Eragon: The Series Discussion

Kvetha Fricaya, and thanks for being a part of Eragon: The Series!

Our goal is to animate the first book of the Inheritance cycle in its entirety, complete with voice acting, and 80% original soundtrack!

We're getting ready to start work on Episode One: The Stone, which will cover the prologue and chapters 1-3 in Eragon.

VOICE ACTORS: If you are a Voice Actor, please record ALL of your character's lines from the Prologue and Chapters One through Three, or Discovery through Dragon Tales. If you don't own a copy of Eragon, you can find your script for chapters 1-3, here. It has been abbreviated slightly. here, and the Prologue here. It would be appreciated if I could have your lines by April 15th. If you would like to audition, please click here.

ANIMATORS: If you are an animator, we need to start animating the intro sequence to the series. I have some choreography ideas, but I am willing to change stuff up. To hear the series theme, click Here. What I think we should do is have it start w/ Eragon riding Saphira towards the camera, then they slow down, their voice actor's names appear to the right, wait a second, then they speed back up. Go down to the ground, and Brom (later Murtagh) is riding a horse very quickly, his voice actor's name appears, flash to Arya in the prison cell and have her look up at the camera w/ a determined expression, voice actor's name appears, Zoom outside of the prison at night, Durza in the foreground with a ball of magic in his hand, Actor's name appears, look up at the sky, Title card appears, wait a second, then cut to black.
We can change any of this, but please tell me what you would like to change!

ARTISTS: you're w/ me and the animators, as well as helping come up w/ character designs.

Thanks so much for being a part of this series. Be sure to click the follow discussion button to receive messages when there is a new post here.

Doesn't Arya have a line in the prologue?

Okay, no, she doesn't. Sorry. :-(

Cool, I'll work on it.

But I've got a suggestion. Some of the lines in Eragon are freaking long. We need to probably set a script that's a set script, based off of the book. It would get fairly boring with all the talking, and be quite laborious for the animators(Lol not really talking is easy but super boring…) so perhaps if we got a specific script for the first little bit, that would be great. Yes, we want to stay by the book, but I would greatly appreciate if we could maybe… you know, make things that would be interesting for a movie. Every small conversation would be… painful, in my opinion. So a quick script. It doesn't have to be detailed, but it can be if we wanted. Do you get what I'm saying?

Also, the swooping animation I did, should I make another for the intro or is the current one alright?

Sounds good, I've got a spare afternoon tomorrow, I can abbreviate the script. The swooping animation is pretty good, maybe make it a bit slower, though.

I like all of these ideas! I also like the intro sequence idea. We will have to add on later, but that won't be for a while.

Okay, so I tried abbreviating the script… It took waaay too much time. If you guys feel like lines need to be abbreviated or shortened, just shorten it while you're recording the line. It's totally up to you guys, but don't chop everything out of a line. :-)

https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/212529337/ Here we go, script time!! I decided to make a script for chapters 1-3, taking out unnecessary bits and shortening incredulously long bits. Hopefully, you are alright with this.

Could I help with animating, or be an animator/artist? I can do dragons but not humans, I can also link my dragon art if you want.

Here's a lineart animation of a dragon opening his/her mouth. https://cubeupload.com/im/Wexh6y.gif

Looks good! So, um, we're working on the intro sequence rn, and the Saphira & Arya bits have been taken, all we need now are the Durza and Brom bits to be claimed. Do you have a preference?

I'd probably fail at drawing a horse, so I'll take Durza! Is there a reference for me to use or shall I make it up?

Not really. I'm kinda thinking a taller male, in a dark robe w/ a cape that's kinda blowing around in the wind. (Context being it's dark, and looking like there's about to be a thunderstorm) I'm thinking we do it w/ the hood off, so he has kinda maroon hair, and red eyes. That's all the reference I got.

Got it! Maybe when he summons (oof i forgot the word, it's been long since i read eragon) the sphere of magic, lightning comes too? The text could then appear under the lightning, give the image some contrast.

Could it be like a dark red cape? Just wondering, I'm just thinking of him with a REALLY dark red cape.
