I use the scratch sprite editor a good bit, and i have found that working with colors like white is kinda hard to do as the checker-board background involves white. i would suggest either slightly tinting it, or making it darker,but instead of it being set like that, There should be a button to switch between the current editor and the darker one
in this image, its pretty hard to see the white box
in this one its way easier

It doesn't need to be that dark, but its the best i could do i the five seconds my brain allowed before shifting its attention to other things

I see the white box in both of them, but in the first one i have to squint. what does the white box do?

Both.

Basically what im trying to suggest is that there are two themes to the scratch editor. a light one, and a dark one. they could be switched out by pressing a button.
