
Snap! is developed by Jens Mönig with help from Brian Harvey and an ever-expanding team of Scratchers. It is presented by the University of California with support from the National Science Foundation and the MioSoft Corporation.

BJC Teacher Preparation Workshops available summer 2013:
BJC is a curriculum for introducing computer science to high school students as well as to non-CS-major college students. We offer a six-week workshop, with the first and last weeks face-to-face and the four middle weeks online with one computer-mediated discussion afternoon per week.
Anyone may participate in these workshops, but travel funds are available for US high school teachers who bring a letter from their principal guaranteeing that the BJC course will be taught in the 2013-14 or the 2014-15 school year. These teachers will get a $500 stipend for each face-to-face week plus documented travel expenses up to $500 per week. Additional stipends will be provided when the participants actually teach the course and participate in our research about its effectiveness.
Week 1 face-to-face meetings: June 17-21 in Raleigh, NC, or June 24-28 in Berkeley, CA.
Week 6 face-to-face meetings: July 29-Aug 2 in Raleigh, or Aug 5-9 in Berkeley. (You can attend the two weeks in different cities if that fits your schedule better.)
See http://bjc.berkeley.edu for information about the course. To sign up for a summer workshop, go to http://bit.ly/BJC2013.

I doubt bh even follows this thread… better ask on the main discussion thread.
We need a neat nickname for the “Snap! team discussion thread”. How about “s!tdt”?

We need a neat nickname for the “Snap! team discussion thread”. How about “s!tdt”?Or "Snap! TDT“ (emphasis optional).
EDIT: Actually, either of those could also stand for ”Snap! teacher discussion thread“ (I think the ”thread" is implicit in the name of this topic)

Attn people coming to the Scratch conference:
There will be an all-day workshop on the Beauty and Joy of Computing curriculum (an implementation of CS:Principles using Snap!) at MIT just before the conference:
Wednesday, August 06, 2014, 9AM – 5PM, room E62-550 (map).
The Scratch conference starts with dinner the same evening.
The workshop is free, but you must pre-register here. (Never mind all the questions about stipends, which relate to our six-week BJC workshops.)
