Tips For making a contest on Scratch.

You might have seen people on Scratch making contests and you might have even participated in a few of them. If you want to make a contest of your own in Scratch, here are a few tips that can help you.

1) Make a contest in which all people or specific people can participate in. Give them an easy theme. Eg: ‘My favorite flower’.

2) Give some information about the contest. Give some information about the contest so anyone who wants to participate will know what type of project to make and submit.

3)Invite some people you follow or people following you to be the judges(You also need to be a judge)of the contest. Note that there should be a limited number of judges like 3 or 4 judges.

4) Judge the projects fairly. If one of your close friends on Scratch is also participating and makes a project, give him/her the prize only if you like the project and feel that it's eligible to come first, not because he/she is your close friend.

5)Give prizes to the people who won. Give prizes to the people who won and consolation prizes to the prizes to the people who didn't win. Check some contests which have prizes and get an idea for the prizes in your contest.

6)Mention if you want the participants to remix your contest or make a new project. It's best if you tell people to remix your contest because there won't be so much hassle.

7)Tell people about your contest. There are many ways to let Scratchers know about your contest! Some ways are:
  • Paste the link in your Scratch profile and/or make the contest your featured project! When people check out your profile, they get to know about it and even might wanna participate in it!
  • Ask your followers/whoever you are following to let their followers/whoever they are following know about your contest. You could ask them like this:
“Hi. If it's okay with you, can you please advertise this contest? Thanks!”
But if they have a strict no-advertising policy, then don't ask them to.
  • Ask for your contest to be added in a studio specially made for advertising or a studio specifically made for contests to be advertised.

Good Luck! :)

I've never made a contest on Scratch before, so I think this guide's really nice. Step 3 is pretty cool. I totally agree with step 4 because I have a cousin on Scratch who's also following me. But for number 5, I've been thinking that a good prize might be a follow, but what can be some other prizes that will tempt people? A shoutout?

But for number 5, I've been thinking that a good prize might be a follow, but what can be some other prizes that will tempt people? A shoutout?

Well, most people(including me) make prizes like : 1st prize: 14 follows(in my view, follows depend on the number of judges there are.) 12 loves and 12 faves to each of their projects etc. and then decrease it when it comes to the second and third prize. Other than that, you can make an even more tempting prize that the winner can have a project dedicated to themselves. First, check out his/her profile and check out some projects of theirs. Then you can write some nice things about him/her in the project. For the other people who didn't win, you and the other judges can follow them and you can put some links of their projects on your profile, so whoever checks your profile out, they can check out the projects and maybe, if they like it, they may favourite it or love it or do both. This way, the prizes will be fair and the participants can be happy if they win any one of the prizes. Another way is that you can make a fan club of the person who won. Eg: My friend in real life who is also in scratch, @Breechase, has won, then I would open a new studio and name it, Breechase fan club. For the people who didn't win, they can be the curators of the studio.

Tips For making a contest on Scratch.

I’m not really sure about this. As the AAA (Anti-Advertising Association) says, giving links to other people is also known as advertising. And advertising in other words means spam.

However, it’s also pretty sad to do this. Because you’re not sharing your own creativity, you’re sharing someone else’s. Scratch is not about that. Sure we can remix someone else’s project however we must make our own changes, not use it to get much more fame that your follower might have. And making a contest, let’s say, if you’re getting people to make a flower, and you’d use it: you’re using someone else’s design. You still credit them for using it but for me (in my view), I call it laziness: you’re not really designing your own stuff. Scratch is not about laziness and using someone else’s inspiration to get fame, it’s all about creativity.

Contests for the best game made for summer for example. I know that you know those entries were made by someone else. But prizes like a “follow from me and my test account” for example, just because your prizes are set like that, same with love and fav, did you even see the rest of their projects? No, you’d check them out, then you change your mind, you’d unfollow that person. You’re just giving someone more fame for just the prize. Then you unfame someone because say for example, you think their projects might need improvement or maybe too much bugs or even the designs are horrible.

Your step 3, people will now call it advertising, even if you say it’s inviting. I’m trying to follow the AAA (that includes famous scratchers such as @7Sofa @huntedskelly and @-BoyMcBoy- ) to make sure Scratch stays as a creative place for us to create. However, for contests, it’s also sad, because Scratch is about your own creativity, not others.

In conclusion, I really think people should stop making contests, even if they’re famous, including the AAA. Contests are letting you use someone else’s creativity, increase advertising issues that might get you reported (because you’re inviting someone to your contests) and you’re giving someone fame when you haven’t even checked out the rest of their projects yet, and maybe you might change your mind because now you think that their projects need huge improvements. I hope you really understand.

This is in my personal view, but if everyone does agree I would make an informative project into why people should stop making contests.

Keep scratching!
