Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a JRPG developed by Monolith Soft and published by Nintendo. The game was released worldwide on December 1st, 2017. Despite being a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 does not use the same world or characters as the first game. Instead, it was given the name only due to similarity in gameplay and also an overlapping story arc. However, if you're new to the series, it's easy to jump in and get a grasp on everything without worry; you might just miss out on a couple references.

Discuss Xenoblade Chronicles 2, its story, your favourite characters, and anything else related to the game here.

I must say, the game's better than I thought it was going to be when I got it! I'm addicted to the combat system the game provides (it's actually not all that complicated) and the story's well-written as far as I've gotten so far. Just finished defeating Queen Arachno in Ulraya, so there's still much more to do. The English voice acting is kind of grating, though; but I'm only switching to Japanese after I've seen all the cutscenes with English, because, well, I sort of want to not have to read the subtitles and instead look at the game. Either I keep it English the whole time without subtitles, or I teach myself how to speak Japanese. The former is a much better option

This might just be one of my favourite games ever. A lot of people complained about the grinding, but I actually find grinding fun; then again, I'm one of the few who actually didn't get annoyed at Shiny Hunting in the Pokémon games, so maybe that's just me

Anyway, I look forward to completing the game. I'm definitely going to attempt to 100% finish the game, as it's so far really engaging. I searched up online to see if there's any one-time things, though, and apparently Chapter 9 removes an entire area, so… Yeah, I'll have to do that before starting up Chapter 9! But after that, I'll be good and probably do the Side Quests if I ever need any extra Bonus EXP.

Is this specifically 2? I don't actually have 2, only 1

And all the world over, each nation's the same,
They've simply no notion of playing the game.
They argue with umpires, they cheer when they've won,
And they practice beforehand, which ruins the fun!

Specifically 2, as it has an entirely different story, characters, etc. and if it were for all of Xenoblade Chronicles then it could get messy fast. If people posted on it.

Just got the game today! So far, I really like it.
Though I will say, there are a few things I found kinda weird…
1: You don't auto-attack while moving, making getting to the right position to use arts with bonus effects harder. I think it'd be fine if you always auto-attacked but only did the three-hit combo when you're standing still, so there's still a reason to not be moving all the time.
2: Only 3 arts at a time…
3: Apparently every art is a talent art now, and your actual talent art-ish things are double talent arts (charge with arts instead of auto-attacks).

Other than that, I do like it, but I did find those things kinda weird after playing XC1.

And all the world over, each nation's the same,
They've simply no notion of playing the game.

Oh well, as long as it's still strategic and balanced. I'm a newcomer to the series and found no problems.

It's funny; I saw lots of people say that you shouldn't use this game as your first JRPG, as it's “difficult” and “has bad tutorials”, but I had no problem with it, really. I don't see how people have trouble with the many tutorials it gives you?

Actually I have two new problems.
1: Your movement speed slows to an absolute CRAWL in battle for no conceivable reason.
2: Since arts are based off of how many times you auto-attack, you basically never get to use any arts in normal battles, so don't even try to get off a blade art. I think this could've been fixed if arts charge, or at least blade arts charge persisted between battles, similar to how talent arts persisted in XC1.

Still like the game though.

Possible spoilers for the prologue I guess???
I found it funny how in literally the first hour-ish of gameplay the main character is already dead. :P

Most of the problems I've had are getting fixed as the game goes along: the enemies are getting more health so you can use arts more, and you get skills that let you use arts at the start of the battle. Still don't like the no auto-attack when moving or the battle movement speed, though…

The reason you don't move as fast in battle is because the area where battles take place is generally smaller than the maps you travel in. Imagine in Zelda BOTW if you permanently went the same speed as the motorcycle. It would stop being fun quickly. The only reason you go so fast outside of battle is because the maps are so huge.

It worked fine in XC1, though. It made it so that if you needed to get behind a larger enemy to do Back Slash, for example, it didn't take twenty years to get there.

Edit: For the BOTW example, I'd say more like what if in BOTW whenever you locked onto an enemy you slowed down to half speed?

I don't find the battle speed to be inconvenient at all. The enemies aren't big enough to make maneuvering around them unfair (at least until Mor Ardain) The reason it wouldn't work in BOTW is because the two games have very different combat systems. If the enemies in Xenoblade moved around nearly as much as in BOTW the game would be unplayable.

Eh, I just feel like there wasn't much of a reason since it worked OK in XC1 but maybe I'm just being an idiot. That happens a lot.

Woo, some major spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn't beaten Chapter Eight, hidden in transparent so you don't get mad at me –
The World Tree is the most difficult dungeon ever and is completely impossible there's no way to get through that control room without aggravating every single enemy in the room and once 50 enemies are locked onto Rex and deal 500 damage per hit there's no way you'll survive more than five seconds as you probably won't have even had enough time to even pull out your weapon at that point it sucks and is very annoying and I want to continue the story but can't-
But other than that,
the game has so many plot twists! I was DEFINITELY not expecting Nia to turn out to be a Blade (well, a Flesh Eater) while I was playing at first. It was quite a shock, and to think her healing abilities can even combat Malos is quite interesting. However, I still use her as a Driver as I need her to collect HP Potions everywhere. Also, who'd of thought that Pyra / Mythra would have ANOTHER form?? It's so overpowered, too; all her specials turn into AOE moves, and completely obliterate all enemies in a group. Repeatedly dealing 2,000 damage to 50 enemies at the same time to knock all of them down to half health only to then be able to choose any Special Combo you want to do is RIDICULOUS; but also somewhat necessary when you're fighting fifty level 64 enemies at once :/
It's a good game. But, I really hope that Jin ends up changing his outlook on the world, and joins the main characters as he did partway through Chapter Eight; if he doesn't, well then, that kind of makes that “foreshadowing” completely worthless.
