Unusual Haunted Scrap Metal
Cool! An unusual what? A hat, miscelanious item, or a weapon?
Unusual Haunted Scrap Metal
It was a joke, since unusual cosmetics are hard to find and the Unusual HHHH or the Unusual Haunted Scrap don't need as nearly as much effort to get.
The Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker takes allot of effort to get.
It does, but it's not nearly as hard to get as an unusual hat. The cheapest ones cost around $30, and the more expensive ones cost around $1000. The only way to get them without trading with other players is using keys to unbox crates. Keys cost $2.50, and the chance of finding an unusual in the crate is around 0.66%. In other words, you need to invest a lot of money into the game to get an unusual hat.

To get it, first you must defeat the Horseless Headless Horsemann with a melee weapon on the map cp_mannmanor or some trading maps like trade_minecraft_b42. You will get a Haunted Scrap Metal. Then you must get 2 refined metal by crafting weapons together to make metal. (you need 36 weapons). If you craft all this and a Scottsman's Skullcutter together, you'll get the Headtaker.

People that are growing impatient for Half-Life 3 aren't vary fond of him.

Aww, most of that is just joking around with GabeN. He knows we love him even if he can't count to three.

Bump.

Downloaded it today. (Hey, it was free )
I'm so so terrible at it, especially because I can't dicern the teams with such a low graphics quality XD and it's my first fps

Is there a Scratch server or something? I would start one up, but my computer can't handle a 1-player server.

I tried to start a Scratch server a while back, but I didn't for two reasons:
1) It's more technicaly demanding than, for example, a Minecraft server.
2) Most maps aren't suited for small amounts of people, and since there's not many TF2 scratchers it would be a bit empty at times.
If this is your first fps, then apparently the guy I have tagged as you on Steam isn't really you. Derp.

I might put up a server that could potentially do double duty between my clan and Scratch. I'm not our clan “server guy” but either I can bug him enough or I can see about just making my own. Unfortunately my net hasn't been very reliable, so it might not be the best idea for me to host it.

Also scratchisthebest, try shooting at the people who are shooting you.
Jokes aside, are you TF2 premium? (Can get that for a $0.50 minimum purchase in the Mann Co. Store and it unlocks the world of trading and hats, but I personally recommend $2.50 for a key then selling it for metal/items) If you do that and grab a key you can trade for hats, or most every weapon in the game. If not, read up on the wiki and put together some weapons that you'd like and I can gift some to you. Otherwise if you tell me a bit about what classes you like to play I might be able to give recommendations too.

You can get a upgrade-to-premium gift. I traded for one from a friend of mine who was willing to spare the cash for me.

@the topic of recommendations, id suggest you also tell us your play style as well.

I'm about a quarter of the way through the tutorial right now, probably shouldn't have posted so early :3 Also, I have not spent any money, because I don't have any. So far I'm partial to the soldier (because that's the one I've played the most )

What I can gather so far: You can pick up stuff in-game, and trade it with other people through the store thing (or buy it with $$$). This is a big part of the game. (why are scrap metal and keys so important?)

But they keep respawningggg~ last point in dustbowl is literally *right next* to red's spawn point. I played (poorly) for ten minutes straight and gave up on it. KOTH mode was fun though ^^

There's no problem with that, we're here to help!

You will get a certain number of drops, usually weapons or crates, each week. I don't remember the limit but I think it's somewhere around 8. This resets every Wednesday/Thursday. If you have purchased anything on the Mann Co. Store, you unlock “premium” status in the game. This can be anything, from a $0.50 to a $99.99 “Something Special for Someone Special.” This (I believe) increases your chances of receiving cosmetics (hats, paints, and miscs) in drops, and allows you to trade with people.

Metal and keys are only as important as you let them be. They are used to buy weapons, hats, tools, and miscs from other players. You can craft two weapons (from the same class) into a scrap metal, three scrap into a reclaimed metal, and three rec into one refined metal. Currently the price of keys is 7.44 ref, or 7 ref 1 rec 1 scrap. I personally like to treat the “Mannconomy” as a separate metagame. If you don't really have any interest in strange weapons (weapons that track your number of kills with that weapon), killstreak weapons (which track your kills during that life, and may add special cosmetic effects), or cosmetic items (the world of hats and other items that only offer appearance), then you could certainly go without buying anything. Note that these are really popular in the game among more “serious” players but they are only really vanity items. They do nothing to enhance your weapons' abilities. I have a Strange Degreaser (a type of flamethrower for Pyro) with strange parts that are, combined, worth nearly five keys, or (assuming Mann Co. Store prices) $12.50. I got there through trading (I'm not spending my life's savings on TF2) but it functions identically to the normal degreaser that is only worth half a scrap.

I dislike the opinion held by many that people who take part in the economy heavily are “losing sight of the real purpose of the game” because I try to treat them like two separate things. One is a hat simulator, and one is an FPS. On the other hand, I can completely respect someone not wanting to involve themselves in the economy. It's not for everyone and it's not necessary. If you have a few cents to spare though, I do recommend at least buying something cheap from the store. With sites like scrap.tf or even just other players (some will charge you 1 scrap, others will not take a fee), you can trade for any weapon you want 1:1.

IMO Dustbowl is one of the more poorly designed maps in the game. It was one of the first maps, and while it was fine when the game came out, it's changed a lot with unlockable weapons and such. The BLU team generally has the advantage with shorter respawn times, but if the RED team turtles on the last point with engineers, it can be hard to win (unless you have a half-decent Medic on your team.) I'd recomend playing some of the other Attack/Defense maps: cp_gorge is pretty straightforward, and cp_steel is really unique but is a bit of a maze to get through. Payload is pretty fun as well: it's sort of like Attack/Defense but instead of capping points, you push a cart with a bomb in it to the RED team's base.

By the way, if you want to get a premium account all you have to do is buy a Giftapult for 10 cents from the store. If you have a couple cards from other games just sell one or two and you have premium. You'll get more backpack space, access to trading, and a chance at finding hats. Don't worry about keys and metal and all that yet: just keep it in mind when you want to get the most glorious hat, trading is the way to do that. (Metal and keys are basically the unoffical currency in the game.)

Don't worry if your not very good at the start you'll be really good in a couple of months, anyway don't servers cost money if you make one?
